Devils9789 10-29-2007, 05:23 PM Im confused as to how last season, colin white was the scapegoat to almost all of our complaints last season, but now we are dying to have him back.:sarcasm:
comments as to explain this phenomena?
DANCIN'WITHJANSSEN 10-29-2007, 05:27 PM Just because he is big and slow alot of people get on him. I love him, and he is a wonderful leader. I think both Langenbrunner and White would make better captains than anyone currently suiting up for the Devils.

White isn't slow. For his size, he's quite mobile.
The truth is that he's a defensive defenseman and people have a hard time seeing his value when he's on the ice. I really have to say that the amount of crap White has gotten over the past couple years has been ridiculous.
bense27 10-29-2007, 05:49 PM once he comes back people will go right back to complaining. and oduya will become god.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA You mean Johnny Oturnover?
JerryGigantic 10-29-2007, 05:54 PM HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA You mean Johnny Oturnover?
No, it's Johnny OIdroppedmystick.
BLONG7 10-29-2007, 05:56 PM Is his eye injury serious? Haven't heard much about him?
JRZ DVLS 10-29-2007, 05:58 PM Sorry Just posted this in the Matvichuk thread, but should have been here
As for White, I would never say he is the greatest, nor was I one who said to get rid of him, he has his moments both good and bad, but WE ALL know he is a top 4 D man that is better than the bunch of 5/6/7 men we have now.
JerryGigantic 10-29-2007, 05:58 PM Is his eye injury serious? Haven't heard much about him?
Very freakin serious, potentially career threatening. I put it at 50/50 he plays again this season, and certainly not for several months.

Same people who wanted to trade Brodeur at the start of the year last season, trade Madden in the offseason this year, blame Sutter now....
Same **** different flavor. Get used to it.
MakoSlade 10-29-2007, 06:25 PM White is awesome and we desperately need him back. The "greatest hits" highlight reel they showed at The Rock on Saturday night was at least a third White hits - we need that type of play back!!!
TheDevilMadeMe 10-29-2007, 06:30 PM People got on White because they were spoiled by Scott Stevens. When Stevens retired, White basically took over his role as the top physical dman on the team. And White, no disrespect to him, obviously can't hold Stevens' jock.
Yet White, despite his flaws, really was the best physical dman left on the team by a longshot. Now that everyone sees how much worse the D is without White, they can't wait to have him back.

He definitely isn't Stevens, but every team in the league (with the exception of a select few) would like Colin White on their team. It doesn't mean he's the best, but he is an above average defensive Dman.
None Shall Pass 10-29-2007, 10:55 PM No, it's Johnny OIdroppedmystick.
OT: I have quoted that in my signature. I laughed so hard:handclap:

Bingo. It's tough for many people to be able to quantify what a guy like White brings to the team, much less the D corps. It's the things that can't be measured statistically that White brings to the table, as evident in what has transpired since he has been out.
But with that "defensive-defenseman" labeling comes a lot of blame when things don't go well defensively. That's understandable. But he's hardly the "problem" when things aren't working on the back end IMO for you guys.
frankiedue 10-29-2007, 11:14 PM I went to NJIT and there was this thing called "NJIT Goggles" The guy to girl ratio there was 80%-20%. What happened was that average girls looked hot and below average girls looked hot. There wasn't a single available girl on campus, unless they was something seriously wrong with them.
On to Colin White. Now that the Devils have one of the worst defenses in NHL, of course Colin White is going to look like that hot girl who is really just average. Truth of the matter is that he is a very solid defender (maybe not worth 3 million) and that is something we could really use right now because our defense flat out blows.
TB Sheets 10-29-2007, 11:25 PM White is Daneyko, Jr. If you liked Dano's game, heart and soul you should love Colin White.
I Hate Tie DOMI 10-29-2007, 11:30 PM I don't like him and never will.

Because the phenomena didnt exist? I have no idea what you're talking about.

This is perhaps the worst thing I have ever heard in my entire life. It really puts things that seem to "matter" into perspective. Where I went to school in Florida, 20 year old girls roamed the campus in bikinis like guys roam Wall Street in suits.
LOU4PREZIN08 10-30-2007, 01:01 AM White was underrated, and may still be when he comes back.
It seems like a lot of Devils fans didn't appreciate what he brings to the ice, and called for him to be traded to dump his salary.
Currently, the Devils' defense is HORRIBLE, and some of those White-haters are starting to miss his presence. Some fans can't seem to forget his first few years on the team, when he would make simple plays look hard, and take some bonehead penalties. He has grown into a much better, more focused defender.
Is he a $3 million D-man, maybe not, but he is/was the best D-man on the roster.
I miss him on the ice, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery and can help this team get back on track.
Trade#5 10-30-2007, 01:02 AM I don't like him and never will.
+1
Collin White who? it's time to move on.

yeah, not really pal.
Clarkson Falls Down 10-30-2007, 01:11 AM White is Daneyko, Jr. If you liked Dano's game, heart and soul you should love Colin White.
Lets take it alittle easy pal. He's not near Dano when it comes to the heart and soul that he gave to the Devils.
Jason MacIsaac 10-30-2007, 01:58 AM Lets take it alittle easy pal. He's not near Dano when it comes to the heart and soul that he gave to the Devils.
Is that even comparable?
MadDevil 10-30-2007, 02:05 AM White has taken **** from some fans ever since he came into the league, and when he was given a $3 million a year contract it just made him a bigger target. Now that he's injured, I think some realize his importance a bit more than they used to.

Did you see Daneyko in his early years? White's game is close to a clone of Daneyko's game at the same age. We used to call Daneyko "Good o' rap-it-around-the-boards Daneyko" since that defensive move was 50% of his repetoire. The other 50% was hitting and heart-and-soul. When Scott Stevens came on board, his game changed and he developed a lot more subtle defensive moves. Frankly, I think White's better than Daneyko was at the same age - probably a result of having Stevens around earlier in his career.

I agree 100% with both of your post and White is severely underrated
sly217 10-30-2007, 01:40 PM It's been more than a month since defenceman Colin White was hit in the right eye with a deflected puck, but he still isn't certain he will play hockey again. His vision has slowly improved, but White said Saturday he doesn't know if it is good enough to play in the NHL unless it gets even better. - Newark Star-Ledger
bense27 10-30-2007, 03:43 PM No, it's Johnny OIdroppedmystick.
no, just straight up Johnny Odouchebag.
BenedictGomez 10-30-2007, 07:27 PM On a related note, I wonder how Bergfors is doing? It can be a big blow to the mental state when something like this happens. They say it took Marian Hossa a while to get over the Berard incident.
LOU4PREZIN08 10-31-2007, 12:44 AM yeah, not really pal.
I said SOME, not all, buddy.
I know you're not gonna change your views on Colin, "Trade #5", but a few of my White-hating friends are starting to miss him.

Agreed. :handclap:
The salary does create some added expectations, and I think that Lou knew what he was paying for when they offered the deal in the first place. I can only hope that some more fans start to appreciate what he brings to the team, if and when he rejoins the Devils.

Eye injury aside, I am sick to death of all the palm wringing over White's salary. If he was on the open market this past off season, he'd have gotten $4mil, easy.
If he can play again, the contract will look better and better every year, as the salary cap goes up and up and up.
