The Jersey Devil 08-21-2007, 10:46 AM Hey guys, I'm going to meet Gomez and Super Jay Pandolfo today in North Andover, MA. They're going to be at an opening of the first Micro-rink. What do you think I should say to Scott? He is Jay's best friend so I don't want to a complete ****** to him, plus I loved him on the Devs. I just don't know if I can get over the whole signing with NY thing.
What would you do?
Mose Schrute 08-21-2007, 10:48 AM Just ignore him and pretend like you don't know who he is.
cj225 08-21-2007, 10:55 AM There are a lot of mean thoughts going through my head right now, but i'm trying to be nice!!!
Just throw money at him for doing nothing...he seems to like that!
Devilsfanatic 08-21-2007, 10:57 AM I would say get ready for 7 years of being stuck on a 2nd rate team that will NEVER win a Stanley Cup with him on the team meanwhile he can join Holik in watching the Devils win the cup without him and then regretting it.
konic 08-21-2007, 11:05 AM Ask him if he has a C-note you can lite a cigar with.
Das Uber 08-21-2007, 11:07 AM Kick him in the nuts.
cj225 08-21-2007, 11:09 AM Kick him in the nuts.
I was gonna say that!!
Bring a Gomer jersey up, have him sign it, then take him out to the parking lot, douse the jersey with gasoline and burn it and tell him what you really think of him!!!
MoonDragn 08-21-2007, 11:14 AM Get him some golf balls, he's gonna need them now that he's on the Rangers.
The Jersey Devil 08-21-2007, 11:14 AM I was gonna say that!!
Bring a Gomer jersey up, have him sign it, then take him out to the parking lot, douse the jersey with gasoline and burn it and tell him what you really think of him!!!
I actually had that idea. I was going to have him sign something like a devs hat so I could burn it. But that would be a waste a perfectly good devils hat. I'd rather have him sign a rangers jersey and then I'll burn that and laugh and laugh.
Devils9789 08-21-2007, 11:15 AM Get him some golf balls, he's gonna need them now that he's on the Rangers.
Seriously, that would be funny as hell i would do that. :biglaugh:
The Jersey Devil 08-21-2007, 11:19 AM Seriously, that would be funny as hell i would do that. :biglaugh:
I bet even Pandolfo would laugh at that. I think I'll try it.
I want to know how this goes . . .
ALine9900 08-21-2007, 11:24 AM Be really nice.
Chariot 08-21-2007, 11:36 AM Seriously.....ask him a good question.
Ask him if he thinks he'll center for Jagr or Shanny
cj225 08-21-2007, 11:37 AM Be really nice.
I hope you're being sarcastic!!
He doesn't deserve to be treated nicely!
ALine9900 08-21-2007, 11:38 AM I hope you're being sarcastic!!
He doesn't deserve to be treated nicely!
Maybe he'll feel bad ;)
Ask him what he's going to buy first.
DevFan-RU- 08-21-2007, 11:43 AM Stay classy New Jersey
cj225 08-21-2007, 11:45 AM Gomez doesn't deserve my classiness!!
November 14th can't come soon enough!
Chariot 08-21-2007, 11:48 AM I imagine Scott will have to live out this scenario quite a bit in the coming months.
Alcoolique 08-21-2007, 11:54 AM Just don't talk about "Gomez leaving New Jersey, going to New York" Its business.Get over it..
cj225 08-21-2007, 11:56 AM I've always hated Gomez...and my issue with him isn't that he left the Devils for the Rangers, it's the way in which he did it.
He's a $cumbag and a liar...and I have ZERO respect for him!
Alcoolique 08-21-2007, 12:00 PM I've always hated Gomez...and my issue with him isn't that he left the Devils for the Rangers, it's the way in which he did it.
He's a $cumbag and a liar...and I have ZERO respect for him!
Players do it all the time...They lie, so the fans can say " Oh, he'll go out West.."
And Rangers paying him 51.5millions/7years, is just soooo funny...
cj225 08-21-2007, 12:04 PM Players do it all the time...They lie, so the fans can say " Oh, he'll go out West.."

