What return would you expect for Bryzgalov

Obviously looking for opinions from Duck fans. A strong contingent of my fellow Red Wings fans seem to think that hes trash and we'll never amount to anything but a weak backup. I think he could be a great starter on any team with a semi-decent defense.

I proposed a plan of trading for Bryzgalov this season to backup Dom Hasek (Partial insurance policy) and moving Ilja into a starting role when Dom most likely retires. Wings fans seem to think that Jimmy Howard, a guy having a tough time even being spectacular in the AHL, is going to be Detroit's starter next season. If Howard does prove to be a hot shot, then he can fight for the starting role with Bryz. If not, we'll have a capable starter who is relatively cheap.

So im asking, what would it take to trade for Bryzgalov. Realistically, whats he worth to the team?

A high draft pick? Your 5th best prospect?

It is so hard to say at this point with the goaltending market as it is. Add to the fact we would be directly dealing Bryz to a team I fully expect to compete with for West Champs. To me that makes the asking price higher than Detroit would ever want give into.

IMO I would keep him and then try and deal him off around the deadline to a Eastern team. But that is just me.

Obviously two rivals dealing is pretty far fetched but Burke seems like the kind of guy that would get it done. If it were in the best interest of his own team.

Not to toot my teams horn but im pretty much expecting a re-match in this years playoffs. I doubt Bryzgalov would tilt the series in either direction. Last time around, we just lacked the scoring to get past the ducks, Hasek was solid.

I agree with Frink on Bryz's value, but I think you are underrating Jimmy Howard. His last season wasn't very impressive, but don't let that fool you. I have seen the kid play, and he has a great butterfly style and he can play the puck very well. He definitely shows a lot of potential that is hard to find in goalies these days.

Potential is one thing and I agree with you and every other Wings fan that he has the potential. But hes not even gonna be hardly used in the NHL this season, hes only played four total games and he was pretty shaky during those few starts.

Do you really anticipate Jimmy being starter material for a cup contender in the next 9 months? I do not. Certainly he could surprise and be a capable backup to start. But I can't see Jimmy Howard taking the NHL by storm at the age of 23..

I think the return we'll get for Bryz rides on a couple of things:

1. The circumstance for which a team needs Ilya. Now that the off-season has essentially come and gone it's become clear that no one is in desperate need for an Ilya Bryzgalov. But that will change once a goalie gets injured. Now if it's team that rides heavily on their goalie and are crusted by his injury than Burkie may have a blank check kind of deal. But if it's a team that has a good back-up than it might be a so-so return. Problem though is Burke can really only take back picks or prospects because of the cap, unless Scotty retires.

2. How good Johan Hiller is/will be. If this guy is the real deal and proves he can take the reins as backup than Burkie really will listen to all offers for Bryz. If he's not, than Burkie may be stuck with Bryz unless another goalie is sent back in return. My guy tells me Hiller will be good but not until around x-mas does Burkie pull the trigger on a trade.

As far as the Wings are concerned. I'd take Hudler for Bryz. I'd say Filppula but I think y'all are really high on him and that won't happen. But I think Burke moves Bryz to an Eastern Conference team anyway.

We got Bert and Schnieder, I don't want any more of Detroit's trash.
