theShiba 09-12-2007, 08:08 PM K guys....
It's that time of year again! Preseason hockey starts tomorrow (thurs 9/13)
Lyons and I will be there cheering for the Ducks and heckling Kings fans like mad.... Who else will be there?
There also might be a possibility that I will have 2 extra free tickets... I will not know until tomorrow though, so PM me w/your info if you would be interested that way I can call you tomorrow around lunch and let you know if they are available.
MOENing 09-12-2007, 08:14 PM man sounds like fun but i have my rop tomorrow

Ducks 09-12-2007, 08:58 PM My girlfriend and I would gladly take those tix off your hands! She is as big a fan as I am.
If it doesn't work out I'll still be listening to the game on AM 830 but man it would be great to be there.
Theridion 09-12-2007, 09:06 PM I will be there. I know u'r excited. (who the heck is that dude?)
Ducksforcup 09-12-2007, 09:09 PM I will be there with my bro and a friend! It is going to be awesome! :yo:

Ducksforcup 09-12-2007, 09:16 PM Here is the lineup for the game.
http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=337018
Kunitz, Getzlaf, Ryan
Beleskey, Marchant, King
Moen, Wirtanen, Hoffman
LaCouture, Carter, Segal
Salcido, Pronger
Kondratiev, Hnidy
Beauchemin, Mikkelson
Bryzgalov, Levasseur
Apparently, you have to have at least 8 vets in the lineup.

I'll buy a few beers for sure! :ducks
Theridion 09-12-2007, 10:51 PM I know its just pre-season, and...
I'm eager to see Ryan, yes, but I'm also eager to see Kunitz and Getz work together. I am Kunitz fan who thinks that Kunitz has enough skills to adapt to various lines and contribute something that the line needs.
All 3 of those defensive pairings look fun to watch as well. Would love to see mr. beauch play with someone 'beneath' him. And watching the duck young-d play is awesome.

If you're talking about me, you might not know me if you weren't around last season.
I was pretty inactive in the offseason, as I am not a big fantasy/draft watcher. So, I kind of took the summer off but I am ready to get back into it and watch some hockey! I am usually pretty active on the GDTs and make some every once in a while.
And hi ya shiba. I have missed you man! :hockey:
Good to see you again, DFC.... I just had a really busy summer. Plus all the trade/draft/contract talk just makes my head spin. I'd rather stick to hockey and leave the business to you die-hard HF-ers. GO DUCKS! :yo:
TheJoeMan 09-13-2007, 01:45 AM Oh I'll be there. Gotta break in the new seats!
Taking a friend to a game for the first time, better be some fights! Man I can't believe they're already playing! Shortest off-season ever sure felt like it.

With Mike Hoffman there (6-5, 248), I imagine that there will be. :fight:
EDIT: I am in section 435, row N, seats 9-11. :)
NomadFan 09-13-2007, 02:05 AM who o the kings have anyone know?
Full Lines haven't been set for the Kings, at least not publicly. Crawford said they might play both Johnson and Boyle tomorrow night, as well as have Blake play both games. Saturday's game they're thinking of playing both Hickey and Bernier. Crawford also did mention something like 40 players will play during these next two games, so obviously players in tomorrow's game won't play in Saturday's and vice versa. And if I'm reading the interview responses properly, tomorrow night you'll get to shell Aubin and Cloutier the entire game :help:
iHATEbeauch23 09-13-2007, 02:07 AM ill be there in my bryz jersey

drivelikejoewho 09-13-2007, 03:08 PM I'll be there cheering for the Kings. I am going to fart as much as I can in whoever's season seats I bought off ebay. I hate the friggin parking there but there will probably only be about 5k people there so it shouldn't be so bad. I am bringing a girl from Anaheim with me who has never been to a hockey game. She has already renounced the Ducks.
Good luck this season guys.. actually nevermind.. good luck to the Kings.. we're the ones who need it!
I hope there isn't a baseball game tonight..

