Isn't Sami Pahlsson injured the same way Geoff Peters is, or did I miss something entirely?
wildcat48 09-10-2007, 09:12 PM Yes, it's just how they label it.
Ducksforcup 09-10-2007, 09:12 PM Apparently, MacMillian was injured (concussion) and so was not invited to the camp.
Found this on ALLDUCKS according to DTP.
Duckstudd269 09-10-2007, 09:19 PM so now Scotty is for sure not going to camp? I remember hearing he could show at camp, it would just be late.

I think it was rumored or he told Brian he wouldn't be coming and a move as per the CBA was forthcoming that he would be removed from the submitted roster.
Brian was prepared to move on w/o Scott and privately was hoping it wouldn't come to what has now happened or will officially be occurring tomorrow.

if he's listed than he is until there's a further decision made by Anaheim that staying w/ the Ducks is in Tangradi's best interests, when that occurs, then you'll see him report to his previous team.

The Kings usually televise one preseason game per year, but I don't know if it'll be against the Ducks.
Lyons71 09-11-2007, 05:01 PM Haha... Bobby Ryan lined up Bertuzzi in the scrimmage and got knocked the fk down!
There were a few huge guys. Hoffman is a monster and there were a few tough looking defensmen, Saunders and Callahan . Portland must be a tough team to play against. Lots of big guys are gonna be there, Bolt too...
No Scott Nieds, in case you were wondering.
And there's no way Levasseur is 6'0". He is seriously 5'8", if that.
Overall, it was hard to get a grasp on who was gonna make the team and not. Basically, you could only really see the difference in passing/decision making between regular NHLers and tryout guys. Among the tryouts though, it was hard to see much.
There also were plenty of 5/6 defensman to choose from it seems. Any of Huskins, Hnidy, Kondratiev, Micklesson, or even Rome and Saunders looked like they could be solid challengers.
Spankatola Jamnuts 09-11-2007, 05:27 PM Was Ryan awake today, or is he still sleepskating?
TheJoeMan 09-11-2007, 05:34 PM Good to see the boys back on the ice! A few things that stood out for me:
--Bertuzzi has amazing hands. Easily the most creative forward during the scrimmage. Skated fine, doesn't seem to be bothered by his back at all. Overall pleasant debut in my opinion.
--Huskins was all over the place during the scrimmage. Going end-to-end, pinching in, doing little spin-o-rama's to evade defenders. I'm gonna keep an eye on him because I think he'll kick it up a notch this season.
--Eric Tangradi looked pretty good. He was hustling big time and has good size. Could be a gem that one.
--Bobby Ryan's skating still sucks but it's really not that bad. He skates hard, as least as hard as he can. The fact of the matter is the kid has a huge torso and little legs. He'll never be a good skater, ever. But so what, neither was Luc Robataille. But the kid has amazing hands. He can make plays out of nothing as long as he's got the puck. When paired with talented line mates like Kunitz he was dangerous. But yes, still a crappy skater.
--Robbie Niedermayer lined up as a center for every drill and the entire scrimmage. If Sammy isn't ready for London than I'd expect Robbie to fill his slot. I figured Carlyle might try that out and so far that looks like his strategy. But that also leaves another hole on the right side so Bobby Ryan will really have to take a few steps back not to make the opening roster because there's not another RW with his talent.
--Jonas Hiller looked pretty good. Fast reflexes, very athletic. Seemed real confident on the ice.
All in all an enjoyable practice. I got to stand next to Hazy during the second half of the scrimmage which was pretty cool. I may go again tomorrow, depending on how my paycheck looks. But this squad looks pretty good after day 1.

I have heard really good things about Tangradi. Good to hear! :) Good that Bert didn't seem bothered by an injury.
Thanks for the review all! :)
Lyons71 09-11-2007, 05:58 PM Was Ryan awake today, or is he still sleepskating?
He was hustling like everyone else. His skating isn't really an issue to me. He can't be any slower than Perry. It's learning to deal with big guys that might be it. He got knocked around a few times, but overall he was fine. He'll just have to adjust to having big guys (like Bertuzzi) playing against him.
TheJoeMan 09-11-2007, 06:04 PM awesome review anything else on tangradi? what are your guys hopes for him? maybe play in teh minors next year?
Didn't look like an 18 year old that's for sure. Effort wise, reminded a little bit of Getzlaf on his first day of camp four years ago (can't believe that was four years ago, God I feel old). You can tell the kid wants it bad and he'll get it, eventually. I will say this, he's better than Belesky and I really like Belesky. Reminds me of a Mike Leclerc than can skate.