I hope he falls flat on his face and is a complete bust in NY, just like Holik!
Das Uber 08-21-2007, 12:06 PM I've always hated Gomez...and my issue with him isn't that he left the Devils for the Rangers, it's the way in which he did it.

I blame Carlos Gomez.
Hirnalon 08-21-2007, 12:10 PM I really like that golf ball idea, I think you should do that :D Wanna see his face when he gets them:sarcasm:
Drewr15 08-21-2007, 12:32 PM You should do the golf ball thing, I agree. I would have fun with it and be polite and say "scott first let me say thanks for helping us win two stanley cups. And as a thank you gift I would like to give you this 7 year supply of golf balls to help you get through all the long summers in your future." Gomer and Pando are both jokesters and will definitely get a kick out of it. And Pando would bring that story back to the locker room because you handled it classy and funny - if you go in and tell him to f off, or something extreme - you will fall into the "ah some lunatic fan was yelling at gomer" category - there will be plenty of us doing that on nov 14th, don't worry.
just look at jay pandolfo, tell him your a big fan, then look at gomez, look back at jay and say, "i see you brought a ranger." and then just continue gushing over pandolfo.
DevFan-RU- 08-21-2007, 12:48 PM Go with the balls. Err, golf balls.
MoonDragn 08-21-2007, 12:58 PM Seriously, I thought the golf balls would be the best and most polite way to tell Gomez he made a mistake without offending Jay. Plus I remember that last commecial with him playing golf, he'll definately get the reference.
cj225 08-21-2007, 01:14 PM Okay...now that i've eaten and i'm not as grouchy...
I like the golf ball ideas as well! I think it would be priceless!
Gunnar Stahl 30 08-21-2007, 01:17 PM Seriously this is whatg you should do
When you get there make a HUGE deal about seeing Jay and then way you see scott just be like "oh hey Scott" and then go back to about how amazing it is to see Jay
Colin Whites Eye 08-21-2007, 01:41 PM just look at jay pandolfo, tell him your a big fan, then look at gomez, look back at jay and say, "i see you brought a ranger." and then just continue gushing over pandolfo.
+1
DownFromNJ 08-21-2007, 01:45 PM Thank him for so many years of service to the Devils, two Stanley Cups, and great moments, and then tell him that you wish that he never wins a game again.

I wasn't going to be a jerk about it. I'm sure he has a good reason for leaving the devils other than the money thing. Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it though.
AllStarMe 08-21-2007, 01:57 PM I agree with most, the golf ball thing would be hilarious.
Devilsfanatic 08-21-2007, 02:00 PM Tell him "Your douchebaggery knows no bounds"
Henry Killinger 08-21-2007, 02:02 PM Another vote for the golf balls
AllStarMe 08-21-2007, 02:11 PM You could ask him for $160 I spend on my Gomez jersey back for me. It's not like he can't afford it.
Good suggestions, all. I am sure you would all do exactly what you are telling jrsydevil to do.
cj225 08-21-2007, 02:14 PM Honestly I would....I hate him!
Devilsfanatic 08-21-2007, 02:18 PM Good suggestions, all. I am sure you would all do exactly what you are telling jrsydevil to do.
lol you don't know me then. The other day, I was at a baseball game, after the game, I was outside the Skydome and Gregg Zaun the Jays catcher had trouble opening a door to get outside to get a cab, so when he finally got out I told him "Better stick to catching and hire someone to open doors for you."
JLHockeyKnight 08-21-2007, 02:20 PM One of the guys on the Rutgers team ran into him recently, and he said that he left because Lou is really cheap when it comes to money and really strict on the players. I've heard that from other people I know who know his family. So in all honesty, sounds like Lou runs a team where you either love him or hate him, no grey area.
Edit: Before you think I'm busting on Lou, I personally think he's the best GM in the league.
So honestly, I don't blame him for leaving and I don't think you should too. Same with Neids leaving too, can't blame him for wanting to play with his brother.
My point is, regardless that going to the Rangers is the last place he should have gone to, I'd say be respectable. He's played with the Devils long enough where if he felt it was worth dealing with Lou he would have stayed. Even my friend who met him is a hardcore Devils fan and even though he poked fun at him for leaving for the Rangers, he was respectable about it.
cj225 08-21-2007, 02:27 PM I have ZERO respect for him...
Just like Bobby Holik...I didn't like him when he played for us, and I certainly don't like him now!
That's my opinion and you can take it or leave it...but I will NEVER show that man any kind of respect!
Drewr15 08-21-2007, 02:50 PM I wasn't going to be a jerk about it. I'm sure he has a good reason for leaving the devils other than the money thing. Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it though.
yeah sorry, I didn't mean it to say that you were planning to be, it was more going against some of the other advice on here ;). I hate Gomer as much as the next Devil fan but there is a saying - "Leave it on the ice". Being funny about it is the best way to handle it I think.
he could have went anywhere for money, going to the rangers sends a message.
and as usual ignore anyone who is an avery fan when it comes to well, anything. ;)

