Blueshirts' brain freeze

By JOHN DELLAPINA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

ST. LOUIS - Having already given away more than enough games this season to blow a playoff spot, the Rangers last night plumbed new depths of self-destruction.

And the question facing GM/coach Glen Sather today is: Does he hang on tight and hope his club can overcome its chronic stupidity or does he attempt to finally call a halt to it by doing something loud and dramatic?

Obliterating the effects of game-opening dominance with a rash of brain-numbed penalties, inane turnovers, pathetic penalty-killing and more inadequate goaltending by Mike Dunham, the Rangers simply handed over a game to the St. Louis Blues, 5-4, at the Savvis Center.

"We had that game under control tonight," Sather said. "That's why it's so disappointing. We take two steps forward and one step backward."

I think Dellapina is being a little rough on the Blueshirts, granted they played a bad game last night but they are on a rough road trip in which they just won two games in OT back-to-back, and St Louis has been playing solid hockey the whole year. Man after reading that article you'd think they were in a 10 game losing streak.

:teach: More like, 2 steps backward, spend a couple million dollars, take 2 more steps backward. :D

I'm still trying to figure out how Lindros wound up in the doghouse a few games before this one. I think Sather manufactured a rift in the media just to get some emotion going and it seemed to backfire as well as Eric was like WTF did I do?.

What the hell are you talking about??? I checked every thread back to November (and only cause I couldn't go any further back) and this is the only one I could find that had to do with Ranger struggles or anything to do with them for that matter, nor do I recall any other thread dumping on them. Am I missing something?

I don't think anybody here enjoys talking about the troubles in NY. It's just relevant discussion. It relates to New Jersey's success and when a huge rival is in trouble, it's worth talking about.

That said, I don't remember many threads involving us enjoying a laugh at the Rangers expense. At least not ones initially started to do so.