If Tangradi can end up like Getzlaf, i will be a very happy guy.
snarktacular 09-11-2007, 06:13 PM Thanks for the reviews. Much appreciated.
So Ryan's skating still sucks. Does it at least look better than before? I think he was injured last training camp so it may be hard to judge. I'd just be a whole lot more comfortable if he at least showed progress since being drafted.
Good to hear that Bertuzzi looks OK. Although that was probably to be expected. My worry is more that the back will flare up during the season more than it being still bad now.
It'd be great if Huskins steps it up. Without Niedermayer, our bottom pairing's going to be playing a lot more this year, Huskins is a prime target for improvement there. Although I'm not sure I like my defensemen doing spin-o-ramas.
TheJoeMan 09-11-2007, 06:35 PM How Joey, how about Bolt? I have heard glowing reviews about him as well. Any other players who really caught your eye?

He looked real good too. Freaking HUGE and skates pretty well. Had a nice goal during the scrimmage. I'd say he'll definitely get a shot with the big club one day. Also this is the third camp I've seen him in and he's progressed nicely.
If Tangradi can end up like Getzlaf, i will be a very happy guy.
Effort-wise reminded me of Getzlaf. Doesn't have his hands though, or at least didn't display that he did.
So Ryan's skating still sucks. Does it at least look better than before? I think he was injured last training camp so it may be hard to judge. I'd just be a whole lot more comfortable if he at least showed progress since being drafted.
I thought his skating was fine last year. He skates hard and gets from point A to point B fast enough. It's not pretty when he does it but who cares as long he gets there. It's just not pretty to watch and can look like lazy skating with an untrained eye. It's just he's really top heavy so he can be pushed off the puck a little too easy. But, he did look pretty good behind the net which is an improvement. If can hold his own along the corner boards he'll be totally fine.
But the thing is he is still effective regardless. The longer he sticks with this team the better he'll be. It's just a matter if he can put up points which I believe he can, especially with right linemates. He has great vision, very soft hands and a quick release. Take my word for it, this kid will be a good NHL player. Will he be great NHLer? Maybe. Will be our best player eventually? Probably not if Getzy sticks around a while (who is going to be sick this year, I can see it already). Will he ever live up to the player taken after Crosby title? Doubt it. But he doesn't need to. He just needs to be the best he can for this team and I think he's coming along well.
TheJoeMan 09-11-2007, 07:11 PM Another thing of note. Bertuzzi lined up on the right side the whole practice and scrimmage. Anyone thinking he'll fill Penner's spot on the PPG line will be disappointed. He'll be a RW for sure.
BowDown2Chistov 09-11-2007, 09:40 PM I dunno about ryan, I went to the other rink that ryan was on for most of practice and he looked really green out there. He hustles no doubt and his skating isent phenom but the way he got knocked off pucks so easy was dissapointing. He had a real nice goal on one drill where drates sent him a long outlet pass and he put it 5-hole on hiller, other then that he just got knocked around and he would just eat it out of no where too but I guess thats where the skating thing comes in. I really hope he turns it around.
Todd B looked great I wasent sure what to expect from him but he deffinetly looks to be back in the game, a few times I could see he was dealing with some pain but I didnt seem to effect his play.
giggy was skating before practice shooting around he looked like he still needs some time to heal.
hoffman was huge and skates very well needs work with the stick but can really move. He lookes taller then penner, skates better and faster but penner was wider and has better hands. I hope too see him play down the line.
LaCouture is really the new version of thorton but I would have rather had thorton. He doesent have a lot of offensive tallent.
Parros looked like he has improved in his all around game skating great and passing was nice, goes hard to the net, like moen improved last year.
and the one I went too see Kondratiev, he lost the puck more times then I would have liked to have seen but can pass to anyone anywhere he somehow gets the puck to where it needs to go. I didnt like how he avoided alot of hits in the begining but he got more tuff as time went. I took marchant down on one play and then got a big elbow to the head from ToddB but got right back up. I dunno though whos gonna get that last spot.