So basically he left for money. That says it all right there. Really strict with players?
MoonDragn 08-21-2007, 02:57 PM I'm sorry, really cheap?! When you're trying to manage a team and not go over the cap and still have room to bring in other players of calibur you need to be conscious of how much money you are spending. Gomer wasn't producing at a equal level to his then current salary and he wanted more?! If he was in the real world he'd be fired.
Also they make several MILLIONs of dollars. Like whats the difference between 4 mil and 5 mil? so you can buy another mansion? Yacht? This is why I love Brodeur, he took one for the team cause he wanted to see the team win, and knew that if the team does good, he would too. He's my true hero. Not mr future golf champion.

Brodeur is the type of player that would take a pay cut, Gomez is not. When you say what's the difference between 4 and 5 mil, that's $1 million. That is a big amount of money, and no offense but you're saying it like you have $1 million dollars to spare. Gomez also benefits from the deal because he lives in South Orange (I believe) and he doesn't have to deal with moving either. You basically answered your own question with the bolded part. Lou didn't want to spend the money Gomez was asking and it didn't fit into the team. The Rangers were. So Gomez went where the money was. Not all players are about the money. When Gomez filed for arbitration last year, there shouldn't have been a single Devils fan not seeing this coming.
I've also heard Lou is great around management, but incredibly hard on the players, not to trash Lou. Apparently Gomez had a problem with him or he wouldn't have left in the first place.
And I know you hate to admit it, I do too being a Flyers fan, but the Rangers are a great organization, especially management-wise. Not to mention famous. It's no surprise that so many players choose to retire there. I can't really blame him, even though the only thing he could have done worse than going to the Rangers was wear the number 99.
EliasFan 08-21-2007, 03:15 PM Kick him in the nuts.
And then punch him in the face. You can tell him it's from me.

Yeah, a team with 1 cup in the last 40 years and helped cause the lockout (twice) with their ridiculous overspending sure is a great organization. :sarcasm:
Central Jersey Devil 08-21-2007, 03:44 PM I blame Carlos Gomez.
I'm sure that was a big part of it.
JLHockeyKnight 08-21-2007, 04:35 PM Yeah, a team with 1 cup in the last 40 years and helped cause the lockout (twice) with their ridiculous overspending sure is a great organization. :sarcasm:
LOL. Well Gretzky wouldnt have gone there to retire if it wasn't a worth while organization, and he went there when they were still only a decent team. And regardless of their overspending, it's hard to say they helped cause the lockout by it considering they have, and likely always will have one of the highest attendance and TV ratings in the league, so they are selling tickets and earning the money they want to spend.
Drewr15 08-21-2007, 05:03 PM LOL. Well Gretzky wouldnt have gone there to retire if it wasn't a worth while organization, and he went there when they were still only a decent team. Is it that they are a great organization or that they play in the greatest city? I mean really, other than 94, they've had 60 years of no success and that one year they had to borrow half the Oilers to do it. And as far as TV ratings go, on NBC the past two years they have gotten way lower ratings than the Wings or Avs. The Rangers are getting the accolades for NYC. I'm sure they treat their players great but Gretzky went there to play in NY not because of the Rangers being so great. I think there is a difference.
i always say they are one of the worst franchises in sports history. they had decades in which they played with 5 other teams, they had a one in 6 chance of winning the cup, and it turned out o-so-good for them.
NY has a luster. i would think montreal would be the franchise to play for, its the city and the audience.
but this isnt the thread for that. :D
HBK27 08-21-2007, 05:46 PM Lou is really cheap with the money and yet he spends up to (and some people would argue over last year) the cap limit. Would Gomez rather have Lou give everyone a raise and reduce the amount of talent on the team in the process?
Elias to Parise 08-21-2007, 05:49 PM i always say they are one of the worst franchises in sports history. they had decades in which they played with 5 other teams, they had a one in 6 chance of winning the cup, and it turned out o-so-good for them.

