According to this link.............devils1983 07-11-2007, 10:34 PM the Rangers (http://www.nhlnumbers.com/nyr.html) are over the cap...and have 2 RFA's to try to sign. Blackjack 07-11-2007, 10:41 PM They're counting Brendan Shanahan's entire contract against the cap. Doesn't work differently b/c of bonuses and his age? Colin Whites Eye 07-11-2007, 11:08 PM correct...bonuses do not count against the cap for players over the age of 35. wanna know what Shanahan has to do to get his bonus to kick in? play in 10 games. ...and you thought lou found all the loopholes in the CBA Dadevil* 07-11-2007, 11:16 PM the rangers are over the cap with still two key players to sign, and they may still want to upgrade their defense.... what do you think about signing hossa if the rags don't re-sign him Alpa Chino 07-11-2007, 11:21 PM That site also doesnt count on the 3mil or so they have after they send Kasper down. Check on the Rangers page there is a thread towards the top about the salary cap :) DevsOwnYou 07-11-2007, 11:24 PM the rangers are over the cap with still two key players to sign, and they may still want to upgrade their defense.... what do you think about signing hossa if the rags don't re-sign him Nah, he is not what we need. Guttersnipe 07-11-2007, 11:27 PM Kasper's 3 mil cap hit is definitely going bye bye when he gets waived, which gives them some breathing room. The rumor is that they may dump more salary by jettisoning Mara or another d-man, because Staal will probably stay up with the big boys this season. It might get tight cap-wise across the river, but Lou and Holland have already proved you can survive a season with zero cap room. Gunnar Stahl 30 07-11-2007, 11:45 PM correct...bonuses do not count against the cap for players over the age of 35. wanna know what Shanahan has to do to get his bonus to kick in? play in 10 games. ...and you thought lou found all the loopholes in the CBA yea i know i read that too....what a bunch of bs Classic Devil 07-11-2007, 11:47 PM Anyone who seriously thinks the Rangers won't find a way to get under the cap is deluding themselves. Sather isn't a complete idiot, guys. Classic Devil 07-11-2007, 11:49 PM correct...bonuses do not count against the cap for players over the age of 35. wanna know what Shanahan has to do to get his bonus to kick in? play in 10 games. ...and you thought lou found all the loopholes in the CBA This is not entirely true. If you go over due to performance bonuses, you have to pay that amount against the cap the following season, and $2M is a harsh penalty. Colin Whites Eye 07-11-2007, 11:51 PM really? i didnt think that was allowed Classic Devil 07-11-2007, 11:57 PM really? i didnt think that was allowed We were over the cap due to performance bonuses last season. $100,000. frankiedue 07-11-2007, 11:59 PM don't forget that teams can exceed the cap by 10% of the cap total from July 1 to the last day of training camp so the rangers will have time to make a trade to get under the cap, after they sign the players they have to sign Colin Whites Eye 07-12-2007, 12:16 AM ah yea thats right...i forgot we were over for a bit last season too MissionHockey 07-12-2007, 12:33 AM We were over the cap due to performance bonuses last season. $100,000. So we have to pay 2 million on the cap this season because we went over on perfomance bonuses 100K? Classic Devil 07-12-2007, 12:35 AM So we have to pay 2 million on the cap this season because we went over on perfomance bonuses 100K? No, we have to pay $100,000 because we were over $100,000. If the Rangers go over by Shanahan's bonuses, they'd have to pay $2M. MissionHockey 07-12-2007, 12:39 AM No, we have to pay $100,000 because we were over $100,000. If the Rangers go over by Shanahan's bonuses, they'd have to pay $2M. Oh, ok good. Irish Blues 07-12-2007, 12:48 AM the Rangers (http://www.nhlnumbers.com/nyr.html) are over the cap...and have 2 RFA's to try to sign. :madfire: I spent much of the day explaining why this was PATENTLY WRONG over on the Rangers board. If you want the explanation, it's over there. And the worst part? I'm busting my ass trying to put out accurate information so everyone knows exactly what's going on, and I watch my information show up somewhere else where they throw numbers together in a half-assed attempt to look like they know how the cap works, say the Rangers are over the cap as a result, and it's "GAAAAH, THE RANGERS ARE OVER - GAAAAH, WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO?" The Rangers are not over the cap. Period. Not now, not going into the season - they're fine (for right now). correct...bonuses do not count against the cap for players over the age of 35. I debunked this one, too. Bonuses count, period - doesn't matter who, doesn't matter how old, doesn't matter when they might pay out. Irish Blues 07-12-2007, 12:52 AM Poor Irish Blues. I think you should take a vacation. If I hadn't decided to put the current site up for 2 years, I might. crashlanding 07-12-2007, 02:19 AM If I hadn't decided to put the current site up for 2 years, I might. Congratulations on the administrator title (that's new right)? I feel sorry for you IB, I know how meticulous you are about all the information you post, but there's no stopping people from posting crap like "I heard from my cousin's best friend's brother, who shines Bettman's shoes, that the Rangers are over the cap." Don't let it get you down and keep fighting the good fight, I sure as hell appreciate it. borrachon 07-12-2007, 03:25 AM Can we start threads about the Ranger$ being in "cap hell" and obsess over every penny they have to worry about? :sarcasm: Seriously though, I don't really care. They'll be under on opening night, even if they have to shed some marginal players. TheDevilMadeMe 07-12-2007, 04:37 AM Rags aren't over the Cap, but they are going to be pressed up against it like the Devils were the last two seasons, particularly next year when most of Shanahan's bonus will most likely count. devils1983 07-12-2007, 08:05 AM Now that everyone has put their two cents in let me explain why I posted that. Even "if" they are under the cap right now, it's not by much. It'll be tough for Sather to add some help (if required) by the trade deadline for a playoff run. Much like the situation Lou was in last year at the deadline. | ||
