Ducks_è_Halos 08-24-2007, 03:34 AM Official Release Here (http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=336256) I'm going to try and go, anyone else planning on it? I want to go. I'll have to try and get tix. How fast do these things usually sell out (if they sell out...)? McDonald19 08-24-2007, 09:52 PM Is the Pacific Division Prospect Tournament still happening? Kevin Forbes 08-24-2007, 10:06 PM Is the Pacific Division Prospect Tournament still happening? No. It's cancelled, in part due to the games in London. CHRDANHUTCH 08-24-2007, 10:32 PM I wouldn't say cancelled completely, Kevin, it sounds like the way you worded that as if the Rookie Challenge Round Robin Tournament would never return. kurt 08-24-2007, 11:43 PM I'd appreciate some scouting reports on Andrew Ebbett, if some of you wouldn't mind keeping tabs on him a little for me. I wish I was down in the area. CHRDANHUTCH 08-25-2007, 10:57 AM I'd appreciate some scouting reports on Andrew Ebbett, if some of you wouldn't mind keeping tabs on him a little for me. I wish I was down in the area. I don't believe Ebbett's a rookie. Kevin Forbes 08-25-2007, 11:41 AM Ebbett is listed as playing on the Rookie Games Roster: http://ducks.nhl.com/ext/RookieGamesRoster.pdf Big Daddy 08-25-2007, 03:04 PM Any reports on Festerling and Mikkelson would be great! I think Festerling will develop into a strong shutdown guy for you guys in a couple of years. Not so sure about Mikkelson, he had a lot of mental lapses in Vancouver last season. The guy can definetly motor, hopefully he rounds out his game. Bulls guy 08-25-2007, 10:55 PM Any info on Beleskey and Tangradi would be appreciated as well. Ducksforcup 08-26-2007, 12:40 AM yea i cant open the roster, does anybody know if tangradi is playing in it? Tangradi is indeed playing. So will Festerling, Beleskey and Mikkelson. Glad to have ya on board. :) Tangradi seems like a neat (and talented) guy! :) thanks, yea i never got to meet him but i have seen him play. hes a normal kid. he still keeps in touch with all his friends from home and updates them on what he is doing. he is a real nice kid. i found a nice article on the belleville bulls site http://www.bellevillebulls.com/TangradiUSACamp.html he got invited to the USA junior evaluation camp, so he might play for the US National Junior team in december. that would be neat to see and he is doing pretty good too, he has a goal 2 assists and 10 pims in 6 games Aceface 08-26-2007, 04:31 PM Anyone know why Mark Mitera isn't on the roster? Aeryn 08-26-2007, 05:06 PM He's not leaving school yet, is he? Sojourn 08-26-2007, 05:29 PM He's not leaving school yet, is he? Pretty sure that's correct. Listen to Red. She knows. Aceface 08-26-2007, 06:19 PM He's not leaving school yet, is he? He's not leaving school yet, but I don't think that would have much to do with why he wouldn't be on this roster.....or would have school started allready??? Aeryn 08-26-2007, 06:29 PM He's not leaving school yet, but I don't think that would have much to do with why he wouldn't be on this roster.....or would have school started allready??? For one, yeah, I think school will have started by then. But I think there's also something about maintaining NCAA eligibility and having to pay his own way. That being said, I was surprised to see him at conditioning camp in July, so who knows. (which I realize completely contradicts Sojy's praises) ;) Edit: Classes begin on the 4th, same day rookie camp opens. Aceface 08-26-2007, 08:09 PM For one, yeah, I think school will have started by then. So, we can guess the reason he isn't on the roster is because of school.....just wondering. Aceface 08-29-2007, 12:14 AM Anyone know why Brett Skinner, or Petteri Wirtanen aren't playing? luckoftheduck 08-29-2007, 12:31 AM Anyone know why Brett Skinner, or Petteri Wirtanen aren't playing? Wirtanen isn't a rookie...played in Portland last year. Same with Skinner. EDIT: I'm wrong I don't know. CHRDANHUTCH 08-29-2007, 03:33 PM Wirtanen isn't a rookie...played in Portland last year. Same with Skinner. EDIT: I'm wrong I don't know. you're correct, luck. There was no need to have edited that:) Kevin Forbes 08-29-2007, 03:45 PM It's not just whether or not they are a