The Devils, who will announce today that they will play their first home game in the new Prudential Center in Newark on Oct. 27 against the Ottawa Senators, added another big defenseman to their roster yesterday, but it wasn't Sheldon Souray.

Free-agent Vitaly Vishnevski, who split last season between the Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators, signed a three-year, $5.4 million deal that makes it unlikely general manager Lou Lamoriello will continue pursuing Souray.

most of the first month is on the road. Bon Jovi is opening the Rock. I'm sure Lou and co. decided that if they couldn't guarantee being able to open the building, why not take a long road trip right up front and make sure that everything is exactly right by the time the home opener happens.

i pretty much assumed that day would be the home opener since bon jovi was playing all the other dates around that weekend

When do individual tickets go on sale?

Does that mean that the 2007-08 schedule is out? I haven't seen it on the NHL website yet. I'm anxious to see it because I want to go down and see a game in November and I want to get my tickets early.

The way it looks now, I can probably only catch the devils games on TV when they come play the Capitols :(

The schedule is not out yet. NHL.com says it will be released at two this afternoon.

Center Ice on DISH network RULES vs. local cable or directv - you get to choose between which feed to watch (home or away) so you can always watch the Devils broadcast and not have to listen to the biased homer calls when they're on the road.

I think I'm going to plan a trip down to New Jersey to see my first ever Devil's games in NJ. I've seen them in Montreal, Toronto and Buffalo.

How difficult do you guys think it will be to get tickets for the TB game Oct 31st and the Toronto game Nov 2nd? I imagine the Ottawa home opener would sell out. Someone said earlier that individual tickets go on sale in September is that correct?

Would I be dreaming to think I could get tickets the Devils vs. Rangers at MSG on Nov 3rd as well?

Another Devils fan here from Ontario. I'm looking to head down on a weekend in mid-November or early December. Looks it'll be either Isle on the 16th or the Canadiens on the 30th, with another possibility being the Caps on Dec 7th.

I wish we could buy tickets immediately and not have to wait till September. That sucks!!!

No Kidding. The Canucks longest homestand of the season is four games and they have two, count-em TWO, ten game Road Trips in December and March.

You think 7pm is really the old 7:05 puck drop? I might need the extra 5 minutes..ha ha. I am in northern Jersey and with trains it will be tough to get there at 7. Funny how this is supposed to make it easier and quicker to get to games but I would have to leave work early in order to catch train that would get me to Newark by the new game time. I will suffer though as I am so happy to be out of that crappy arena/construction site. Nov. 14th Gome$ must get booed everytime he touches the puck. According to the new schedule there is no Saturday day games at the Rock. I guess that is because of other events scheduled such as college basketball.

No. 1pm Saturday games were bad, the players were half asleep, people have things to do during these afternoons. Saturday night hockey is the best, I was hoping for more of these games then are actually on the schedule.

Just ran through the schedule, here's quick breakdown of the amount of games on particular days:

Monday - 3
Tuesdays - 3
Wednesday - 10
Thursday - 2
Fridays - 14
Saturdays - 5
Sundays -4

I think it's great that we have 14 Friday night home games, every single one of those should be packed and be a good rowdy crowd with the after work crew in the Metro area.

I'm also glad to see only 2 Tuesday night games (Dart League) and 2 Thursday games (girlfriend teaches). When I ordered my season tickets this year, first time, I was worried they may have a lot of Tue/Thursday games.

Friday nights at the Rock though, I can't wait!!!!!

There are a couple of Saturday afternoon games but not as many as there were as the Devils are now the main tenant and have their choice of dates.

First Saturday game: home opener on 10/27.

It has to do with the arena not being ready. It won't open until the 25th for a Bon Jovi concert.

So they will be changing the arena back and forth from Bon Jovi floor seating to Devils ice surface for the first 5 home games. The new ice maintenance crew will have their work cut out for them. Nice first paychecks though.

I think the 9 opening road games could actually help the team - gives them all a chance to bond on the road.

not to mention, it gives us more home games later on in the season closer to playoff time, which i like better

Anyone else notice that the AP keeps reporting that The Rock will open on September 25? You would think they would have realized they are a month early by now.

And for preseason games, they only play about 6 or 7, so they will play at NYI, NYR, Philly along with probably one in Trenton and maybe a minor league rink of either Pittsburgh (Wilkes Barre) or Boston (Providence).
