Korky94 09-11-2007, 03:47 PM Hey everybody!
Sharks fan here (don't worry, I come in peace :))
Anyways, I just moved down to southern California for school, and I am having trouble finding a roller hockey league to play in down here. I'm living in a city called Azusa, which is about 30 minutes North East of Anaheim, and since I plan to be going to Anaheim anyways to see Ducks/Sharks games, I figured it would be cool if I could find a place to play roller hockey in Anaheim as well.
Thanks in advance for the help and good luck this season!
Cropduster 09-11-2007, 04:42 PM welcome.... this is your closest bet

probably not 15 minutes from you
Doriath 09-11-2007, 05:15 PM I play at the West Covina rink. I like the place, but it is not air conditioned (so during the summer it's brutally hot). There is a problem with the lower divisions having a ringer or two on each team, but I haven't found a place that doesn't have ringers.
I used to live in Azusa, and back then there was a rink close by in La Verne. It's a shame that place closed down because it was pretty nice (though smaller).
BTW, for others that may play in Covina, the highest division I play in is the C Division (though I'm looking to move up to B- once I improve)
Korky94 09-11-2007, 08:52 PM Thanks for the help! That place in West Covina looks perfect!! :handclap:
Ducks 09-11-2007, 10:35 PM you could always try Ice Hockey :naughty:
But yeah for roller hockey I think Covina is the closest. And while you're down here, you might consider becoming a Ducks fan.
lux_interior 09-11-2007, 11:02 PM I could tell you lots of places for ice. But roller, blech. In addition to Covina there is Glacial Gardens in Lakewood. They used to have a sheet there for roller, but I'm not sure if they still do.
Ducks 09-12-2007, 12:13 AM anyone play hockey at ice town in riverside? I practice there every week but I probably won't find the weekend time to play in the men's league till next season.

I switched over to ice hockey last year at my last school (SJSU) and played there and I must admit, I WAY prefer ice to roller, but ice is too expensive for me! So as a poor college student, I stick with roller.

haha the ducks have always been my 2nd favorite team, and I've taken a lot of crap in recent years from my friends for that! However that being said, the Sharks will ALWAYS be my first love! :yo:

:teach:Just do what I did: Apply for a federal Pell grant and save a lil money for Hockey :yo: You have to really hurry though as the deadline is approaching.

I used to play down there, now I'm in Ontario at Center Ice. Riverside's a decent league, though my team had some major issues with the management during last season's playoffs. But if you're starting out there's a few teams always looking to pick up new guys in the bronze division.
Aguapolo17 09-17-2007, 11:35 PM Hey Chad,
I'm from San Jose too, and when I came to Orange County, I started playing roller hockey. I played for about 3 years at Anaheim Hockey Club. It is REALLY close to the Honda Center. A bunch of Sharks fan friends of mine were on the team. Now that I am working a lot (I'll actually be working all the Ducks home games this year on the TV broadcast), I don't have time for roller, but there are a lot of competitive leagues and teams at Anaheim Hockey Club. Check them out at www.anaheimhockeyclub.com.

Good man. Being loyal to your team is always a good thing, no matter where you live.
I would suggest the Anaheim Hockey Club, but their facility is being moved to Corona and that makes it a bit more annoying to get to.
Tikkanen 09-24-2007, 04:26 PM I play in the Gold division at Riverside and I think the place is run fine. The big differences between Covina and AHC is that AHC is indoors and AHC has regulation rinks. Covina has little tiny rinks which make not so good players a little better since you dont have to skate as much or as far.
Sandman33 09-24-2007, 06:08 PM I play at coast 2 coast in Huntington beach and I drive a half hour to get there even though I live real close to Anaheim Hockey Club.
Coast 2 Coast has slightly smaller rinks which keeps the pace of the game moving a bit faster and the BIG reason I go there is because they have giant fans blowing air all across the rink and a fan blowing air across the benches too. I cant tell you how much of a difference that makes! It lets me play harder and faster for a much longer time so I enjoy the game more.
The refs are fair and for the MOST part the leagues are competitive. A lot of the players know eachother and the environment is very competitive but friendly at the same time for the most part.
Thats why I drive farther to play there.

Generally yeah. But I play at a small ice rink (Pasadena) and you don't have to skate as much, but it gives you a lot less room to operate.
But when I switched to a larger rink (Burbank) it took me a season to adjust.