rookie, as guys like Salcido, Ebbett, Carter, Miller and especially Coleman would not be listed if it were. Previously, it was games experience or something along those lines, but again that doesn't explain the difference between choosing some of the players who played last season in the AHL and not others. My guess is it's just preference, Carter, Miller and Salcido are probably the closest of the AHL guys to competing for roster spots in Anaheim, so looking at them as closely as possible as much as possible is key. Ebbett is new to the organization, so seeing what he brings to the table is nice. Coleman fills out the last goalie spot due to numbers. Aceface 08-29-2007, 07:03 PM Really? thats intresting if it is just preferance.....I for one would rather see Skinner, and Wirtanen than some of the other guys......but in any case I look forward to the rookie games I got tickets for both days. :) Mooseduck 08-30-2007, 04:00 PM These should be some interesting games. Too bad the Rookie Tourney has been suspended for the London games. I understand tickets are selling well due to the sudden influx of new Duck fans. lwvs84 08-30-2007, 04:27 PM I wonder what the chance would be of getting tickets that day. I really won't be able to make it to Anaheim any sooner than that weekend  McDonald19 09-08-2007, 02:39 PM So who is going to the game tonight? Per Lady Stanley on the Sharks board. She was at the game. dafranchz 09-09-2007, 02:55 AM Yeah it ended 2-1 Sorry..I had to get an interview. The last SJ goal was Couture from McGinn and Setoguchi The lone Anaheim goal was scored Schneider from Ryan and Mikkelson. From my view, it looked like Schneider's shot was deflected by Miller. So I'm going to say it Miller from Schneider and Ryan. Randall Graves* 09-09-2007, 03:30 AM Mikkelson was good, the dude has obvious skill and made good decisions. Ryan seemed like he didn't care but at the same time could have had 4 more assists. These kinds of games don't really do anything for him in terms of gauging his progress. Miller looks like a man against these guys would not be surprised if he sees quite a bit of time this year in the NHL. This is the jist of what my friend sent me, Teemu was there and some one more year chants busted out. Interesting he'd show up when you know he'd get thatkind of treatment. kurt 09-09-2007, 04:54 AM How did Andrew Ebbett fare? dafranchz 09-09-2007, 05:22 AM How did Andrew Ebbett fare? He was okay...threw the body around. Nothing particular, but he didn't have a bad game. Bulls guy 09-09-2007, 10:16 AM How did Beleskey and Tangradi look? I have never been to a rookie game due they line match or just roll 4 lines? funshine720 09-09-2007, 12:09 PM Does anyone know if it was Coleman or Lavasseur who was in goal? And how they did? Ducksforcup 09-09-2007, 02:06 PM Does anyone know if it was Coleman or Lavasseur who was in goal? And how they did? Coleman was in goal. He played fairly well according to what I have seen...just that San Jose's goaltender was really good. Kevin Forbes 09-09-2007, 02:07 PM Coleman was in goal. Some interesting things to note: former Ducks prospect Luke Fritshaw was playing for the Sharks as is Aaron Rome's brother, Ashton. Also interesting that MacMillan and Macenauer did not play. MacMillan was a bit dinged up when he left Halifax for camp, while the last news I heard on Macenauer, he was still rehabbing from offseason surgery. Silver 09-09-2007, 02:54 PM Ryan looked bad again. Geez, unless that was a bad night for him, his career upside might be to hit Chistov numbers. The way it looks right now, he's going to end up being the answer to a trivia question. He was totally useless 5 on 5. You can say that these games don't mean anything, but last year Kopitar did something impressive every time he was on the ice. Ryan managed to get into a fight and only drop one of his gloves...I imagine Burke had to down a bottle of whiskey last night to get to sleep after seeing that. dafranchz 09-09-2007, 04:53 PM How did Beleskey and Tangradi look? I have never been to a rookie game due they line match or just roll 4 lines? Beleskey didn't catch my eye but Tangradi did. He looked a bit out of place. I don't know if he was trying to over do it but he