Hey guys.

I was wondering if any of you play at the Icehouse in Hackensack. I just signed up for a summer league there, but they only allow individuals to join teams in the 7/8 division. From what I hear these divisions are really geared more towards beginning players, so I am not expecting the level of competition to be what I am used to. I figure it'll be OK to get back in shape during the summer, but I will probably want to move up come the fall.

Does anyone play on a team in a higher division that is looking for players? I have been playing for about 12 years. I played D3 college hockey. I can play pretty much any position on the ice except for goalie, but I am most comfortable at LW.

If you know someone that is looking for players I would appreciate the contact.

I am looking to play, but i am C level for sure. Is that what this league is?

What are the other details? Sounds like I need you on my team!

Can you go to an open hockey this Friday or Saturday? Our team just got moved up to D7 and we might need to upgrade our talent. D8 is a mixed bag, but from what I hear D7 can be more challenging. If D7 ends up too easy for you I think some of our guys have friends in the higher divisions, but I would give D7 a shot first; I've watched D2 games and it looks like a Canadian junior game.

I've never actually played in the "A/B/C/D" type leagues, but if I had to guess, I would say C level translates to a strong D8 team or D7. Again, if you can make an open hockey I can tell you where I think you should play.

Can someone explain 7/8 division? At our rink (Chesapeake, Va.) it's either A, B, or C level. What's the difference?

There are 8 Divisions based on level of play: Division 1 being the most competitive through Division 8 being the least competitive.

Yeah, from what I hear the first couple of divisions in this league are pretty solid. I mean, if they are already splitting the talent into 8 divisions then the guys at the top have to be really good.

I am by no means a DI/DII guy. When are the open hockey sessions at this rink? If they're at night on Friday/Saturday then I can definitely make it. Let me know.

Check the website posted above; I don't know but if they don't have it I think union sports arena does.

D7 games are Tuesday nights, so if you can't make those you might have to try to find a D8 team (Monday nights) can you make a Friday night open hockey at Union Sports Arena or Richard Codey Arena?

Not at IceHouse. The only rink that I know of that has stick time is Palisades Ice in the Palisades Center Mall in Rockland County, NY.

I played in div.3 in the fall/winter season, if you have ever played high school varsity hockey in jersey, division 3 is like an average-high varsity team. currently i'm playing in 8a which is like... a step below Highschool JV imo, but the teams usually have 1 or 2 guys that should be in higher divisions which make it fun to go against for me at least (goalie)

He's right. There are a few teams in D8 that can play and some are pretty bad. I, too, am playing D8 because I signed up as an individual. I tried to move up last season, but no such luck, so i just signed up to play with a few of my friends this year.

Yeah, I played my first 8A game on Monday night. The competition was better than I expected, but I literally expected to see dudes falling down and whiffing on slapshots and what not. My team only had 5 skaters and a goalie (a sixth skater showed up about halfway through the 2nd) and we still managed to win the game 6-4.

Blackjack, I thought there was open hockey at the Ice House on Friday nights? If not, I can probably make it to South Mountain. What time does it start? If I go I will probably be wearing a red metallurg (RSL team) jersey.

I'm not sure if Hackensack has open hockey, but I can't make it up there more than twice a week (just got back from work now) I live in South Orange. I wasn't planning on going to Richard Codey; tonight because we just played yesterday, but I'll show up if you're going.

It starts at 9:45

Ice House is on their summer schedule and usually drops their Friday night session, but they still usually have it on Saturday night and on an evening during the week. Check their website. Floyd Hall Arena has open hockey Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Hey man, I apologize but I just got your PM and read this message right now. I called the office at Codey but I couldn't get a hold of a real person and they don't have the open hockey schedule on their recording so I made other plans. Maybe we can set something up for next week.

The summer session is only 7 weeks long and one week has been played already. My assumption would be that they won't be accepting new players, but it couldn't hurt to call and ask.

From the website:

Anyone interested should contact Tom Preville at 201-487-8444 ext 269 or stop in and fill out an application.

are you on Rolling Thunder? cause that sounds like a description of the team and final score that my team played given to me by my friend. I wasn't at that game because it was my one night i had to work late.

Well, my first D8 session at the Ice House is now over. I ended up scoring something like 14g/4a in the 8 game season. I think I accounted for about half of the goals my team scored all season, but that's not saying much because we weren't exactly an offensive juggernaut.

There were actually quite a few very good players in this league, but I am assuming that these guys probably ended up playing D8 for the summer because they liked playing on Monday night, or they were in the same situation as me (signed up as an individual and had no choice). Bottom line is that I am quite confident that I can compete at a higher level, so I figured I would throw it out to you guys again for the Fall season.

Anyone trying to put together a team for the Fall? I wouldn't mind playing at Floyd Hall either.

Thanks again.

I'm pretty sure that Hackensack doesn't have a summer open anymore. You guys might want to try Floyd Hall. They have a great Sunday skate and the morning skate all week is usually good too.

Correct. They no longer have open, at least not until after Labor Day. The only open hockey that I'm aware of that is held during evenings is Floyd Hall Arena, Union Sports Arena, Palisades Ice, Skylands & Aspen Ice.

My team sucked, we lost all our games, we scored 22 goals as a team, and I had 13 of them myself (as a defenseman, i might add), we were awful. I'd play with you in the fall but I go to school in New York. Give me a shout next summer if you're looking for someone.
