NJDevilsFan21 07-09-2007, 08:10 PM Despite the loss of Gomez and Rafalski.. I can honestly say, I don't think I've been as excited for the upcoming season.
New faces like Clarkson, Zubrus, and possibly Souray... along with a new arena... along with the question that just adds to the tension of "are we going to do good, or bad?"
If we had the same roster, I would honestly not really be looking forward to next season too much. The end result would have been so predictable. Do pretty well in the season, and get knocked out anywhere from 1-3 rounds.
But this.. the unpredictable aspect.. it's like I feel alive inside!

We have Weekes as well!?! I actually like him and maybe Marty doesn't need to play 70+ games this season.
Man.. I'm actually starting to like this more and more heh. Feels like it's changing into a totally different team.

Yep, its definitley a much different team and we arent done yet.
The Mad Crapper 07-09-2007, 08:17 PM I know I'm excited!
I like the fact that a lot of teams are trying to model themselves like this year's Anaheim Ducks; big, tough, talented...sort of old school hockey. (Which I like a lot!!!)
That being said, we got bigger, we have talent & with the right coach...we could have ourselves a fun-to-watch, let's get ready to rumble team!
Plus I LOVE the fact that Gomez went to the Rangers. That will heat up the series TEN-FOLD!!!
Should be a great season of hockey ahead!!!
basketcase78 07-09-2007, 08:19 PM With Souray, I'm extremely excited and believe we are a better overall team than last year. Without Souray or a defenseman of his level, we're a playoff bubble team and thus I wouldn't get excited.

I love the fact that Madden will deal with Gomez, I hope he hurts him..:sarcasm:

I agree with Gomez. Imagine being at Game 1 of the Season Series vs. the Rangers at the rock...WOW..
Feed Me A Stray Cat 07-09-2007, 08:28 PM I'm definitely excited. I want to see a team that forechecks more and is physical/tough to play against.

Amen brother! Can't wait for this season to start.
devs4L 07-09-2007, 08:39 PM def. excited for the devils first season at the rock. New arena which will have a great atmosphere every night, new faces like Clarkson, Zubrus, Rachunek, Weekes, maybe Viuhkola, and one more defensemen yet known. Also, looking forward to see what Andy Greene can do in a full season of hockey. A bigger, hungrier team. Continued maturation of Zajac and Parise. Marty getting both his 500th win, and possibly 100th shutout, and finally a new coach.
The anticipation of how all of this will contribute to the devils success def. has me excited for the 2007-2008 season.

dkhockey 07-09-2007, 08:48 PM Hate be a downer, but without Sourey and another good goalscorer i donīt see the devils winning the cup. Itīs pretty much the same team who got crushed by Ottawa....

Nobody mentioned anything about the cup, and it really isn't the same team as last year's (new coach, new #1 defenseman, new #1 center, more rested Marty, etc.).

Ah yes but if we don't get Souray and have more cap room we can maybe make trades at the deadline to bolster the lineup.

Yeah, forget players like Parise, Zajac, Greene, Martin, Oduya, and Clarkson improving. Or Gionta and Elias having bounce back seasons.
Can't stand when people think so narrow-mindedly about the roster.
Central Jersey Devil 07-09-2007, 09:33 PM I'm happy about the brand new season...see: :)
People talk about how the dvils overcame the loss of Stevens and Niedermayer. I don't think we did. We dropped from a Final Four team to a final 12 team. And now we lose two more cogs.
I am looking forward to the building, and I think a change in the roster is a good thing, but its not over yet. We need more.
mrthemike 07-09-2007, 10:22 PM Wonder how the new reebok jerseys will look.

About this post DR:
* you have the best avatars * great season of hockey indeed * who is this "gomer" that you speak of ???
MissionHockey 07-09-2007, 10:34 PM I'm hoping for a breakout year from Martin. If he can put up 50 points then we really didn't need Rafalski.
TaiMaiShu 07-09-2007, 10:39 PM I'm always excited for a new season!
Elias to Parise 07-10-2007, 06:41 PM Remember July 1st and how depressed we all were? Things sure did change fast. We're going to be a very good team now and in the future because of the signings we made. I don't care what any Ranger or Penguin or whatever fan says because in my opinion it's a toss up between US the Penguins, and the Rangers. The Flyers will make the playoffs but, I just can't see them winning the division yet. So yes, I am predicting that FOUR teams will make the playoffs from the Atlantic Division just like last year. Sorry Islander fan's, I still think you'll be competitive and exciting to watch though.
None Shall Pass 07-10-2007, 09:21 PM I love this team. I'm excited to watch them regardless of whether we do well or not.
For all I care the team could be nothing but Cam playing goalie with a foam "We're #1" finger instead of a glove and Mike Rupp taunting the fans because he makes $500K a year doing nothing for 3 minutes a game and I'd still be glued to the Devils.
JimEIV 07-10-2007, 09:37 PM I'm excited that the Devils have chosen to go a new direction...Well, Not so new, kinda more like back to their roots of Size, Strength, and Depth.
Don't ask any player to do to much, every player has a small role and is expected to perform it perfectly.
That has been missing since 2003 and I look forward to a rebirth of Devils Hockey

Our goal is always to win the cup.
Trade#5 07-10-2007, 09:51 PM as of right now.. no... we still gotta do something kinda big with this teams roster... and the price of tickets don't help.
if this is all Lou is gonna do, 'the rock' is gonna have trouble selling seats.

he is just realistic. all those players excluding martin have barley any playoff experience. dont get me wrong parise will easily be much more vaulable htan gomer will and zajac is going to be much better this year, greene the same
we are headed in teh right direction but i am just glad that the season doesnt start tomorow
Tek_Jansen 07-11-2007, 12:32 AM I'm excited. Mainly I want to see if Brodeur can get the record for career shutouts this season. I'd love to see him win another cup to even if it comes at the cost of the Pens having to wait another year. He'll be that much closer to nabbing Roy's career wins too.
Though things look worse than they have in recent times for the Devils, they still have a great team and I wouldn't be too surprised to see a huge trade to get a true #1 D-man or another French Canadian to improve your Cup chances.
TaiMaiShu 07-11-2007, 12:36 AM Thanks for the kind words but I'm not as optomistic this year as I was last year...

its nice to get the persective of a fan of another team but still is not being bias at all.
i completely agree with verything about marty and i totaly agree(unlike half of the people on this board) that we need a number 1 defencemen. just a veteran guy that doesnt have to be 38 years old just a guy that has been in the league for a little while and will step up as out number one defencemen. a guy taht will play the last few minutes of a close game. WE DONT HAVE SOME ONE THAT I WOULD TRUST EVERYTIME DOING THAT. sure martin is great, i love him, but he isnt much better than the otehr guys we have on the team
dzanimal16 07-11-2007, 01:43 AM something else is gonna go down whether it be a signing or a trade..........
JimEIV 07-11-2007, 08:44 AM something else is gonna go down whether it be a signing or a trade..........
We all thought the same thing 2 years when we started the season with: Brian Rafalski - Paul Martin - Colin White - Richard Matvichuk - Dan McGillis- Vladimir Malakhov - Sean Brown - David Hale - And Tommy Albelin looking to come back one more time.
MoonDragn 07-11-2007, 09:47 AM What are the chances of Niedermayer retiring and then coming back from retirement as a Devil? Would that nullify his current contract with the ducks?

Retired players have to stay retired for a full season.
