The Devils sent Corrente back to juniors today. Mike Mottau is the 7:th D-man for now. Mottau will wear #27 from now on.

Bergfors' number was changed from #52 to #12.

Pelley's from #49 to #10

Clarkson changes from #48 to Gomez' old number #23.

Weekes changed from #40 to #1.

Oddly, Asham changed from #22 to #23 and Weekes changed from #40 to #1.

Clarkson is still wearing #48.... maybe he'll get the #22?

Wish Bergfors would have gotten #10. Come on, that's a goal scorer's jersey number.

Then why did it used to be Rasmussen's number?
I personally would have rather seen what Corrente can do for a few games then Mottau.

I wonder why Asham and Weekes changed their jersey numbers? They maybe asked for it?

I like the #12. Several of my favourite Devils have worn that number over the years, most notably Jeff Friesen and Bill Guerin. I'm glad Bergfors got that one....

10 or 19 for Bergfors would have been more suitable, but whatever. I just hope a crapload of goals are scored and there is a lot of learning and progress with the rookies.

19 already belongs to Zajac...remember?

I changed the original post. Apparently Gulitti mixed guys up and thought Asham had changed to #23. That wasn't the case.

Clarkson gets #23 after wearing #48 through camp.

They probably sent Corrente down to let him develop. Wouldn't want to stunt his development being a backup D that doesn't get to play alot.

Damn, I really wanted to see Corrente play in a few games. It would have been nice to get him a taste of the NHL.

Good to see that Bergfors, Pelley, and Clarkson are sticking around.

Which is probably why he was sent down. If we only had 5 healthy defensemen and it was either him or Mottau, Corrente probably would've stuck around. We have 6 NHL-caliber guys and Mottau will be the odd man out. That's fine with me because Corrente, like Bergfors, needs legit minutes. Bergfors had his opportunity this year because of injuries to play in the top 6.

I was little surprised when they didn't send down Corrente. They said they would and did. God, for our defense to be good, we'll need a few guys to have career years.

hmm i guess motteu will not see any time at all or else i would imagine they would have went with Fraser unless he completely regressed and motteu all of a sudden became good.

Did Fraser even get into a preseason game with the Devils? I don't think he did. My guess is that he didn't impress very much.

I remember reading in an article that the Devils were never planing on Corrente playing in the NHL. The Devils had every intention to send hime back to the OHL or where ever he plays.

I know they said he would be back in juniors this year, but he could still could have got a few games in the NHL before he was sent back. And especially with White's injury I thought he might have gotten a chance to play some.

Really, I thought the rule was if the team allows him to play in the regular season then he has to stay with the big club, and he can't be sent back to minors.

I think he will play for Lowell next season and he will get called up every now and then.

Why? If Corrente was going to come up as a junior, he's got to play.

If Sutter felt like he didn't earn a spot and wasn't going to play him, why
would you leave him with the Devils?

I mean, it's pretty obvious Mottau isn't going to play unless he has to.

He can play ten games and still go back to juniors. Eleven and he's stuck in NJ.

Actually, an NHL team can send a 18 or 19yo player back to juniors after 11,12,15,25 games or any other number; 10 is the magic number in terms of the contractual issues and the first year of the contract not counting and for that reason, an important threshold.

No. But in 1999 he had 108. 108 reversed is 801. Now if only we can sign Grebsrof to a contract we're in business.:handclap:

But, regarding Mottau, I think we are being a little negative. He would probably have been preferred to Alex Brooks if he had been fit early last year and, other than Andy Greene and (ahem) Dan McGillis was the best D-man at Lowell last season. I think he will probably do better in spot duty than Corrente at this stage of their respective careers.
