WWOHOSOGHOO!!! Your Anaheim Ducks are playing those dastardly Kings from across the lane. Them Kings beat our rookies 5-4 in the last game, but with a different roster and the positive vibes of a weekend breeze, I smell a different smell in the air.

Ok, cool. It is strange that the rosters haven't been released for the game yet.

Blake is the only player playing from Tuesday Night. So a whole new Kings roster.

I imagine it's almost the same for the Ducks.

McDonald19
09-15-2007, 02:43 PM
Yeah most of the veterans that didn't play Thursday should play tonight.

Bertuzzi, McDonald, Perry, Rob Niedermayer, May, Parros, O'Donnell, Schneider, DiPenta, Huskins.

Though the Ducks play Sunday and Monday night so It's not guaranteed who will play.

Here are the radio links:

Ducks: http://www.830klaa.com/

Kings: http://2005.progressivetalk1150.com/pages/streaming.html

As we learned on Thursday the AM 830 server fills up really fast so you may have better luck with the talk1150 link.

I would complain about how the am 830 server filled up so quickly, but considering how they didn't have a "listen live" option last year I'll take it as steps in the right direction. At least this means that if you do get in you'll get to hear some postgame.

Good game for both teams. This year the rivalry is really going to heat up, you can already see that finally the players are gaining mutual hate for one another, instead of just the hate being between the fans.

Being a Kings fan, Mcdonald, Schnieder until he sprained his ankle, Perry, Bertuzzi all did not play well. And I'm not saying that because I'm a Kings fan, I was suprised that Mcdonald didn't stnad out more. He usually kills us.

Good game, guys

11,107 Attendance on a Saturday Night ?

- Half were Ducks fans.

When are the Kings moving to Las Vegas now that Southern California has a real team and AEG is building an arena near downtown Vegas?

Time to pack up the 40 years of mediocrity and move down the road. :biglaugh:

Call me when any Southern California team has an attendance that low during the regular season. It's just the preseason. Paying to watch a preseason game just isn't for me. I'd be lying if I said I enjoy driving all the way out from the Inland Empire for something that holds very little meaning. I've done it before, but I don't have time to do that now. Especially on a night in which USC tore the house down, that's my main priority.

*****ing about attendance is meaningless. The only time these two cities will be without an NHL team will be if the NHL decides it's going to close up shop.

I went to this game since I won't be able to go to many reg. season games this year (I needed hockey!). Sucks to hear about Schnieder...I didn't know the reason why he didn't return. Great to see quite a few other Ducks fans there (from what I could hear from my area, the chants, "lets go Ducks" and "Ducks suck" were about evenly split). Also, great to see that our Ducks are so far right on track to leading the league in penalties again ;) Same Ducks though in terms of sticking up for one another.

I was fairly impressed by Miller's play. I didn't really focus on him too much during the Cup run but he looks more and more like he's fitting in w/ the big club.

The irony of this statement is that Kings fans used to love to talk about low attendance in Anaheim, and the scarcity of fans that cheer for the Ducks.

I'm not saying you were a culprit, as I really don't know, but you can't be surprised to see the same stone thrown back at you.

Sadly, the town of Orange Country is known for being a bunch of bangwagoners. Happened with the Angels and the same happened with your Ducks. And of course the Ducks who are coming off of winning the Cup are going to outsell the Kings for at least a year. But once you guys don't win the cup again people will go back to the Angels.

Yes....let's compare the first pre-season game of the year on a Thursday night to the second game on a Saturday night in LA during which the local football team (you know, the sport that is more popular than hockey in nearly every area of the U.S.) which happens to be the #1 team in the country is playing the #14 team in a MEANINGFUL GAME.

Of course, you're probably one of the ones that actually thought there were 16,000 in Anaheim on Thursday. Your season seat sales are higher than the Kings, as they should be following a Stanley Cup victory so the numbers were inflated on that one. I've got 4 tickets but two of my friends were at the Lagwagon/Rise Against show, you had KROQ's LA Invasion last night as well plus the big football game.

Saturday night= Lot's of things to do with a "meaningless" hockey game bringing up the rear.
Thursday night at 7=Nothing else to do.

Call me when "half the crowd" (which, by the way was NOT the case last night) is Ducks fans during a regular season game. Until then, take solace in the fact that you're the only Duck fan bold enough to try to make this argument based off of last nights pre-season game as you sound almost as bad as the Kings fan who yelled "Enjoy your one Cup" at Thursday's game.