really needs to work on his skating. He likes to throw the body and work the boards and the corners. He needs to learn to keep his feet moving. When he stops, he becomes absolutely ineffective and was caught off balance so much. Decent with the puck but that needs improvement too. Raw...very raw. Mr_Jones* 09-09-2007, 05:59 PM When does the game start today and how/where do I get tickets if I need them? funshine720 09-09-2007, 05:59 PM Coleman was in goal. He played fairly well according to what I have seen...just that San Jose's goaltender was really good. Are you going to see the game tonight too? I am a huge Coleman fan and am intrested in knowing how he does and who they have play tonight. Can't wait for them to come back to Portland. Hoping someone going tonight might be able to take notes for me. :) SanJoseCanadiens 09-09-2007, 06:06 PM Any reports on the Sharks prospects? Especially that top line (couture, Mcginn, Setoguchi)... and especially since M and C already have chemistry, I'd expect to here something about them and at a tournament like this where everybody else is struggling to achieve any sort of team cohesion Aceface 09-09-2007, 06:35 PM How did Beleskey and Tangradi look? I have never been to a rookie game due they line match or just roll 4 lines? Beleskey was one of the most impresive guys I saw out there, i thought he looked great. He had a couple of good scoring chances and also put in a couple of nice hits. I don't know why people are giving Ryan such a hard time I thought he looked great out there he put some nice tape to tape passes but his linemates couldn't seem to finish. he was also putting a nice screen on the goalie when the ducks scored the goal. I think people just like giving him a hard time, cause I was really impressed with his play. Marco Corleone 09-09-2007, 10:29 PM How's Brett Morrison been looking? Thanks!!! Big Daddy 09-10-2007, 12:06 AM Mikkelson and Festerling update? How about Valach and Sexsmith from the Sharks? Thanks. Sevat 09-10-2007, 12:24 AM How's Brett Morrison been looking? Thanks!!! He looked okay, is pretty rough around the edges, but looks like a potential third line center one day. Hustles, but seemed a bit lost at times. Mikkelson and Festerling update? How about Valach and Sexsmith from the Sharks? Thanks. Mikkelson and Festerling were very impressive. Mikkelson and Salcido were our best d-men. Festerling had a few nice, crisp passes and a great hit or two. Valach, for his size, is somewhat cautious it seems. A gentle giant of sorts. He had good movement though and looks like he's got some solid years ahead of him. Sexsmith was good when he had to be, but nothing spectacular. Very impressive for a guy just drafted though, he held his own. Big Daddy 09-10-2007, 12:30 AM Thanks MT! Good to hear, Festerling can lay the wood. I had my doubts about Sexsmith at the beginning of last year but the kid can handle the workload. Sevat 09-10-2007, 12:46 AM My thoughts on the players: FORWARDS Drew Miller - You could tell he has played in the NHL before. He still looks the same, not much improvement, which isn't that bad of a thing, but I expected him to play with more confidence. Andrew Ebbett - Ryan Shannon part two minus the insane stickhandling skills. Small, fast, feisty, and that's about it. Ryan Dingle - Tries to hit, but rarely gets a good one. Hustles, but like Ebbett, is just fast and a pest out there, nothing spectacular from him or Ebbett. Ryan Carter - Seemed to be confident. Was hitting, playing hard, but seemed to be holding back a little. Still, he seems to have some untapped potential. Had some nice moves. Bobby Ryan - Embarrassing that this guy is supposed to be our number one prospect. The only way he'll play in the NHL this year is if he does a complete turn around. Looked lazy, confused, slow. Has skills, no question, and size, but rarely uses either. Only showed his true colors once or twice. Eric Tangradi - For a guy who just got drafted, I was impressed. Not as physical as he could have been, but he's got great hockey sense. Pretty quick for his size as well. Matt Auffrey - Works hard, hits, likes to be everywhere. Seems to have some potential there. I'm thinking a Travis Moen type. Matt Beleskey - A