Gretzky went there to play because it is the so called "Mecca" or the so called "Worlds Most Famous Arena" and it is in NYC.
Not because it is a worthwhile organization that has 6 Division Titles since existence and that is also inclusive of the fact that for more then 1/2 of the franchises history there were only 5 other teams.
The team has one Cup since Jet Aviation, Color Television and Pearl Harbor.
Gretzky wanted to go there because there is this wide notion that the Rangers are the Yankees of hockey when in reality they are the laughing stock of hockey.
From a history perspective. No denying now that the Rangers have a good farm club with good prospects, a great goalie and a very competitive team next season.
devsfan8 08-21-2007, 05:53 PM IF I ran into Jay and Gomez I would go up to Pando and offer him a handshake and tell him I am a big fan and talk with him about stuff and totally blow off Gomez.
I intend on throwing dollar bills on the ice when the Rangers come out for warmups at the Rock the first time they come out there.
borrachon 08-21-2007, 06:18 PM Since Scott seems so happy to be out of the living hell that is playing for the Devils, ask him if he will be giving his Cup rings back.
goin2hell 08-21-2007, 06:32 PM I am leaning towards the nut kicking idea.

Lied about what? They didn't even offer him a contract. He should sign
with Vancouver out of respect for them, for much less money?
The golf ball one is kinda funny, the rest of the responses are trashy and would
probably catch you a beating from Jay Pandolfo. Maybe you all should all get up
in Jay Pandolfo's face for hanging out with him... the guys take it less seriously
than the fans, apparently.
If they lose, he'll take the brunt of it, that's the price he has to pay for signing
the contract.
Muttley 08-21-2007, 08:42 PM They're going to be at an opening of the first Micro-rink.
What's Micro-rink?
One of the guys on the Rutgers team ran into him recently, and he said that he left because Lou is really cheap when it comes to money and really strict on the players.
Oh come on. This Rutgers player just so happened to run into Scott Gomez who then went on the record and confided in a total stranger, in which he just met, that he feels Lou is "cheap".
Somehow I don't believe that Scott Gomez, who has known what Lou is all about over the last 10 years, would say something like that now. :shakehead
Yeah right.
JLHockeyKnight 08-21-2007, 08:52 PM What's Micro-rink?