They just aren't playing together tonight and from all the reports I've heard of camp they are in different groups for the practice sessions and scrimmages.
I've got no problem with them playing on the same line, but I do think some time apart is good for them and the team.

Duckstudd269 09-14-2007, 01:59 AM hm.. I wonder how Bobby Ryan did? I am sad to hear that the Getzlaf line didn't do much. I was kinda hoping that line would dominate the game. Oh well maybe someone who went to the game can shed some light on how all the players did when they get back.

I thought Bobby Ryan did well. He was playing with Getz and Kunitz and did not look out of place on the ice with players of that caliber. His first few shifts looked awkward but by the end he was playing well positionally and making good pass ideas (the passes were not completed so I can't really call them passes). He did take 2 bad penalties.
Ryan Carter looked pretty good at the start of the game but looked lazy or tired in the 2nd and especially 3rd period where he looked out of place a lot.
I also though Dan LaCouture looked pretty good out there. And Mikkelson had two good shifts but no one else stood out to me.
What was with all the calls on Pronger? did he piss off the refs or something because it was just getting stupid.

Ok. That was hilarious.
Mooseduck 09-14-2007, 02:54 AM Bobby Ryan needs at least a year with the Pirates.
Looks like a boy playing with a bunch of men.
Personally, I think he is lazy and lacks suitable work ethic.
The Pirates staff should be able to make him into something by next year.
This sounds harsh, but we don't have time for baby sitting this season. :help:
Jerky Leclerc 09-14-2007, 03:00 AM Beauchemin looks like a real all-star out there. I think he is ready to step out from Niedermayer's shadow.
BigKing 09-14-2007, 03:13 AM Ryan had an assist on the first PP goal but looked like an AHL'er at best the rest of the game. Without looking at the box score and going by memory he took three penalties or two but one was definitely a double minor. Whoever said he needs a year in the AHL is right which sucks for you guys because it would be great if he could fill Penner's old spot.
He also got lit up right at an offsides whistle by Blake with a hip-check that could be seen coming a mile away. A year in Portland will be good for him as PF's usually take longer to develop.
Pronger got so many calls because he committed the penalties, especially the dive. I don't know how many of you followed Pronger closely before he came here but he's always been a POS and he still is one. Every call was warranted and he showed his true colors by challenging noted tough guy Lubomir Visnovsky at the end of the game.
Getzlaf is the straight money though and I'd trade any player on the Kings not named Kopitar straight up for him.

LA needs defense more then anything at the moment. I wouldn't trade Johnson for Getz either.
Mooseduck 09-14-2007, 03:35 AM Beauchemin looks like a real all-star out there. I think he is ready to step out from Niedermayer's shadow.
I agree.
Levasseur also looked good when the pressure was on. Made some nice saves - I love seeing young goalies get frazzled once in a while - lots of fun.
Despite the good game, I think Drats needs a bit more work on the defensive side.
Hnidy might be a nice surprise - seemed to be working hard out there - let's hope for some improvement.
Moen acted sick / injured.
Getz seemed to show more leadership / detemination - maybe it was the "A" on his chest.
Kunitz -looked good - somewhat rusty.
Prongs - was assigned a referee by NHL to teach him some lessson?
Marchant - looks to be determined and in good shape - makes the same stupid mistakes. But still valuable.
Segal will fly back to Portland soon.
King will sit next to Segal on the flight.
Hoffman will fill out the three seat row.
Wirtanen is worth watching - something might be happening here.
Ryan Carter - looked best at warmups.
Mikkelson held his own - but there is a lot of competition.
Lacouture seems alright - nothing special - more time needed with mates.
Note: The Kings will not be horrible. Calder might spark a decent line. Blake showed no effort - nothing new. Johnson ok, but overrated this season. Now, they need to settle on a goal tender. ( Good luck with that LA mismanagement. )
I like the Ducks depth, they will be scary again. :yo:
TheJoeMan 09-14-2007, 03:49 AM Most fun I've had at a preseason game in a while. Too bad about the flukey GW goal. Oh well.
On a brighter note my friend, brother and myself made it onto TSN's sportscentre. If you watch the game highlights you'll see my bro head banging at the tale end of it. Nice! :yo:
Randall Graves* 09-14-2007, 04:27 AM Ryan had an assist on the first PP goal but looked like an AHL'er at best the rest of the game.

