Devils Looking At Darren McCarty?

HockeyBuzz.com is saying that the Devils are in the running for Darren McCarty.

Although McCarty would be a nice fit with the Devils; lots of energy, toughness & capable of scoring some goals...I would think that would be the end of the Janssen era as he'll be spending time in either Lowell and/or Trenton.

Thoughts anyone???

McCarty is like 100 years old. We'd probably be looking for more of the leadership intangibles/character than serious on-ice production.

I would rather give the roster sport to a young guy.
Unless Lou is planning on trading Cam?

He's 35 years old... the age when fighters get hurt too much to make the lineup.

I like Cam better for filling the role, but Darren could do some grinding in front of the net and make a big screen for a PP cannon shot (hmmm who could have one of those?)

Can't Grant Marshall do what Macarty does if needed? No need for Darren

Thing about Asham is he's going to get twice as much as another player who can fill his role.

Man Mccarty would look great on our 3rd line banging the other teams top forwards.

McCarty is a shell of his former self......So many problems in his life he isn't really a Devil type of guy.

Steer clear of this guy. His heart is in the right place but his skills are lacking. Too bad he is a great team guy.

why do i have a feeling that mccarty would be the second coming of darren langdon?

He's also 3x better.

yup...I cant see marcarty signing for less than 750 to get asham it would cost maybe 1-1.5 he is everything Cam Rupp and McCarty is but better. I know with the cap money is always an issue but I really feel to make deep into the playoffs we need to roll 4 lines

bottom 2

pandolfo madden clarkson
rupp brylin asham
viokhula

lets leave the question marks out of the equation....
1. Can Clarkson really fill a spot on the roster all season long?
2. Can Rupp/Jannsen really do the job, AT a high level for more than 3 minutes a night?
3. Is viokhula's game going to translate here in NA?

Add asham in the picture we can have a floating 13th player between rupp-viokhula-clarkson

Darren McCarty is what the devils need he is a gritty guy and the devils I think are lacking that Gritt on the lower lines. If you where to put him with Madden and Pandolfo I think it would be great and he has a heck of alot more skill the Janssen even if he is older.

The last time I heard McCarty news, it was related to $$$ problems. I think it was him, and I hope the situation has been resolved before he gets back in the game.

i hope hockeybuzz.com is wrong about alot of the players we are supposedly interested in if you look down the list we are interested in nothing but complete garbage at this point.

LOU PLEASE DO NOT START SIGNING VETERANS JUST FOR THE SAKE OF HAVING VETERANS.

this team has enough veterans we were one of the oldest teams in the league last year.

PS how the hell are we rumored to be interested in Brian Boucher?!?!?

I like it. After signing Darren McCarty, we can then sign Stu Grimson, Marty McSorely and Jesus Christ if he is available.

I rather have Asham as well. Also, the Buzz reporting that Vancouver loading up on defensemen for a trade, possibily with the Devils.

That is the discount...the whole resurrection thing is costing them a lot.

As I posted on another thread, I am also a believer that he is indeed finished. He's a great guy to have in the room, but his rambunctious style has definitely taken a toll on his body. It really was painful to watch him get from point A to point B last year. He just doesn't have it anymore.

Well, He'd qualify for the over 35 yr old incentive-laden contract.

Imagine, Jesus getting less than Gomez. Who'd a thunk it?
