Let's say I just acquired a good sum of cash and have a terrible urge to spend it on hockey stuff (mostly apparel i.e. jersey's, hats, etc.)

I live in Monmouth County...where is the nearest and best place to go relieve this itch?

I know American Hockey in Wall (Southern Monmouth) used to have a ridiculous pro shop.

Well if you wanted to buy hockey equipment I would recommend Consignment Sports on Route 9 North in Howell. I'm not too sure if they have tons of jerseys, hats, etc. but I know they have tons of equipment both used and new.

I remember that Pro Shop in Wall, that was ages ago, now it's basically empty.

You haven't been to Wall lately then. Their pro-shop now puts their old one to shame. It's beautiful and fully stocked.

Red Bank Armory's pro-shop is pretty good.

Ocean Ice Palace's is the best around and really always has been, IMHO.

I can't remember the name of the rink, but there's one up north a bit off of 287. I think the town starts with an R? They had a nice shop there when I went up there to look at skates.

Bridgewater is just off 287, you can see it from the highway. Is that what you're thinking of?

Off 287 would be the Bridgewater one, no?

Consignments sports is the best. It has everything you need and the staff is helpfull. I've been getting my hockey stuff there for years as has my friend. We have never had any problems. I would definitly go there. I don't know what town it is in it is on Route 9 though.

I don't think I've ever been there, but heard it was the best roller hockey rink in the state.

You're thinking about Extremes, but that place shut down. THE rink to go to in NJ now is Inman in Edison. When I played there there were five divisions and 6-8 teams per division.

Consignment Sports is number 1. I go to Woodbridge Community Center, my friend works there, decent selection. For equipment though, no doubt Consignment. If you're going to buy sticks, do what I do. See if you like them there, then buy them online for cheaper, cause they do kind of overcharge.

It kind of is for Roller now. I've been playing at Woodbridge this summer and I think it's a great ice rink. Boards are nice, great ice feel, and the benches are the nicest to hop over. Better than Bridgewater. I played last night and I could feel the ice falling apart below my feet at times. Rahway is decent for roller, the Rutgers Roller Hockey team practices there, but Rahway's leagues are going to hell cause everyone is going to Inman, and Rahway's boards and surface aren't too good. Still decent to play there though. I play open there.

Yeah consignment sports is great as far as equiptment goes. They have some apparell in the front, i.e. jerseys and t-shirts, but its not a huge selection. I'd say if your really looking for apparell, you'd be best off at Modell's or the NHL shop online.

your best bet is going to shop.nhl.com for apparel but you might want to wait for the new jerseys to come out august 1st, and their could be a new logo so you should hold off on that.

for equipment i would suggest hockeymonkey.com or hockeygiant.com

I'm from North Jersey, and if I really want to go out of my way to go to a great pro-shop I head straight to Ocean Ice Palace. Great selection of equipment and I've never had a problem with any of their sales associates. They're very very knowledgeable.

Bridgewater which is off 287 really doesn't have much of a Pro-Shop. Are you talking about Ice Vault in Wayne off of 287 or Aspen Ice in Randolph that is off Route 10?

Ocean Ice Palace probably has the most helpful guys working there as well. Another decent one is the one at Pro Skate in South Brunswick, though I think its called the Princeton Sports Center now.

Amazing how Princeton magically seems to expand further and further up Rt. 1

I've been going to Valley Sports on Valley Rd in Sterling for a while now, everyone that works there knows what they're talking about and plays the game. They have a good amount of equipement selection, and they can do pretty much anything w/ jersey customization. I've had a lot of lettering done there, and it's all been amazing quality. Last time i was there I was talking to the owner and the expansion plans they have seem rather impressive.

Ahhhh, I think it's Bridgewater. No idea why I thought it was an R.

Well, B is like an R without it's bottom chopped off ;)

For apparel, go to www.rivercitysports.com online.

As for proshops, I agree with the people who said Ocean, but I've always gone for goalie equipment.

Ocean is the best.

Princeton is growing because A- the name is prestigious and B- they can get more tax money from the new additions.

Good call Muttley, i forgot the name for a second, its been a few years since i moved.

When i Worked in Totowa, i would go there weekly. Usually to get skates sharpened, but also to see the beautiful '95 Stanley cup Ring on Display in the case....
I think The Devs old Equipment Mngr owns/runs the place or something. Can't beat that. And you have to support Local Ma and Pop Shops if you can, otherwise they will be gone sooner.

Sports Section in Cedar Grove used to be all sorts of sports, now its primarily hockey. I know a few of the Devils actually go there (Madden went there last year for a cage when he injured his face, I believe?)

It used to be run by an ex-minor league baseball player or something, but he sold it a few years back. Dunno who owns it now.