Yeah right.
He ran into him in a bagel shop early in the morning in West Orange. Here's his post.
"well every morning i go to this bagel store in west orange for breakfast . so im waiting in line and this guy who is shorter than me with a shaved head and scruffy face walks in. i do a double take then look at him again . then the words came out of my mouth, are you scott gomez? he said yes and i shook my head and starting saying the rangers, u signed with the rangers!!!! he looked like any average joe. so we spoke for a couple if mins. i threw in a couple of jabs but i was polite bc i have some respect for the guy. but if i wasnt being paid by verizon at the time i prob would have went off on him. sc**bag!!! so the main things he said was that he was tired of LOU and his stingy ways and having to scratch and claw for every penny he ever made since he was a rookie. he was tired of the devils defensive system and he was tired of playing wit elias and gionta. he needed achange, he wasnt happy in nj anymore. he just bought a house in boston by his best friend pando and he was moving there till the season begins. i told him ill see im in newark with my ruthless friends with our signs making fun of him the first time he steps into new arena. so the new 52 million dollar man didnt even offer to pay for the breakfast of a huge fan of his for 7 years . and he has the nerve to call LOU stingy!!!! it was 3$ and would have been a nice gesture. oh well i wished him good luck and he will see me in newark baby."
Whether he's bulling or not, my team doesn't know. But like I said, I've heard that some don't like how Lou treats his players, so you truthfully don't have to believe me. But I also know a secretary at work who has friends who are close to Lou, and said that he is like that. So I've got 2 sources saying "Lou is stingy." Whether or not he is doesn't hurt his reputation in my eyes.
Not just that, but what makes you think Scott wouldn't walk into a bagel shop in his home town? Are you expecting room service and housekeeping waiting on him every second of the day? He is just a hockey player, and nothing more.
Muttley 08-21-2007, 09:07 PM But like I said, I've heard that some don't like how Lou treats his players, so you truthfully don't have to believe me. We know Lou is stingy and we know how Lou treats players. That's his trademark.
Not too many players say bad things about Lou by the way.
Scott Gomez knows how Lou operates. He's not a rookie who just entered the NHL last season. He formed his opinion of Lou a long, long time ago. I just find it hard to believe Gomez would throw around the sterotypical, "Lou is cheap" line to a perfect stranger in a a bagel shop, especially since he is not bitter about leaving the Devils to begin with.
And I'm not saying YOU'RE lying. I just don't believe the original story.
That's all.

I know you're not saying that, but then again like mentioned above, considering he said he'd never sign with the Rangers, I guess everyone doesn't really know him as well as everyone thinks.