thicker Chris Kunitz. Hits hard, loves hitting, hustles his ass off, and loves hockey (so it seems). I look forward to seeing what else this guy can do. Bobby Bolt - Really was impressive. For his size, he hustled hard, had some great speed, and was very intelligent with the puck. He looks like he could be a force if he gets some practice as a power forward type. Brett Morrison - My earlier post: "He looked okay, is pretty rough around the edges, but looks like a potential third line center one day. Hustles, but seemed a bit lost at times." Matt Christie - Is small, but quite goods at faceoffs and has excellent speed and can really get around guys. Not sure what his potential is though. Bryce Swan - I'm not sure what to think. I had heard he was a real tough one to play against, but he didn't hit that much, wasn't a pest, and didn't have the puck that much. He seemed a bit lost at times. DEFENSE Adrian Veideman - Never heard of this guy. Wasn't anything special, but looks like he could one day be a alright 6/7 d-man. Had some heads-up plays. Brett Festerling - From other post: "Festerling had a few nice, crisp passes and a great hit or two." He was quite impressive, looked a lot better than most. Brian Salcido - Hands down the best defenseman out there. Was quick, smooth, smart, made great passes and took smart shots. This guy ought to get a look in training camp. Brendan Mikkelson - Another impressive blueliner. Secondto Salcido. Has some great hockey sense and looks to one day be a possibly power play QB who can play some 3/4 minutes. John de Gray - A gentle giant. Had the size and strenght to dominate, but rarely did. Was smart, had okay movement for his lanky, but large size. I would have liked to see his shot a bit more. Andy Schneider - Great player. Has a lot of potential. Made plenty of great outlet passes. GOALIES J.P. Levasseur - Scary to watch at times. Has trouble with rebounds and staying with the puck. Got caught swimming a few times, but seemed to keep it out in some tense moments. Not sure what to make of him. Ducksforcup 09-10-2007, 01:29 AM Thanks for the update! :) It looks like they may keep Schneider around a little longer. :) jax00 09-10-2007, 02:04 AM To think that we could have had JJ... Jerky Leclerc 09-10-2007, 03:36 AM To think that we could have had JJ... You mean this guy? http://www.classicrock969.com/ManageFolder/images/dynomite.jpg Randall Graves* 09-10-2007, 03:55 AM I was there this time.. Ryan has obvious talent but he is either lazy, unmotivated or out of shape. He has his moments where he shows you his talent, but seems to get frustrated when he'll make a good pass or whatever and the guy flubs it or does nothing. He did play better with more seasoned guys in Miller and Carter late in the game but his shift to shift effort/attitude has to get better. Bolt infact was way more impressive, he looks like he could have some powerforward type potential. I'd watch for him at training camp and in Portland this year. Beleskey he's a sparkplug like Kunitz if his offense continues to improve he will be a steal. Tangredi is big, like his instincts, not sure if he's going to be a physical player, if he is he'll be a good one. Salcido..my first time seeing him, never thought much but he was really good, he's small but he's quick and skilled. Dipenta and Drats better watch out. Mikkelson, was the 2nd best D after Salcido, he needs to get bigger but has some nice talent especially his hands and skating. Festerling, nice safe stay at home D I hope he breaks into Portlands lineup and see how good he really is. LeVassuer is a work in progress left some big rebounds. Teemu was in the building again very interesting he's even at these kind of games considering his status. Static 09-10-2007, 04:07 AM I am so glad we took Bobby Ryan instead of Anze Kopitar. He played hard for us all last year in Portland. I was hoping to hear more good news about Carter and Miller as well. They were a couple of Portlands top scorers last season. Hopefully as they play together more they can pull something together. Randall Graves* 09-10-2007, 03:26 PM I am so glad we took Bobby Ryan instead of Anze Kopitar. Or Jack Johnson. Or Carey Price. I just find it strange that