In just 2 sleeps..... Former Captain vs Ducks!

I am really looking forward to this one! I wonder what the reaction from our Ducks will be? I wonder if players like Rooch and Vishnevski dislike him now (Understandable how he can go from fan favourite to hated by the fans, people who don't know him personally, but it should be interesting to see if 9 year friendships are no more).

I'm tipping a 4-1 Avs win (only because the Ducks always lose when I predict a Duck win)

Game on!

Make it 3-0 now because it's another Avs PP.

Our forecheck has been pretty good so far and were picking up the hitting which is never a bad thing. Cant blame Giguere for the first goal, defense had a massive brain fart and I dont care who you are you arent going to stop Hejduk, Tanguay, and Forsberg if theyre allowed to make passes back and forth. Blake is having a monster season this year and the d was too focused on stopping the forwards that they all lined up in front of Giguere to let Blake shoot through. I like Vish cant see Giguere being blamed for the 2 goals when he really had no chance. He hasnt made big saves this season like he was in the playoffs but tonights not his fault. I wish we could finish. I mean we werent finishing when we had like 20 shots and barely working, now were working hard and getting a ton of shots and still cant find the back of the net. Its really getting frustrating.

Edit: Hey post 2000 for me.

Getting shots really isn't an effective forecheck. There was really only one sequence where we had traffic in front on a dangerous shot.

Otherwise our chances are only potentials, because we don't have anyone in front to poke at a rebound. Congratulations on 2,000. It's all downhill from there!

Well this game is pretty much over. If we somehow score 4 goals I'll be shocked. I didn say a lot of shots was a great forecheck. The Ducks were cycling pretty good and keeping the puck down low near the end of that period. Thanks, I'll be sure to keep that in mind as it happens.

Blake took a huge run at Lupul there. I'd like to see us hurt a few of their players.

01-13-2004, 06:37 PM
Pretty much everything in other words :D

190Octane
01-13-2004, 06:41 PM
No, but Fedorov's skill is leaps and bounds above anyone else on this team, no one knows what the hell he's going to do most of the time and when they figure it out, they can't bury his passes... same thing with Prospal.

Sykora can't finish for s---, Rooch is playing like a puss, McDonald hustles but the skill level isn't there, Niedermayer hasn't been the same since the groin injury, Chistov drives to the net once a game and that's it, our defense has no offensive talent without Ozolinsh in the lineup and Giguere isn't playing like God anymore.

It's everyone's fault, but if we had a big goal scorer who could finish on the Fedorov/Prospal line, maybe we'd do better. Leclerc would look nice on that line.

Hockeyfan02
01-13-2004, 06:42 PM

I also wonder if everyone was healthy for the entire season what this team would be like. Not sure how much better but if Carney, Nieds, and Ozo had been healthy all year we would be near a playoff spot IMO. Leclerec wouldnt be a bad addition to this team either.

Spankatola Jamnuts

No, but Fedorov's skill is leaps and bounds above anyone else on this team

Funny, that's the same rationale I use for blaming him. He got his cash, his precious ice time, his butt-*****ety respect, and he's a flop. One of the biggest UFA flops ever IMO. If you have to view his supposed amazing talent level as a hindrance in order to exonerate him, maybe you should re-examine your logic.

EDIT: sorry Vish, I'm picking fights because I'm obviously very frustrated and disappointed. I'd edit out what I said but I want to keep the phrase "butt-*****ety respect".

- Hayward.

Shooting doesn't mean ***** all if you're not willing to follow your shots to the net. You can cycle the puck for 60 minutes and never score. That's not playing well. Playing well is being more dangerous to the bad guys than you are to yourself, which we only were in the 3rd period. They haven't learned that and at game 43 or 44 or whatever this is, they're not going to.

eh...and this season is only going to get worse...we simply can't score goals...

Thinking of the future of this team keeps me from going crazy.
So I'm thinking long term Lupul and Kunitz hopefully will score goals with Chistov and Perry as playmakers...Getzlaf and maybe Shane Hynes as our power forwards...Brent, Martensson and Holmqvist will be good third liners...Severson and Davis pushing people around on the fourth line...

I think were headed towards rebuilding yet we are stuck with Federov and Prospal's contracts... :dunno:

Im glad Johnson and Bylsma are gone...Krog next?

Who to trade at deadline? UFAs are Simpson and Carney...Simpson is gone for sure...best we can hope is maybe a 5th round pick(or worse) from a playoff team who wants a 7th defensmen just in case...

Carney could be the missing piece for a stanley cup contender...how about St. Louis...with Macinnis and Jackman out for the year, Carney would be a good D partner for Pronger during there playoff run...He would be such a valuable player for a playoff team that I'm hoping we could get a 1st rounder and/or high level prospect...

Carney is a huge part of our team but keep in mind that we most likely are going to lose him for nothing.

haha...Goodness that was funny.
---------------

Prospal sucked tonight. He turned the puck over everytime he had it but once.

Vish made a mistake early for the Fors. goal, but I still think he was the best dman tonight.

Rucchin needs to rest. He is useless.

Atleast Neids took a dive to get a penalty. (maybe they're learning)
------------------

I also have a feeling that Comrie would've done jack shti for the Ducks the way they're playing. It's impossible to win when the NHL doesn't want you to. The reffing has screwed them worse than any opposing goaltender. I just cannot understand why they lose everygame they play. (and tie here and there)

You can say what you want about the Ducks' needs, but what the Ducks really need is everyone to play what they're capable of. Rucchin, Carney, Havelid, and Chistov are really playing WAY below their abilities. Maybe they all suck and just played out of their mind last year... Man I am pissed!!!

I don't think the contracts of Prospal and Fedorov are that bad. After the bonus paid to Prospal his is only 2.5mm per season and that's good for a 50-70 point guy.

As for Fedorov I fully expect him to opt out at his first chance and if he does Murray will be a genious for giving him that weird contract.

Not that this effects the team a whole lot, but did Burnett get injured by Worell, I missed a lot after he got thrown down, but I didn't see him back on the ice. Does anyone know?
he was woozy..
he was already on the ice, and worrell was hitting him while he was already face down on the ice..

Doofus.
Trogdor!

On Burnett, he did skate one shift after that, in the 3rd. Which is pretty good for him, actually. Usually we don't see him after the first.

Personally, I thought he had a pretty good game.

I agree, I liked his play the last 2 games actually. Thats why i was hoping he didn't get hurt right when he was starting to play well. His shot in the first period actually really suprised me, i didn't even know he could do that.

Maybe he should take Sykora's spot on Rucchin's line for a game, just to see.

Seriously. I'd like to see a line like that.

If he can play, with his size, we could sure use him.

I thought he looked good in establishing himself in the slot. He's not a very diligent backchecker, and he has a penchant for crosschecking or shoving anything in reach, but he made himself dangerous down low.

If nothing else, I'd like to see him planted in front of Salo on the power play.

Apperantly from the Times there was a players only meeting after the game where the captains and assistant captains spoke to the team about scoring first and not getting behind and having to hit a grand slam to come back. Giggy threw a water bottle. Its about damn time this team started to get pissed off. Maybe we'll start playing better. :dunno:

Great, another players only meeting. That hasn't worked to this point in the season. It gives them a temporary boost, but that's it.

I always hated the team meeting concept. Rather than blow off all their steam behind closed doors, how about taking that energy and using it on the ice?