Gomez said he'd never sign with the Rangers.
Shanahan said he'd sign for a discount to play for the Rangers this season.
Rafalski said he instructed his agent to accept no outside offers.
Avery said he loved to play in NY and would take what Sather offered.
Players lie to the media to look like team players all the time... it rarely happens... how much did Crosby cut off his salary on his new deal?
DevilBesideYou 08-21-2007, 09:56 PM Micro Ice (http://www.microicecenters.com/)
And here's an article from the Gloucester Daily Times (http://www.gloucestertimes.com/pusports/local_story_229093931?page=1)about the first micro ice training center rink.
There is none of the above: this rink is 30 feet by 20 feet as compared to a 200 by 85 NHL ice surface. That's where the "micro" comes in on "Micro Ice."
...
"It sounded crazy when I first heard about this," said Gomez, a native of Anchorage, Alaska. "And I said the same thing when I first looked at the size of the ice. Now? This is really what hockey is all about, playing in tight spaces and making quick decisions. Everything is fast here. After one hour, you are dead."
Jay Pandolfo said the difference between a practice on a regular sheet of ice and here is like night and day.
"Even when we practice in New Jersey, a lot of the time, after conditioning, is spent on systems," said Jay, who is entering the last year of his contract with the Devils. "Trust me, even the pros can use some extra skills work. The game is about skills and winning the little battles."
I also like the golf ball idea. But no matter what you do to Gomez, be classy to Pando.
Parise9_Zajac19 08-21-2007, 10:02 PM lol you don't know me then. The other day, I was at a baseball game, after the game, I was outside the Skydome and Gregg Zaun the Jays catcher had trouble opening a door to get outside to get a cab, so when he finally got out I told him "Better stick to catching and hire someone to open doors for you."
Haha, thats fantastic!!! :D
I like the golf ball idea/completely blowing him off. :sarcasm:
guyincognito 08-21-2007, 10:55 PM He said in 3 separate occasions he would NEVER sign with the Rangers and he also lied to Marty about it....
Does it really matter? He's a big $cumbag and I can't wait until Nov. 14th!
Yeah, people say alot of things. Not even Bobby would be a big enough ******
to say "You know what, I'm gonna go play for the Rangers next season." while
under contract for the Devils. Just like say, Nylander, wouldn't say he was going
to go play for the Isles or Devils.
If he's a liar and a bad person, he wouldn't have friends with the Devils. The fact is
the Devils did not offer him a contract because they didn't feel they can sign him.
The Rangers (and probably the Flyers) offered him a ******** of money. He took it. Like you wouldn't, you'd take less money to go play for the LA Kings and suck for all eternity, running second to the Mighty Ducks. There's an existance.
I just don't see how this is the same as Bobby's situation or Elias' situation where both teams made good offers and the players made their respective choices. (Which, in both cases, were the better deal for the players, and had nothing to do
with loyalty.)
In any case, if you hate him as much as you said and you've hated him before this,
it shouldn't matter, right. He's gone, you should be happy.
Think alot of people got jilted here. It's a business, he won't be the first or the last.
The funniest thing about this, and I'm not singling you out, there's alot of people that have done that I'm real surprised did, is all the people who come out with "I'VE HATED HIM FOREVER ARGGHGH ARRGHGHGHA ARRGHGHHA", and then they're so angry and upset and loud about it?
Why do I have the feeling some upset teenage drunk is going to do something really
stupid on 11/14?
guyincognito 08-21-2007, 11:02 PM We know Lou is stingy and we know how Lou treats players.
That's all.
The part I don't understand is him buying a house in Mass. Well, I guess he
could buy 100 houses in Mass. now.
If that is true (and these accounts aren't most of the time), he's really gonna
endear himself to the Rangers fans even more. That's some serious "Tom Brady
in a Yankees hat" stuff there.
RangerSteve 08-21-2007, 11:20 PM Gretzky went there to play because it is the so called "Mecca" or the so called "Worlds Most Famous Arena" and it is in NYC.
If he wanted that he could have signed with his hometown Maple Leafs. He took less money to come to NY so he could play with Messier one last time and take a run at it.
Gunnar Stahl 30 08-22-2007, 12:25 AM If he wanted that he could have signed with his hometown Maple Leafs. He took less money to come to NY so he could play with Messier one last time and take a run at it.
that istrue, i like Gretzky despite him making fun of the Devils and playing for the Rangers. I went to a game at msg when i was younger and saw him play vs thr devils i forgot my devils jersey at my grandmothers house so my dad bought me a the rangers third jersey with gretzky on the back i think it was like the first year for the third jerseys

Another vote for a kick to the golf balls.
Chico Resch 08-22-2007, 03:27 AM You ever kick a golf ball? If you don't have hard shoes you can stub your toe pretty bad, man you really gotta think this **** through sometimes.

I'm THRILLED!!! I knew he was a goner at the beginning of last season so you are correct, he can take that stupid grin and be gone!

Honestly, I really have never liked him, and all the guys that sit around me at the games, know how much I really hate this guy! So, I have quite a few people that can vouch for me!
The Jersey Devil 08-22-2007, 08:19 AM Well, I met Gomer and Jay. First off, I just want to say that they looked either like they were really bored or just miserable to be there. Plus, I did bring a couple golf balls with me.
So, I got to the table with both of them sitting there and of course I went right up to Scott and said while handing him the golf balls: " I brought you some golf balls because you're going to need them next May". Then he took the balls and look kinda confused, and I said " ... because you signed with the rangers". He then gave me one of those polite laughs and says "Do you want me to sign these?". Then I'm thinking that the joke went totally over his head or something so I said "no , i was just kidding." My brother was getting things signed by Jay at the time and he said that Jay gave him a weird look because he laughed when I said the golf ball joke. Neither really said much, especially Jay who I barely got a hello out of. But I don't care because I got my 2000 and 2003 Stanley Cup hats signed by two players from the team and another hat and team photo signed too which I brought with me. They were handing out gomez in a rangers shirt photo which I should have got signed and then tore up in front of him, but whatever.
So that's it. Mister funny man Gomez couldn't even get a simple joke and overall they weren't really too friendly to an actual devils fan in Massachusetts. I was probably one of two there. I wish it was Marty, Zach or Gio instead.
By the way, he never gave back the golf balls, I guessed he realized that he actually would be needing those next year. :D
That disappointing. Gomez isn't very bright.
haha, it sounds like you got a little star struck and rushed the joke.
here is how i imagined it while reading your post.
you approach scott at the table, kind on plop the balls down and say "golf balls!" in an awkwardly loud manner. when he asked you what it meant, you said "signed with rangers!".
basically you creeped the guy out.
that may not be how it went, but thats how it went in my mind. :D