My friend also went and said he was playing hard and that his speed isn't necessarily slow it's just his skating stride looks sloppy. He said that he's outstanding with the puck, needs work away from it and has special vision and overall playmaking ability. I guess the best way to judge where hes at is the upcoming preseason games.
My friend also agreed with others that Bertuzzi looks great and he agrees with me that Bolt is someone to watch for with his combination of speed size and aggressiveness ;)
Theridion 09-11-2007, 11:23 PM I won't see Ryan until thursday's preseason game against the kings, but here's my thoughts.
There's no doubt he has skill, fine. Anyone drafted high, or maybe even drafted at all has skills of some sort. What makes and breaks players is everything BUT skill. Its their on-ice IQ. Where to be with and without the puck, when to make a play, and effort. You can have great vision and good hands, but if you are constantly behind the play or you lack good positioning, I don't care how good your 'skills' are.
There's thousands of skilled players who never made it in the NHL because they just never worked the above stuff out.
That being said, I could care less about speed. I'd trade a fast player any day for a guy who was strong on the puck and could cycle. Hopefully Ryan can pick that part of his game up.
I am not a Ryan fan, I hope he can change that Thursday!
S.S. Giggy 09-12-2007, 02:05 AM Well, the board play and cycling the puck down low was what won us the Cup last year.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 09-12-2007, 02:31 AM How did Schneider look?
Lyons71 09-12-2007, 04:55 AM Decent i guess. He's a pretty small guy compared to most the team. He took a shot to the foot and looked stung by it. Hopefully it wasn't anything bad. Maybe joe can fill you in better than me...
TheJoeMan 09-12-2007, 01:36 PM Schneider looked alright, nothing too special. He's good though, don't get me wrong but he wasn't flashy or anything. Which for a d-man I guess is a good thing. Than again there weren't any PP drills so we've yet to see his real talents.
snarktacular 09-12-2007, 01:44 PM How did Schneider look?
For some stupid reason I blanked out and thought you were talking about the rookie tryout Andy Schneider and wondered why in the world you cared about him. Duh.
zetterberg40 09-12-2007, 11:39 PM how has beauchemin looked?
emagdnim 09-12-2007, 11:44 PM how has beauchemin looked?
decent...not as sloppy as o'donnell (sp?)
schneider is joining the rush whenever he can
bertuzzi looks great out there.
Randall Graves* 09-13-2007, 02:41 AM I was reading some quotes on the internet it sounds like we'll see alot of Bobby Ryan in the pre season, on MVN there's an article where there are a few comments from Carlyle about him that are pretty positive.
Alot of prospects will be playing tomorrow. Wish I could go.
wildcat48 09-13-2007, 08:41 AM Miller, Carter ready for action
ANAHEIM, Calif. — It was a short summer for Drew Miller and Ryan Carter following big rookie seasons.
After spending the AHL season with the Portland Pirates, both forwards made their NHL debuts playing for Anaheim in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
"It took about a week to let the body recover, and I got back into working out and getting ready for training camp." Carter said. "Winning the Stanley Cup made it easier to look forward and take a short summer. It keeps you motivated."

ANAHEIM, Calif. — After spending the last two years playing junior hockey, Bobby Ryan appears more than ready to embark on his first full pro season.
Ryan, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2005 NHL draft behind Sidney Crosby, spent most of his summer preparing for training camp and his first chance to make a favorable impression on the Anaheim Ducks' coaching staff.

AnThGrt 09-13-2007, 12:47 PM Hey not trying to troll or anything of that sort. Was just wondering what the goalie situation is supposed to be. I looked around in a few threads and couldn't find anything, was wondering if people expect Bryzgalov to still be traded, Hiller to be in the minors or ?
I just remember Hiller being praised quite highly and wanted to check up and see how he was doing. Hoping for a good match-up tonight going to the game.

what's interesting is that Ryan, Kunitz, and Getzlaf will be on the 1st line

I think the Ducks still have plans on moving Bryzgalov, but there isn't a market for him right now. So the Ducks are force to keep him and use him as the back up. Hiller will be in Portland and will play as the number one goaltender until Bryzgalov is dealt. At that point Hiller could be recalled or the Ducks may just sign another goaltender....It really depends on the cap situation at that time.
As for the ranking order behind that I think it will be Coleman, Levasseur and Goepfert fighting for back up role in Portland and the two spots available in Augusta.

