A guest of the Ducks was right wing Corey Perry, their second first-round selection in last year's entry draft.

Perry is the junior prospect whom the Ducks had planned to send to the Edmonton Oilers last month in a trade for center Mike Comrie, before Edmonton general manager Kevin Lowe backed away from the deal and eventually traded Comrie to Philadelphia.

"They just brought me down to check things out, say hi to some of the guys and talk to the general manager," said Perry, who has 24 goals and 65 points in 35 games for the London Knights to rank second in Ontario League scoring. "It was tough, hearing your name being thrown out in trade rumors, but it's also pretty exciting. I was told Anaheim didn't offer me. It was Edmonton asking for me. It's always exciting when that happens.

"It's over and done with now. I just have to move on and try to make the team in Anaheim (next season)."



I'm sure the trade talks went like this.

Lowe: Can we have Chistov?
BM: No
Lowe: Can we have Lupul?
BM: No
Lowe: Can we have McDonald?
BM: No
Lowe: Can we have Getzlaf?
BM: No
Lowe: Can we have Perry?
BM: Hmmm, sure but remember. You asked for him. The Ducks didn't offer Perry up for trade.

BTW Can Perry make the team next year?
I know he's a little softy and isn't a great skater, but his scoring abilities are very good.

I don't know how the Ducks will finish this year and which pick they will have but the prospects in the organization looks impressive so far (Getz, Bryz, Kunitz, Parentau, Perry and so on...)

Perry, like Getzlaf and Brent aren't signed, but judging from the comments made about them by Ducks management and stories like these, I think every effort will be made to bring them under contract.
