Another Dumb Move From The Gauthier Era...

May 23, 2000:

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim traded Trent Hunter to the New York Islanders for a 4th round selection (previouly acquired - Jonas Ronnqvist) in 2000.

And what's Trent Hunter doing today? Why, he's on pace for a 35 goal season. Wouldn't that look good on this team? By the way, what has Ronnqvist done for us lately?

It was a minor deal at the time. You should probably blame the scouting staff for being willing to give him up.

Unless the goat overrided them, or never asked.

You could also blame them for not taking Datsyuk in the same round. Hindsight is a biatch.

Or Getzlaf over Stewart.

Or Getzlaf over Stewart.

Its a bit early to be calling either player better right now. Until both have made it to the NHL for a while then we'll see whos better. I wanted Stewart as well with that pick but Getzlaf had a good camp and maybe he can build on that next season, whenever that is, and become a solid player. Maybe a better one than Stewart.

Watching the two at the WJC made me sad.

I'm pretty happy with the pick of Getzlaf. When I saw Parise going down in the selection I hoped to have him (even if the Ducks needed big guys), then my preference went to Getzlaf.
I'm not so excited about Stewart but we'll see next year.

Trent Hunter refused to sign with the Ducks and was well prepared to go back into the draft. Gauthier must had lowballed the offer.

Or Getzlaf over Stewart.

I'm not even a Duck fan, and I'd take Getzlaf over Stewart if the draft were held right now. I think Getzlaf has a higher ceiling and is a surer bet to make an impact in the NHL.

Everyone has their take.

All I have to go on is the reviews I've read on each player and the few hours I've seen of the WJC.

Seeing as how just about everybody was off base on Lupul in terms of his skating and physical play, I'm not all that inclined to believe what I've read about Getzlaf.

As you know by now, I was at the WJC and saw most of the action in Helsinki, and I'd throw in a 2nd rounder to get Getzlaf instead of Stewart any day of the week. Getz' was one of Canada's top forwards, along with Carter and Dawes (who to me was a big suprise in the games). There's no doubt in my mind that we got the better player of Getzlaf/Stewart.

I was a big fan of Lupul's, and I see a lot of similar tendencies from Lupul's game in Getzlaf. It wouldn't surprise me if he's ready for the NHL next year. He's made a lot of progress quickly.

I feel the same, even if almost no one noticed the very good WJC Getzlaf had (partially due to the SILVER medal).

Well, everyone has his favourite.