MoonDragn 08-22-2007, 09:59 AM No from the way you described it, he got the joke alright. Sounds like he wasn't in a good mood. Probably got alot of bad blows to his ego somewhere already.
He was just pretending not to understand. He knew perfectly well what you meant.
Game Breaker 08-22-2007, 10:06 AM Haha, thats pretty funny. You would have thought that they would have been talking and joking the whole time. Maybe you just spoke too fast for scott to actually understand you, idk. He seemed like a bit of a jokester so its odd he didn't understand it.
You guys have to remember too that all these guys are friends and don't care much who is on what team. They are always talking and joking before games and stuff, so that fact that jay is a devil and scott is a devil means nothing to them, they are still friends. I always see arod joking around with manny and fatiz before games, the team rivalry means almost nothing to them.

Probably, he did laugh a little. He should start to realize now that devils' fans are not too happy about his new gig. He should at least be
friendly to the people that actually know who he and Jay are in Mass, especially Jay.
I just can't believe he actually kept the golf balls. I kind of wanted them back.

thats not true, maybe its not a big to them as it is to us or the media, but it is still a big rivalry. especially for the guys who have only been on one team their entire career. you cant say Marty doesnt get pumped up when hes playing the rangers. cause if you think that then you must be watching a different game than i am
i love how you try to rip on him then get all excited he signed your stanley cup hat :shakehead

Oh…I get the Brodeur reference now…how very funny and relevant to the discussion! It surely also shows how classy of a poster you are…something we should keep in mind as you tell us how we should be treating Gomez or reacting to his departure.
And for the record, I don’t care much that Gomez decided to leave and sign with the Rangers. I haven’t bashed the guy at all as I realize it was a business decision. Maybe I would’ve been pissed if he took a discount to sign with them, but it looks like he just took the best deal offered. Can’t expect a guy to leave millions of dollars on the table just because it’s a rival team (which coincidentally allows him to live in the same area). Would’ve liked to see him stay at a more reasonable rate, but I would not have been happy if he signed with the Devils for that much money.

Really, if they hated him that much, and he's not worth the money, why the
hell are they that upset? I don't get it. It's ravenous hate, they should be
relieved.
I hate Bobby Holik with a passion. More than these people pretend to hate
Gomez all their lives. And when he signed with you guys, I didn't scream
about how he was a traitor and a *****.... I had a good laugh.
IMO, they just sound real jilted.
Your basically explaining that fans do not matter. Fans are the reason why the NHL is here. We hate him because he went to our biggest team rivals, and constantly he said that he wouldn't, but of course which team in the league would overpay a 60 pt player, the New York Rangers would!
Devils9789 08-22-2007, 03:32 PM You don't think the Rangers have a chance to win the Cup?
I do think the rangers have a chance to win the cup, a good chance actually, IMO i just think i cant put any team to win the cup, not even the devils, i just think they have a better chance, but thats just my own opinion.

I'll agree with that. I also think the Rangers are in a very different situation now than they were before the lockout.
ALine9900 08-22-2007, 03:36 PM You don't think the Rangers have a chance to win the Cup? And they should be a good team.
Sather has definitely, some how, assembled a beast of a team, but any Rangers fan that thinks '94 has just rolled around again after only 13 years is going to be very dissapointed.
Elias to Parise 08-22-2007, 03:37 PM Grow up. If you're this mad when Gomez leaves, who you claim to hate,
you're going to be hanging in your closet when Parise or Zajac leaves down
the road.
In spite of that, all these people "kick him in the nuts", "he deserves to be spit on."
You know what? Nut up, or shut up. Alot of you are stalkers and know where he
hangs... go do it.
Oh, wait... that ain't gonna happen.
You need to chill out. You really think these people were serious about "kicking him in the nuts"? Please lighten up for everyone's sake.