Only one spot is available in Augusta, Wildcat----did you forget Augusta also has former Ducks' prospect Nathan Marsters on the Lynx as the veteran there, the other spot is for the contracted Anaheim prospect.
wildcat48 09-13-2007, 04:51 PM Yes, Hutch I know about Marsters being signed, but the Ducks will take precedent over who plays in Augusta and especially in goal. That's why they are the affiliate. If they send two goaltenders then Augusta will take two goaltenders and Marsters will be released or assigned to another team.
AnThGrt 09-13-2007, 05:42 PM Thanks for the information. Will be interesting seeing where Bryzgalov goes, love his personality haha.

Oh god please no injuries before the season even starts
Also I like your avatar, glad you enjoy some of my nations best :)

That's not the precedent Anaheim has done and there's no reason the Ducks will do that so don't keep putting wrong information out there Wildcat---unless you hear the agreement has been changed regarding how players are assigned to Augusta---the agreement that was in place last season continues otherwise Marsters should've been in Augusta, not Laredo when he was under contract.
wildcat48 09-13-2007, 08:36 PM So Hutch....Tell me oh wise one. :sarcasm:
Where will the goalies go?
Marsters is signed by Augusta and you say he will stay there regardless of what the Ducks do so tell me where will Levasseur, Coleman, Goepfert go.....Oh please enlighten me because I must be spreading false information. :sarcasm: :shakehead:

Essentially who is not otherwise released in Portland of the three mentioned (this depends on if Dineen wants to carry three. All I want you to do is not spread falsehoods about the Lynx.
As I understand it, the contract between Augusta and Anaheim called for 1 goalie and any player already signed by the Lynx(this includes Marsters) was told by Coach Ferguson that they are a part of the team. Whomever Anaheim sends to the Lynx is expected to learn from Marsters, and whomever the Ducks send there is in addition to the core players.
Look at it as this: We know we're likely going to see Eric Weinrich, and two or three others not under Anaheim contract are Portland's responsibility. Unless we know there's been a change in the contract between Augusta and Anaheim, the contract that was in place should the Pirates elect to use the Lynx is the same as it has been the last couple of years.
Why should the Lynx suffer w/ two or more inexperienced or rookie goalies as Levasseur and Goephert are in terms of experience.
Weren't u glad you have a veteran goalie to lean on if the rookie fails to adjust to the level of competition and his confidence isn't where it should be (think Mike Wall when he first arrived here).

Hutch,
You irritate me to no end.......After read your post I feel like hitting myself in the head with a hammer or poking my eyes out with an ice pick.
I am done discussing this with you....we will see what happens with training camp is over.
Heavy Hussar 09-13-2007, 10:36 PM its great to hear bobby getting some positive comments in this camp. Im really pullin for him, he was a great player to watch in scaha. id like seeing him paired with getzy and a vet....hmmmm...bertuzzi?

Man, I feel bad for anyone that has to learn part of playing goalie from Marsters...
wildcat48 09-16-2007, 03:32 PM I don't think we'll have to worry about that, but to avoid an argument....I'll just camp play itself out.
francklem 09-21-2007, 02:39 PM Can someone tell me about Matt Auffrey ?
Fortius 09-21-2007, 03:49 PM And some info on Brett Skinner as well please!
CHRDANHUTCH 09-21-2007, 04:54 PM And some info on Brett Skinner as well please!
Wildcat and the Pirates site if not some Calgary fans would be your best bet Loquacious, since Skinner did finish the year w/ CGY on loan
Bruins78 09-24-2007, 11:57 AM Bruins fan here....just curious why Bryce Swan is not listed on your pre-season roster? Wondering if he is hurt again? He seems like one of those guys who will eventually stay healthy and surprise a lot of people...kind of a smaller power forward who could pot 30 goals with the right linemates.
Curious what your opinions of him are...and with the injury to Scneider and the absence/retirement of Niedermayer a reminder that my Bruins have a boatload of #5/#6 d-man that we could offer for Swan :naughty: Thanks
