This Canada/USA rivalry is getting huge. The mood here at the uni campus is really quiet. This was a tough, tough loss for Canadian hockey. A 3-1 lead blown by a lackluster 3rd period and a flukey goal. Still, all credit to the Americans for playing hard every minute of this tourney.

They went in as the favorites for a reason. Go Parise Go!

I'm happy with this result, not just for Parise, but also because it will irritate the hell out of anti-Americans up here, which I always like to see.

USA! USA!! USA!!!

PARISE!! PARISE!! PARISE!!!

What more is there that needs to be said? Great time for Devils fans and Americans... I want to see Parise as the face of American hockey in the future... he would be great taking over the spot of guys like Modano and Roenick...

I really thought the edge in goal would be enough for Canada.

ZP's final total 5-6-11 was highest, good enough for MVP.

Gionta lead the '00 tourny in scoring .

IMO, goaltending wasn't really a factor in this game. Montoya was solid and so was Fleury. The third and fourth American goals were very soft and could not be blamed on Fleury. Especially the GW where Fleury attempted to clear the puck, hit his own defenseman in the head and the puck bounced back into the net.

A devastating loss but you create your own bounces. Canada has nothing to be ashamed of and the States have a gold medal to show for their hard work. So congrats to Team USA and their fans on your first gold medal at the U20 tourney. Here's to a Canada/US final in Grand Forks next year!

That was a really entertaining game to watch today. What a sweet showcase of future hockey talent. Fritsche showed me some really good wheels on a couple of shifts. Montoya must be pinching himself right now along with the rest of Team USA. I heard Parise say in a post game interview that now he has something he can finally match up head to head with what his father accomplished years ago. Zach was totally stoked and definately looked like a potential future leader. I was most impressed by the initiative he took in running the power play at one point in the game. Team Canada looked as dejected as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks players did after game 7. That part of the game always sucks to see when you watch a hard fought contest played out which could go either way. Stuart's hit was the only ugly blemish on the USA win in my opinion. Seemed a bit on the cheap side to me, but I only saw it from one angle so I might be wrong.

If your talking about that hit along the boards when he elbowed the Hab in the kisser and almost knocked him out then no your not wrong. I think it was against Tim Bent (?), not sure on the spelling of his name.

The Hab? :joker: You mean Canuck? Habs are from Montreal.

I don't think the hit on Brent was too bad though. Just good old fashioned hockey between two teams developing an awesome rivalry.

Parise should have had an assist on Kesler's goal...which would have given him sole possesion of the lead in points...can't really complain though. He was also out there killing a 5-on-3, which is a great sign for the Devils...let's hope he's more productive in the NHL than Gionta. Does anybody know of a site that has stats/MVPs from previous tourneys?

I thought for sure they gave him a assist on that, he should have got one if he didn't.

I disagree, IMO Montoya was clearly better than Fleury.

The wraparound for the first goal by the US was soft, and I also thought the 3rd goal was stoppable. Then Fleury bank on the game winner off Coburn.

The only semi-questionable goal Montoya gave up was the Anthony Stewart goal, where he left the short-side a little early.

All shots are stoppable. It's just a matter of bounces and freak happenings. The puck that flicked over his stick is a one in a thousand goal. How many times does that happen? Your stick is in the wrong place and the puck banks over it just high enough to go over your shoulder and in.

The game winner was nobody's fault. A complete fluke. I'm not knocking Montoya here. I'm just sticking up for Fleury. He's being shelled by the Canadian media and doesn't deserve it.

The first goal was very weak IMO.

He isn't the only reason they lost the game, but he had a big part of it.

The turning point was Canada up 3-1 and Tambellini & Paille with semi-breakaways and they can't even hit the net. Also Getzlaf with 2 great chances and can't finish.

O'Sullivan then snaps a perfect shot and all of a sudden it's a one goal game.

The term Hab is short for les habitents (if I'm not mistaken) which is a french canadian term, so calling him a Hab would be incorrect.

A canuck is an all encompassing term for Canadians as a whole. So a Hab is a Canuck, but a Canuck is not necessarily a Hab.

Habs are French Canadians. It's a regional thing. That's why the Montreal Canadiens are called the Habs. Or Les habitants.

So a Hab is a Canuck, but a Canuck is not necessarily a Hab.

That's the easiest way of putting it.
