I really liked the part of Vasyunov and Bergfors.

From what I am hearing Vasyunov has bulked up and has really impressed preseason in Russia. Look for him to be signed after the WJC.

The regular season hasn't even started yet, but it's encouraging to see Vasyunov play as well as is being reported in pre-season tourneys....

Matthew Corrente -- Corrente has a lot of ability but some of his statements and an off-ice incident last season indicate a need for maturity and character building. Still, he's a tremendous junior defensive prospect with the Mississagua Ice Dogs of the OHL. Corrente is 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds and plays with an edge. He averaged 23 assists in his two OHL seasons and put up impressive plus-minus figures. He was returned to his junior team after a nice performance at training camp last fall and that's what will probably happen again this year.

what did he do??

Keep in mind it wasn't just him -- he wasn't the only bad guy in it.

good read thanks....i am also excited about Vasyunov have heard nothing but good things from buddies in Russia, the key is just to get himover here.

I just hope Corrente can pull it all together, but im not sold on Frasier to be honest.

That makes it even worse in my opinion. 4 or 5 guys and he didn't have the character to think "hey, maybe this is very wrong." And the only-18 defense won't fly. Check this (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa4081/is_200403/ai_n9364176)out.

Finally, someone who respects the Devils record of drafting, a record that is one of the best in the league, especially at where they draft year in, year out. I know I feel a lot better about our kids after reading this article.

when did he play for new jersey, or is this just a preseason or something like thathttp://hfboards.com/imagehosting/thum_4615146c74ae6a2597.jpg (http://hfboards.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=7931)

Corrente just played in the pre-season last year, before heading to juniors, although he looked very impressive. Feisty with good stickwork. Gonna be a keeper. Just let Scott Stevens, Larry Robinson and Tommy Abelin get a hold of him... Teach him what is what.

Oh, trust me -- I think they're all douchebags and got off REALLLL light if what happened was 100% true. But the "group mentality" can take over sometimes and I do think it is a little bit less when it happens that way. Corrente might not have been the main guy and could've just went along with the crowd here. No one really knows and, frankly, I don't really care to know. I just hope it comes back to bite them all at least equal to what happened -- again, if it 100% happened.

Granted Marcus Dixon's conviction was overturned shortly after that came out.

Neither am I, after that incident where Simon confronted him and Fraser just ducked his head and let Simon pound the daylights out of him, I've lost major respect for him.

corrente also had a couple of suspensions for on ice incidents inc. slashing a player behind the knee (led to something like a 8-10 game suspension). and off ice, ontop of the major incident, he got introuble for ignoriing team rules.

Corrente is absolutely a punk kid -- his "idol" reportedly being mob boss John Gotti. Obviously, something a teenager would think was cool. And that is precisely the point, he is still a kid.

He needs some strong role models to smack some sense into him. Put him in a room with Brent Sutter, Colin White, John Madden, Larry Robinson, Scott Stevens, et al, and see how long he keeps up that tough guy act.

But the reason why Lou and Conte drafted him was because his upside is enormous, with a combination of defensive nastiness and offensive skill. He could turn out to be a top pairing guy in the long run. He just needs to grow up.

Talk to me about Corrente in 2 years. The kid is barely out of highschool. Another year or two for him to mature off the ice, at the very least, and hopefully it will follow on ice.

Clarkson, thats who we should all be excited about :teach:.

It is a nice article about the Devils. I love the first line about if you hate the Devils! LOL..... It just proves that the NHL hates the Devils and thier style of play! it also shows that the Devils are built to always be competitive. David Conte and Lou always find ways to draft and develop the right players despite the players that bolt for money!

Lou went out and got some size into our lineup. you cant teach size. We lost a guy who is 5-10 190 for a guy who is 6-4 225 in the middle. this will benefit us. We also got some size on Defense for in front of our own net... buffalo and ottawa pushed us around last year. Not any more. Arron Asham is a Avery type player. When you have size in the lineup it also creates room for the skilled players like gionta, Elias, Parise, these players will also benefit from having bigger guys in the lineup.

the last 2 playoff years we lost because we got out musceled (sp) not any more. Lou made the right moves.