He's our POS who helped the team win a cup, I think I can deal with the future hall of fame defensemen.
Chone 09-14-2007, 04:49 AM You wouldn't trade Kopitar for Getzlaf?
I guess they're close enough.
Randall Graves* 09-14-2007, 04:54 AM My friend and his girlfriend had a good time with the Kings/Raiders fans/Anaheim haters. Everytime they start running their yaps in the pond this year or use an illogical Ducks suck comment i'll just point to the stanley cup banner, although i'm sure that won't stop them.
My friend sent me a few txts and said Ryan is ready to contribute on the PP right now but is not ready for ES but noted he looked better than last year. Shouldn't be to hard on him, many people had similar comments about Perry last year in regards to his skating and legs.
The puck moving wasn't very good, granted there were several guys who will be in the minrs but it makes you appreciate Scott Niedermayer more.
Getzlaf "beast"
If Bertuzzi is going to be a RW who will play LW with the twins? Sevy suggested Brad May during the broadcast but i 100 percent disagree, we need a scorer there. If thats going to be the no.1 line maybe you throw Kunitz there.
The team has some holes, Niedermayer needs to make up his mind, and hopefully Teemu will play on the cheap..
Lyons71 09-14-2007, 05:04 AM There were many times where a scrum appeared and i thought "this is just where Perry would come in and take the puck" Getz had a Perry-less game. I could tell. Even though he was still the big forward on the team.
What a back and forth game. There were plenty of goals that shouldn't have gone in... Oh well.
I scared a little girl in front of me by yelling "you suck cloutier" really loud. She just stared at me. At first, I thought it would be a funny thing to debate with her, but realized that she was just looking because I yelled... not because I said Cloutier sucks... and because she was 7... haha.
BraveSirRobin 09-14-2007, 05:26 AM Okay, my thoughts on the game.
Levasseur looked good. I really liked him.
In all honesty, I didn't think Segal did that bad. He showed a lot of tenacity, though not much else. He'll be a decent to okay injury call up. Hoffman and Wirtanen did well too, I think Wirtanen may challenge for a spot here for in a year or so.
I was impressed with Kondratiev. I can see him challenging for the 6th or 7th spot. Mikkelson also impressed me. He'll be really good here down the line.
A lot of the regulars looked rusty (Moen for one), though I liked Hnidy. Should be fun to see him play.
Ryan...I wasn't impressed. He obviously has the tools, but he needs seasoning. He looked lost out there a lot. Nothing a year or so in Portland can't fix.
For the Kings I thought Aubin did a great job. He was making saves that should have gone in. I like him better than Cloutier. The rough stuff at the end of the game hopefully leads to more physical games between the Ducks and Kings. For the most part I enjoyed talking with the Kings fans behind me. The one infront of me though, ugh. "Enjoy your one Cup!" wtf? "At least we have one!" was my response. He then decided to mock the team name then tried to start a "F--- the Ducks!" chant which basically got him laughed at by everyone.
Bulls guy 09-14-2007, 08:25 AM Can anyone tell me how Beleskey looked? This would've been his first game at this level. I saw on the lineup sheet that he was supposed to be playing with Marchant and King. Any info would be great.