Well, it will be 14 years....:D
ALine9900 08-22-2007, 03:39 PM Haha woops

so we have a very good team but we're in for major disappointment?:sarcasm:
All you can ask at this point in the season is to be amoung the handful of teams that has a legit shot at contending for the Cup, something Slats has accomplished.
Doesn't mean they'll win it but they should be amoung the handful of teams with the best shot.
Devils9789 08-22-2007, 03:42 PM The cause of this thread going off-topic is all gomez's fault :teach:
JR#9* 08-22-2007, 03:43 PM Agree
Especially with Lundqvist in goal. Theres no telling where his talent will carry this team.

:biglaugh: I hate him even more for not getting the golf ball joke

If the Rangers don't win the Stanley Cup it is Gomez fault.
Alcoolique 08-22-2007, 03:55 PM And what makes you think that you'll have a better team that will go further than the Rangers next year?
Gomez made the right move as the Rangers have a muh brighter future than the Devils do in that they have a 24 yr old Lundqvist as well a much deeper propsect pool and a better current roster so if you were scott who would you sign with?
The Kings would have offered 8millions, Gomez would have joined the Kings.
Simple as that,
Indeed,Name one player in the range of Parise/Zajac(which means..1-2years they are in the NHL), who are playing with the Rangers at this moment?Yes, they have a better pool prospects than the Devils.(Shouldn't be a surprise, When the Devils for about 10years have been in the bottom 5-7 in the league.) Better current roster? Depends. The Devils have a great chemistry with the PZL Line..Elias/Zubrus/Gionta will click, But..As for the Rangers, you have to wait and see if Drury/Gomez can click. If they do click..Then the Rangers will have a better Roster.(Forwards wise.)
Defensive side? I'd say...Equal,.
Don't forget..Our masterpiece addition this off-season was Brent Sutter!!!! ;)
Ahhhh..Feel free to be the underdogs again :)

Wait, so Elias and Gionta will click with Zubrus but the Rangers need to wait and see if Gomez/Drury fit in with their team? Tad of a double standard, no?

The reason why?
Zubrus is a big guy(Remember Arnott time?I'm not saying they're both on the same level , TALENT WISE, But Elias always worked good with those BIG CENTERS.) GOMEZ AND ELIAS were both playmakers, Right now you have a PLAYMAKER,Decent Scorer,Scorer.
Sheesh, don't want to turn this out into a DEVIL VS RANGER thread, .

Well Gomez is a playmaker replacing a playmaker. So that should work out fine.

Don't make assumptions. We'll see how this all works out in a couple of months. In the meantime I think that this thread should either get back on track or be locked because it's turning into a pissing contest.

the only problem with that is Zubrus isn't Jason Arnott...

He didnt say zubrus was as skilled like arnott, he just said they were both the same size, which they are.

yeah, I get that but being the same size with less offensive skills doesn't mean that he'll be as effective an offensive player as he is certainly suggesting.
BTW---anyone see the Hockey nEws poll that has Elias ranked as a better player than Jagr..I'm sure that would make for a real interesting thread b/wRangers and Devil fans.
Devils9789 08-22-2007, 04:43 PM Dont feed the fire, JR ;)

I would never...:naughty:
I just wish we'd get to some real hockey already...August is the worst month of the year.
Gunnar Stahl 30 08-22-2007, 04:54 PM ah, no, I was asking it while implying that Marty ISN'T pissed at Gomez...but thanks anyway.
o ok well on a side note i dont think marty was that good of friends with gomez anyway
DevilsFan38 08-22-2007, 06:06 PM I think this thread has run its course.
