Devils add to defense, but it's not Souray
Wednesday, July 11, 2007
BY RICH CHERE
Star-Ledger Staff
The Devils, who will announce today that they will play their first home game in the new Prudential Center in Newark on Oct. 27 against the Ottawa Senators, added another big defenseman to their roster yesterday, but it wasn't Sheldon Souray.
Free-agent Vitaly Vishnevski, who split last season between the Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators, signed a three-year, $5.4 million deal that makes it unlikely general manager Lou Lamoriello will continue pursuing Souray.

Isn't that kind of late?
tailfins 07-11-2007, 01:31 AM most of the first month is on the road. Bon Jovi is opening the Rock. I'm sure Lou and co. decided that if they couldn't guarantee being able to open the building, why not take a long road trip right up front and make sure that everything is exactly right by the time the home opener happens.
frankiedue 07-11-2007, 01:34 AM i pretty much assumed that day would be the home opener since bon jovi was playing all the other dates around that weekend
GentlemanOfLeisure 07-11-2007, 01:38 AM Okay , did I reed that right??? Paul Martin's agent is Ben Hankinson???
The former Devil, Ben Hankinson???

Yes

"During his playing career Ben became aware of the large number of players who were dissatisfied with their agents. Ben knew his ability to understand the players' desires and needs would be a valuable addition to the right agency."

Clarkson Falls Down 07-11-2007, 08:22 AM When do individual tickets go on sale?
DevilsFan1973 07-11-2007, 09:48 AM Does that mean that the 2007-08 schedule is out? I haven't seen it on the NHL website yet. I'm anxious to see it because I want to go down and see a game in November and I want to get my tickets early.
MoonDragn 07-11-2007, 09:52 AM The way it looks now, I can probably only catch the devils games on TV when they come play the Capitols :(

The schedule is not out yet. NHL.com says it will be released at two this afternoon.

Get Center Ice. I am from MD and I got it this past year and it was the best $150 I have ever spent. It is totally worth it.
TB Sheets 07-11-2007, 11:42 AM 2007-08 NHL schedule is to be released today (Wednesday) at 2:00 pm EDT.

Sometime in September.

Center Ice on DISH network RULES vs. local cable or directv - you get to choose between which feed to watch (home or away) so you can always watch the Devils broadcast and not have to listen to the biased homer calls when they're on the road.
;)

You get pretty much every NHL game, it is amazing.

What your not a fan of the brilliant commentary provided by the Florida based teams? :)
If you call it "ice hockey" you should be instantly fired. Is there any other kind? (and if you say field hockey i'm going to kick you between the goal posts)
Mr.Krinkle 07-11-2007, 02:09 PM Schedule is out, November 14th, the Rangers visit the Rock for the first time. I can't wait.

NyQuil 07-11-2007, 02:16 PM Interestingly, Ottawa played in the last game at Continental Airlines and looks to play the first official game at the new arena.

Get your hands on some for DF too. It's stupid that they're spread out like that.
jkrdevil 07-11-2007, 02:20 PM Get your hands on some for DF too. It's stupid that they're spread out like that.
No what's stupid is that they play 2 games in Canada against the Habs and Leafs then go home for one night and back to Toronto the next night.
ZZ Pops 07-11-2007, 02:22 PM Season closer is Rangers-Devils. Nice.

Sure thing.. we Ontario based Devils fans gotta stick together ;)

Hopefully not to the same result. :help:

At least it's not too far. It could be worse, ask the Canucks.
ZZ Pops 07-11-2007, 02:30 PM Anybody else notice we have a 2:00 game against Ottawa on a Monday?
Edit: Changed to 3.
I Hate Tie DOMI 07-11-2007, 02:33 PM Get your hands on some for DF too. It's stupid that they're spread out like that.
Don't forget me too!!
I Hate Tie DOMI 07-11-2007, 02:38 PM I think I'm going to plan a trip down to New Jersey to see my first ever Devil's games in NJ. I've seen them in Montreal, Toronto and Buffalo.
How difficult do you guys think it will be to get tickets for the TB game Oct 31st and the Toronto game Nov 2nd? I imagine the Ottawa home opener would sell out. Someone said earlier that individual tickets go on sale in September is that correct?
Would I be dreaming to think I could get tickets the Devils vs. Rangers at MSG on Nov 3rd as well?
DevilsFan1973 07-11-2007, 02:43 PM Another Devils fan here from Ontario. I'm looking to head down on a weekend in mid-November or early December. Looks it'll be either Isle on the 16th or the Canadiens on the 30th, with another possibility being the Caps on Dec 7th.
I wish we could buy tickets immediately and not have to wait till September. That sucks!!!
HockeyBasedNYC 07-11-2007, 02:44 PM Does the 9-straight on the road to open the season have anything to do with the new Arena not being fully completed or booked up?
I Hate Tie DOMI 07-11-2007, 02:45 PM Does the 9-straight on the road to open the season have anything to do with the new Arena not being fully completed or booked up?
I don't think so, since Bon Jovi is having a concert in there before then.