The irony of this statement is that Kings fans used to love to talk about low attendance in Anaheim, and the scarcity of fans that cheer for the Ducks.

I'm not saying you were a culprit, as I really don't know, but you can't be surprised to see the same stone thrown back at you.
Yeah, I didn't do it. I don't make fun of the Sun Belt teams either. Their attendance is bad, so what? What happens when/if the league folds because so many of those teams are down there and not making money/not drawing an audience. I bet the majority of the people that did make fun of attendance for those teams would be awful sorry.

What a great image this gives to the Ducks:

Found in Game Photos (http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=MediaGalleryPlayer&galleryId=2416) on the Ducks website.

That would be Carter for you. He was by far one of my favorites in Portland, but we used to play this game counting how many times he fell during the course of the game. He seemed to have a little trouble staying up on his skates. More so than the other guys. That picture is priceless to me. :)

Actually that's the point that makes the whole "USC/meaningless preseason game" argument moot. Truth is not many people attended either game, and rightly because it is preseason and there aren't that many hockey fans first in SoCal.

But our near 17000 attendance is because we have 15000 season tickets and the Kings have say 10,000 season tickets accounting for the 11,000. So no matter what argument or excuse you can come up with the Ducks have more season ticket holders.

Not that that has any reflection on how good of a team either is, or that either team is better than any other, or that attendance should even be used in any sort of taunts (why should attendance even matter?).

I said the Ducks have more season seats sold. Of course, they should have more season seat holders since the Kings haven't been to the playoffs since forever and the ducks have a WCF and Stanley Cup win the past two seasons. This really isn't rocket science. Ticket prices are also lower at Honda Center and the Kings have scaled back the number of "Die-Hard" $12 season seats while the Ducks are still offering 2 for 1 sections although I am not sure if that's been scaled back.

The USC argument is not moot in regards to last nights attendance as I can assure you there would have been more fans in attendance. You also can't discount the LA Invasion as the only pre-season game I missed was a few years back for Inland Invasion. Big time concert that happens once a year versus a meaningless pre-season game? Concert wins every time.

Bottom line is that the Ducks are the much hotter ticket right now. If you think that equals a larger number of Ducks fans going to games though you are wrong; it's just that it's a hot ticket, much like the Lakers have been with 5,000 chicks there who don't know crap about basketball but it's "cool" to go to a Lakers game. Now, if the Ducks keep up their winning ways then maybe these new fans will stick around and learn the game but, for the time being, there are a bunch of people attending because it's the cool thing to do. If you live in Orange County and can't fathom that then you are dillusional.

Also, I was able to get lower bowl tickets off of stubhub for the Thursday game for $17 and seats in the 400's were only $6. I looked for lower bowl seats to Saturdays game at the same time and there wasn't anything close to $17.

To the poster that said Kings fans are crying about being made fun of...I don't think that LiveInTheNow and I have "cried" about being made fun of especially since I will be the first one to make fun of the Kings. However, when someone makes a stupid comment or unfounded claim then I will argue the point which I have done rather effectively.

I really want the Ducks to have a strong fan base because I live in OC and I am extremely passionate about the sport of hockey. It's starting to develop but this region, LA included, is very fickle and hockey is still low on the food chain. As such, some of you like MooseDuck or whatever are getting way ahead of yourselves.

As for the game last night, Getzlaf is still a monster and I stand by my previous statement that I'd trade any King not name Kopitar for him.

King has played well but you still shouldn't want him anywhere near the Top-6 as that reminds of when Erik Rasmussen was penciled in to the Top-6 for LA.

Coleman played very well in net but I didn't notice Bertuzzi or Schneider until Schneids picked up a minor penalty.

Someone is just going to board or elbow Dustin Brown eventually because as long as he draws instigator penalties and doesn't get hurt in a fight he will continue to crush you guys. He has absolutely owned McDonald for a couple of seasons now and it probably won't stop until you start sending people at Cammalleri and othe skill guys more often.

Don't know how OD got 4 stitches but I find this "cut by a stick" comment hard to believe. Anybody get a good look as to what happened when they were wrestling on the ice?

I agree with a lot of what you have to say. Except for the notion that attendance is up because a lot of people who live in Orange County are trendy. You need to remember that there are a lot of fans coming in from the IE as well. It's a 30 minute drive from Riverside to Anaheim and I know there's a lot more people besides myself making that drive.

