More surprising of the two eventsUnthinkable 01-06-2004, 12:17 PM Which event surprised you more yesterday.... MissionHockey 01-06-2004, 12:40 PM I voted for Pete Rose but to be honest, neither really surprised me. It seemed a matter of time after he was tempted that he could go to the HoF if he did and USA hadn't lost a game all tournament. It was theirs to lose. PEli* 01-06-2004, 12:59 PM With Canada placing second two years in a row against Russia, I wasn't surprised to see the favorites beat the Canadians yesterday. Disappointing because of the lead but not surprising. Every Canadian should have been fully aware of the talent the US team had. The Rose situation is iffy. Everybody knew he bet on baseball. It was just a matter of him admitting to it. I believe that he did not bet against the Reds though. He's HoF worthy but considering baseball is run by a bunch of fat, rich guys, he'll probably never live to see himself inducted. It would be a shame but no surprise to me. I voted for the Rose situation. I guess I never really thought he'd admit to it. Ronnie Bass 01-07-2004, 11:15 AM You know at the beginning years ago when Rose got suspended I was very sympathetic to his cause. Now as I hear more about what he did and the non-stop lies this guy is spewing I hope they never let this ******* in the H of F. This guy has less shame than Bill Clinton. I agree with everything except the jab at Bill. :p I'm so sick of Pete Rose. But instead of babbling on and on with sentiments repeated over anmd over, I'll just say I agree 100% with what Peter Gammons had to say on the issue. I think he sums up the situation perfectly: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1701992 Oh, I voted for Canada losing the WJC, by the way... I think he sums up the situation perfectly: Great article, and I think the tide is turning on him as far as people voting him in, if he thinks he's a shoo-in for the H of F if he gets reinstated I think he's in for a huge shock. Unthinkable 01-07-2004, 12:13 PM I'm just thoroughly disgusted over Pete Rose hyping a new book to finally come clean and profit even further from his lies. Unbelievable stuff there. So shameless. One of the local NY papers had a poll today on baseball writers opinions on this and its pretty clear many of them no longer support having him reinstated after this. Yup, and as Gammons wrote, there's no chance in hell the Veterans Committee votes him in, which after next year is his only shot. Good riddance. Unthinkable 01-07-2004, 01:34 PM Yup, and as Gammons wrote, there's no chance in hell the Veterans Committee votes him in, which after next year is his only shot. Good riddance. I have a really tough time buying his claims that he never once bet against his own team. Seems pretty logical that its far easier to throw a game in baseball then it is to win one and you'd easily have dozens of chances over 8 innings to throw the proverbial wrench into the machine to gain extra $$$ with simple roster moves and quick pulls off the mound. If someone is a compulsive gambler its hard to really fathom they'd have a difficult time betting against something they have full control over which Rose did. Crazy that he still insists he never did this. Read one AP report today from a guy who says he used to take bets from Rose and he maintained the phone calls were made from the teams clubhouse every day. | ||