Burke, considering what he looks for in players, took a guy that takes so much motivation to play up to his potential. That part of the situation doesnt equate. wildcat48 09-10-2007, 03:34 PM Schneider’s scores goal while trying to reach his goalSchneider, on a tryout with the Ducks, is still trying to recover from missing all of last with a wrist injury. He recently signed a late off-season deal with the Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL, but for him, it’s still a goal of getting back into a rhythm with the hopes of one day playing in the NHL.Read More>>>> (http://http://mvn.com/ahl-pirates/2007/09/09/schneiders-scores-goal-while-trying-to-reach-his-goal/) This kid has had a tough start to his pro career. He was standout for UND, but suffered several wrist injuries which he just couldn't overcome. He looks to be fairly strong and is ready to play a physical game....If he gets a shot with Portland and can stay healthy, he could be a rising star. TheJoeMan 09-10-2007, 05:13 PM I just find it strange that Burke, considering what he looks for in players, took a guy that takes so much motivation to play up to his potential. That part of the situation doesnt equate. I wouldn't put too much stock into his performance during these two scrimmages (which they basically were). For a kid who knows he's going to be in the main camp, he doesn't need to overexert himself, especially considering how short training camp is this year. He worked hard last camp but was a ways behind. If can put in the same effort or better he'll be fine. But what we need to stop doing is dwelling on what the pick could have been. This is our prospect, we may not end being the second best player taken in that draft but he'll be a good player. Let's just be patient. Spankatola Jamnuts 09-10-2007, 05:16 PM Is he going to be in the main camp? He's not on the roster, was it updated? TheJoeMan 09-10-2007, 05:19 PM Is he going to be in the main camp? He's not on the roster, was it updated? He's our top prospect, he has to be. The roster released last week is about 13 names short of the roster last camp. I figure it was so if any particular rookies stood out this past weekend they'd go to the main camp. But Bobby is a shoe-in, I mean how can he not be? If I don't see Bobby Ryan on the ice tomorrow morning I'll eat my shoe. snarktacular 09-10-2007, 08:06 PM I am so glad we took Bobby Ryan instead of Anze Kopitar. Or Jack Johnson. Or Carey Price. Or Marc Staal. Or.................................. Kopitar, I can understand. He's Slovenian, and I think our draft record amply shows our European scouting is less than optimal. Although we did get Smid, so it may be improving. Price is a goalie, I still don't think it's worth taking goalies early. There's just too much uncertainty, and even if they do pan out it's just not worth it contract-wise (in terms of years of RFA and production). Staal wasn't supposed to be that good... and there was only one previous Staal with the now-famed Staal growth, so I can understand passing on him. As for Johnson, I'm still wondering why we didn't pick him. He's not big, but he's decently sized and certainly nasty enough. Burke mentioned Ryan's interview, I wonder if Ryan's interview was really that good or was Johnson's interview just that bad. I'll still give Ryan at least 2 years more slack, just because he's a project pick and I understand that. But man, Kopitar would really look good right now. And besides, the same argument goes against a project pick as with goalies. _h0sehead_ 09-10-2007, 08:54 PM I was at the Saturday game, Teemu, Carlyle, and Burke where all there, Teemu was signing and greeting the fans after the first period, really a great guy, much different from when he first arrive in Anaheim from Winnipeg. We got in a good "one more year" chant. About the ducks rookie team, everyone one look a little dull out there, with exception of the miller carter line. I kinda expected more scoring. Another interesting thing to note is that they were letting the goalies go behind the net, is that because they don't do that in AHL? Ducks 09-10-2007, 09:07 PM I am so glad we took Bobby Ryan instead of Anze Kopitar. Or Jack Johnson. Or Carey Price. Or Marc Staal.