I've always thought that it's stupid for people to claim Anaheim as "Orange County's" team when there are so many supporters in Riverside County as well since they are our closest team and 30 mins isn't even that far away.

Any other people that impressed you in a good (or bad) way? Thoughts appreciated. I'm sure you had a great time! :)

I was sitting in the nose bleed section and didn't have a guide to all the players numbers so I had difficulty identifying some of the younger players.

The defense as a whole did well killing all those penalties. I think Kondratiev was paired with Pronger after O'Donnel and Schnieder were out of the game. He wasn't anything amazing but he seemed to step it up. I'd have really liked to have seen Mikkelson in this game, btw.

It seemed like everyone was a bit rusty and sloppy but that's just the preseason for you. I did like the Perry-Getz-Bertuzzi line though. It was nothing spectacular yet but it they seem to be meshing so far. Getz earned the number one star. He was, imo, by far the most noticable player on the ice for the Ducks.

As BigKing said, Coleman was very sturdy when the pressure was on (esp. when Crazy Legs was on the ice--he had to be ;) ...really though, Joey D wasn't that bad, I think he ended up as a + 2). He seemed very calm for a young goaltender.

As for how O'Donnel got cut, when the scrum began, they both quickly ended up on the ice, OD on top of Brown and they just stayed that way wrestling around until the refs broke it up. He could have hit his face on Brown's helmet or something going down--it wasn't from a punch.

Another thing, Parros had a wonderful chance to score with what looked like plenty of open net to shoot at, so I thought for sure he'd score but then I remembered it was Parros and he shot wide, haha. It would have been fun to see though.

I guess my point was if we wanted to say "we're better than you because we have higher attendence" then it would be valid because despite the circumstances with the day and what else is going on, we have more season ticket holders and so for this season we will almost always have higher attendence this season. The season tickets almost guarantees that.

But I think attendance arguments are stupid. Both teams share the same market. The Kings probably have a few more diehard Kings fans. They better as they've got a good 25 years on us. But neither team has that many real fans, the majority of the people going to either team are bandwagoners. As are the majority of the people going to any sporting event in SoCal. In fact I bet a number of the new ticket-holders are people who went to Kings games 8 years ago when the Staples Center was all new and shiny, and Ducks games 14 years ago when the Mighty Ducks. Although I do hope for the good of hockey that some of the bandwagoners become real fans.

And why should high attendance despite results even be considered a good thing anyways? Like all the fans from traditional markets going "we sell out even when we suck and you don't!" If anything that's sad, it shows people are either being suckered (in which case the team might not have motivation to try to win) or it shows how lame the city is, as there's nothing better for people to do when the team's losing.

The CCO of my company used to have Kings seats but when the Ducks came into existence he switched over to the Ducks since he lives in the IE so yeah, there aren't that many die hards and those of us who are in the die hard category are the ones that show up in both Anaheim and LA anyways :handclap: We could probably find the number of hard core fans of both teams just by getting numbers of posters on the fan boards because that's probably all of them.

As much as it pained me, I was at Game 2 of the SCF because I was offered a ticket and I seriously had to consider an offer for two seats to tonights game against Phoenix even though it's two teams that I do not like and it's only pre-season. If it was regular season I probably would have gone but the Chargers/Pats game won out tonight.

I sincerely hope that the Ducks become like the Angels where if a free ticket is offered people jump all over them. It would be great for hockey in the area and even hockey in general, plus it would be great to maybe run into someone at a bar around here and actually have an intelligent conversation about hockey.

Back to the games from this past week, anyone else excited that two more games between these teams have been decided by a goal each? I know it's only pre-season, but the rivalry seems to be gaining steam as the last 10 games have been very close. I know that SJ is kind of considered your big rival now because of the division implications, but it would be great if this trend between LA/ANA continues.

I hate when people bring up attendance, or try to diss teams because they are located in the Sun Belt. There just isn't any reason for it. What matters is the product on the ice. If a team gets it done on the ice, my opinion is that the people will come. It might take some time, but everyone loves a winner.

Good hockey is good hockey, regardless of what uniform the guys are wearing.

I tend to agree that SJ is considered our big rival right now, but as you pointed out, that's because of division implications. If LA does better this season, and I have no doubts that they will, and find themselves making a real push to make the playoffs, or even making a push for the division title (a bit more far-fetched, but you never know) then I suspect the Kings will quickly take back the #1 spot, and with authority. It's much easier to hate a team when you see their fans all the time, and you are constantly reminded that said team is a few miles away.
