Markov?

I know he has been brought up before, but according to our good friend Eklund (who I know is not reliable,) Markov is down to 4 teams which includes the Devs. I think he could help out. But I would think a trade would have to be made to make room. Thoughts?

As long as it's a reasonable one-year deal and we trade Matvichuk, I wouldn't have a problem.

Yeah, I'd rather have him than Matty. Does Markov have any history of injury?

I have to agree with stray cat on this one. Its possible to see him in a Devs uniform. I would love too see this deal done.

However, would it be a straight up trade for each? Or would we have to package in a AHL'er? Thoughts anyone?

Hmm I think that we'll wait until the training camp begins, and after that Sutter saw our d-corp, he may tell Lou to strengthen it. Anyways, I don't think that we're gonna sign this guy, there would be then no place for Greene/Oduya.

That would be awesome. All the press will have to get back on our bandwagon instead of the pens.

Trade white and give his salary to markov...;)

He has had 7 injuries in the last 2 years, partly because of his aggressiveness. Again, if the price is right, sign him and trade Oduya or Matvichuk...but I honestly can't see Lou dropping Matvichuk...

I'd love to have him, but it seems weird because then we'd have a glut of dmen.

Though signing him would make any of our other dmen other than Martin expendable in a trade. (And no, White won't be the one traded).

i would like him but not at the expense of matvichuk. if we got him i would want to somehow get rid of rachunek

You want to get rid of the right-handed shooting offensive defenseman instead of the broken down stay-at-homer who will be lucky to play more than 55-60 games this season? Adding Markov and not ridding of Matvichuk is a redundant move. The defense will be even more devoid of offense is Rachunek is dealt.

i think you are exaggerating a little bit, your making it sound like rachunek is the next rafalski, and markov is an old man who can barely stand. markov is still very capable of being a shut down defenceman and he is only 31. plus he can play on the PP. he may not be as good offensivley as rachunek but he is much more physical and a better defenceman

I was talking about Matvichuk, not Markov.

And Rachunek is not the next Rafalski, but he's currently our best offensive defenseman (based on 06-07 stats). He should post 5-7 goals and 25-30 assists, production that we'll desperately need from the backend.

oh, well in that case your probably right

and i think that martin and greene are going to put up better offensive stats than rachunek

It doesn't really matter if they do/don't. The fact is, with Rafalski's 55 points gone, having an extra offensive blueliner like Rachunek is a necessity (especially for a blueline that struggled to do much even WITH Rafalski).

most of those points were on the PP and only 2 guys get most of the time in the pp, last year it was him and Langs, im not sure who it is going to be this year, but it will probably be martin and somebody. i would like to see andy greene on PP because he and QB it

I have just ine question to ask, and one point to make regarding Danny Markov;

1: If Danny Markov is a cure for a challenged defense, not a symptom, why is he still available? Is he that much of a head-case? Has he (or his agent) priced himself out of the league?

2: Eklund; I believe his rumors the day after the team announces the move, not a minute sooner. ::nono:

Markov is a good defenseman. I'd gather the situation centers around him wanting a multi-year deal while most teams only want him on one-year contracts (due to his tendency to get injured and his past? drinking problems).

You know what I've noticed as a trend on this board? We keep having posts about this or that player would be a good fit for the devils, and then we find out that they are either injured or prone to injury or just plain old and beat up.

Then we have threads that complain about our own players, and we know some of the complains are due to the fact that they are either injured or old and beat up.

This doesn't make any sense. If we already have players like that, why are people suggesting we should get more players like the ones we complain about all the time?

do you know who the other 3 teams who were interested are???. Wings fan here... we had em last year ( obviously ) solid guy, think he'd be a presence in nj. lil more physical than white... can also move the puck... not huge point producer. definitley a defensive defenseman also threw down a few times during the year so you wouldn't need janssen in that role as much.... but, you'd be sacrificing a d-man in the game prob a top 4 guy so yeah i retract. ( let janssen bang away ).