i really missed hockey i'm glad it's back
When I saw the highlights on tsn this morning I was so happy finally hockey is back:D
theShiba 09-14-2007, 11:32 AM I just want to put in a good word for Salcido. While he wasn't doing anything spectacular, he was looking really solid out there. He kept good position, and didn't make any DiPenta-like easy turnovers.
B Ryan, on the other hand just wasn't impressing me. He wasn't playing bad, but it just seemed to me like his puck awarenes wasn't where it should be for someone who wants to be in the NHL.... Like I said, he's not bad, but I don't know that he's the superstar that everyone is saying he should be.
princess duckling 09-14-2007, 01:14 PM Last night was the first pre-season game of the year. We played the Queens. (For those of you who actually call them the Kings, well, whatever floats your boat, but I call them Queens.)
We lost 5-4 due to a late goal in the 3rd on their side.
There were a few people impressing me, a lot who didn't impress me at all.
It was a much less physical game than I thought it would be.. you know?
Pronger had some issues with the penalty box.. 4 times!
I happened to notice a kid get smacked in the face with a puck. That looked painful, but he seemed to be a trooper. What a story to share with the classmates the next day.
So that's that. It was REALLY nice to see Hockey again.
Good show ol chap.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 09-14-2007, 01:46 PM which one are you?
http://www.duckszone.com/ducks-kings.jpg
Joe Callahan got three assists? I think Yahoo1 said that, too, but did he even play?
On Yahoo!, he got two of thos assists on the same goal. I think they just put his name in for every assist that was unaccounted for. I think they did the same with Brady Murray for the Kings, who also did not play.
Spiral 09-14-2007, 01:56 PM Highlights and interviews now up on DucksTV (http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=337296)
Zymergist 09-14-2007, 02:11 PM I think a lot of you are being hard on B. Ryan. His big problem last night, IMO, was that he was trying to fit into Getz & Kunitz's game rather then playing his own. Given that Getz & Kunitz were not playing well together made it difficult for Ryan positionally (really only the first 2 shifts did I feel he was lost on the ice the rest he looked better). He played well on the power play. A couple times he got knocked off the puck way too easily but a couple other times he did a good job muscling the puck through defenders. He played the corners and boards well IMO. Many of his passes to Kunitz were not completed but honestly I think that was Kunitz more then Ryan as Kunitz looked like he had a hole in his stick the entire night. Ryan was no where near perfect out there, but he looked more NHL ready, IMO, then Perry did last camp and he looks much stronger and skates better then last year. I think he has the skills to be in the NHL but I think he needs more time to learn the system and the other players to work with them better.
Ducks 09-14-2007, 02:42 PM Here's my brief synopsis of last night's game: (Thanks again to Shiba for the tix :) )
Players who impressed me:
Salcido: He played really solid in my opinion. He put out a lot of effort, didn't really make any mistakes, and unlike most of the guys out there didn't look like he was playing college hockey. Everyone has been saying good things about this kid, and now that I've seen him play I really have to agree. I think he'll be in the NHL sooner than later.
Getzlaf: If you just look at the game stats it's not that apparent, but Getzy had the 'A' last night and really showed a lot of leadership on the ice with the new guys. He also created a lot of opportunities with the puck and didn't look half as lazy as Pronger.
Players that didn't impress me:
Kunitz: Played like crap.
Bryzgalov: I'm not sure what happened..maybe it's just rust..but he had a really bad game.
Ryan: I'm not really too impressed with him.
Overall it was a fun game, everyone is still shaking off some rust from the summer, if Bryzgalov had been on his game we would have won.
Mooseduck 09-14-2007, 02:44 PM I was being kind when I said that the Ducks do not need to babysit Ryan this season.
With his lazy game, he will find Portland rather challenging. He is not NHL ready.
Time for Bobby to grow up and work harder - we have seen this with most of our sucessful youngsters over the years. The ones that worked hard have found a spot in Anaheim - hopefully this camp is wakeup call to Bobby. He has a lot of potential.
Mooseduck 09-14-2007, 02:51 PM Can anyone tell me how Beleskey looked? This would've been his first game at this level. I saw on the lineup sheet that he was supposed to be playing with Marchant and King. Any info would be great.
I noticed him during wamups but I am not sure if he ever hit the ice for the game.
Maybe, I missed something. Look at allducks.com for training camp reports about his overall progress. :)
TheJoeMan 09-14-2007, 03:16 PM which one are you?