Ah, gotcha.
ZZ Pops 07-11-2007, 02:51 PM 9 out of our last 10 games are against division rivals.
DevsOwnYou 07-11-2007, 02:52 PM I see we will be on a road trip through the Thanksgiving week again, even though we are out of CAA. Weird.
Feb 8 vs Niedermayer and the Ducks.
November 14 will be a hellish night for Gome$.
Not enough Saturday night home games IMO.
9 consecutive road games to start the season is very rough.
Can't wait for 10/27 vs Ottawa to open the Rock!!
Devilsfanatic 07-11-2007, 02:55 PM Well it doesn't necessarily have to be Niedermayer and the Ducks, he could retire.

I remember the days when this team used to be much better on the road then at home.. or was that the playoffs?
DevsOwnYou 07-11-2007, 02:58 PM 7pm starts now, so maybe fans won't have to leave so early now like they did for years at CAA? :sarcasm:
mass transportation will be heavily used and the easiest way to The Rock.

I'm pretty sure that Burke's hoping for that right about now.. what a shocker hunh, a team's cap space and plans put on hold while Neidermayer waits to make a decision.. where have I seen that before. hmmm.

:biglaugh: nice. Pretty soon he'll go to any team that lets his son be the assistant coach.
Dolemite 07-11-2007, 03:32 PM At least it's not too far. It could be worse, ask the Canucks.
No Kidding. The Canucks longest homestand of the season is four games and they have two, count-em TWO, ten game Road Trips in December and March.
matty95-00-03 07-11-2007, 03:41 PM You think 7pm is really the old 7:05 puck drop? I might need the extra 5 minutes..ha ha. I am in northern Jersey and with trains it will be tough to get there at 7. Funny how this is supposed to make it easier and quicker to get to games but I would have to leave work early in order to catch train that would get me to Newark by the new game time. I will suffer though as I am so happy to be out of that crappy arena/construction site. Nov. 14th Gome$ must get booed everytime he touches the puck. And Cam should knock him through the boards and into the new practice rink! Cant wait til tickets go on sale! Long live hockey at THE ROCK!
BaysideDevilFan 07-11-2007, 04:00 PM According to the new schedule there is no Saturday day games at the Rock. I guess that is because of other events scheduled such as college basketball.
DevsOwnYou 07-11-2007, 04:04 PM According to the new schedule there is no Saturday day games at the Rock. I guess that is because of other events scheduled such as college basketball.
No. 1pm Saturday games were bad, the players were half asleep, people have things to do during these afternoons. Saturday night hockey is the best, I was hoping for more of these games then are actually on the schedule.
Mr.Krinkle 07-11-2007, 04:07 PM Just ran through the schedule, here's quick breakdown of the amount of games on particular days:
Monday - 3
Tuesdays - 3
Wednesday - 10
Thursday - 2
Fridays - 14
Saturdays - 5
Sundays -4
I think it's great that we have 14 Friday night home games, every single one of those should be packed and be a good rowdy crowd with the after work crew in the Metro area.
I'm also glad to see only 2 Tuesday night games (Dart League) and 2 Thursday games (girlfriend teaches). When I ordered my season tickets this year, first time, I was worried they may have a lot of Tue/Thursday games.
Friday nights at the Rock though, I can't wait!!!!!
Randal Graves 07-11-2007, 04:08 PM I think the team record on those afternoon games wasn't very good last year. I remember alot of people here complaining about them.
jkrdevil 07-11-2007, 04:13 PM There are a couple of Saturday afternoon games but not as many as there were as the Devils are now the main tenant and have their choice of dates.
Saturday Day games this season:
Dec 15. vs Phoenix 1pm
Feb. 23. vs Islanders 1pm
Plus there is an 1 o'clock day on Presidents Day. Along with Sunday games at 5pm or 3pm.

TB Sheets 07-11-2007, 07:58 PM First Saturday game: home opener on 10/27.
Next Saturday home game: 12/15.
Guess I gotta go to that home opener or wait awhile before I get to see a home game.
DevilsFan38 07-11-2007, 08:30 PM Interestingly, Ottawa played in the last game at Continental Airlines and looks to play the first official game at the new arena.
First game period, the arena won't be ready so I don't think the Devils will be playing any preseason games there (which begs the question of where they will play, but that's for another thread).
Does the 9-straight on the road to open the season have anything to do with the new Arena not being fully completed or booked up?
It has to do with the arena not being ready. It won't open until the 25th for a Bon Jovi concert.
Tao Jones 07-11-2007, 08:53 PM So they will be changing the arena back and forth from Bon Jovi floor seating to Devils ice surface for the first 5 home games. The new ice maintenance crew will have their work cut out for them. Nice first paychecks though.

My guess is on the road with a game in Lowell and a couple in Trenton. Probably have camp at South Mountain.

I think the 9 opening road games could actually help the team - gives them all a chance to bond on the road.
Colin Whites Eye 07-11-2007, 11:12 PM not to mention, it gives us more home games later on in the season closer to playoff time, which i like better
DevsOwnYou 07-11-2007, 11:20 PM Anyone else notice that the AP keeps reporting that The Rock will open on September 25? You would think they would have realized they are a month early by now.
And for preseason games, they only play about 6 or 7, so they will play at NYI, NYR, Philly along with probably one in Trenton and maybe a minor league rink of either Pittsburgh (Wilkes Barre) or Boston (Providence).