The one on the right with the massive jaw. My bro Mikey is the head-banging fellow and my friend Mario is directly next to him. I'm gonna love those seats this year!
BigKing 09-14-2007, 04:32 PM He's our POS who helped the team win a cup, I think I can deal with the future hall of fame defensemen.
I'm not saying you can't deal with him as I will take any POS that can help my team win the Cup but at the same time I don't have to like him; a change of sweaters does not equal absolution for previous sins.
My comment is directed at the Ducks fans who think Pronger does no wrong. You are not one of these fans but there are many which is why I made the original comment.
I do expect a better comeback from you though to mouthy Kings fans as "Scoreboard" is the lamest and least witty of all comebacks: I know you can do better.
Yeah, I'd trade Johnson for Getzlaf. I don't care if this teams greater need is defense because a 1-2 center combo of Kopitar/Getzlaf would equal doom and gloom for the rest of the NHL. With all of the depth that's been acquired on defense, the drafting of Hickey and two 1st rounders in this years upcoming strong draft well...I think you have to jump on the proven beast that is Getzlaf.

will "Stanley" do?
BigKing 09-14-2007, 05:12 PM "Stanley" or any other comment is a variation of "Scoreboard".
It's not nearly as lame as Kings fans who brought up '93 before the Ducks made the Finals but it's still lame.
Whoever is winning the game at the time has the right to talk trash about the current game so, even though the ducks are better than the Kings, a Kings fan can say "Ducks Suck" and saying "Stanley" doesn't help because, at that exact moment in time, the Ducks suck.
"Scoreboard" and the like are just trump cards that shouldn't be played unless someone says something lame like "Enjoy your 1 Cup"; anything is fair game at that point ;)
I don't know, I like a little flavor in my heckles and fan arguments..."Scoreboard" is like saying "Your Mom" or something stupid.

a) I don't know who's trying to regulate trashtalk, but for the most part, it is what it is. Most of it comes from the mouths of idiots or drunks anyway, but it's tough to lay ground rules. Just have to shrug off the stuff that isn't relevant.
b) I'm not sure about your take, though. I mean, if a Kings fan wants to trashtalk about a mid-game score in a half-roster preseason game, that's the be-all end-all? There's no perspective? Nobody is allowed to point out that it's a meaningless result compared to another one?
I'm not really trying to jerk your chain or anything--I understand where you're coming from (I'm not that fond of "Stanley" the comeback myself), but I don't know what's out of bounds when it comes to trashtalk; probably all of it.
Zymergist 09-14-2007, 05:45 PM My comment is directed at the Ducks fans who think Pronger does no wrong. You are not one of these fans but there are many which is why I made the original comment.
Pronger can definitely do wrong, and has. However some of those calls against him last night were jokes. I am not saying he is super clean, just that what they were letting others get away with was different from what they were letting Pronger get away with. The league is sending him a message in the pre-season.

How about "Cloutier"
BigKing 09-14-2007, 09:31 PM How about "Cloutier"
That is good and works very well, much like when I used to throw down "Karpa".
Trashtalking about which team is better during a pre-season game is lame so my last post applies to regular season, full-squad games. In pre-season though, individual players are still very much fair game like when I threw down the classic "Look out for the red line!" after Beauchemin fell over trying to skate backwards. Sometimes you have to dust off the classics.
Of course, Beauchemin put that slap shot on that King deflected and the Duck fan in front of me just gave me a look and a very slight smirk. That was very effective as well.
My favorite moment though was when the Ducks fan two rows up from me screamed out "They've got 6 guys!!!" during a delayed penalty against the Ducks. Perhaps the fans are still in pre-season form as well.

I don't know, maybe they didn't see the ref's arm up or the goalie leave the net. But it's about on par with the Kings fans near me who said, "What the **** are you doing?!?!?!" When the Kings dumped the puck in behind the Ducks net during a line change.
Sacco!
Oh wait, that was one of ours.
