forceten 07-06-2007, 10:21 AM I noticed that Bryan Miller (24 y/o D man we signed as a FA out of college) is UFA .. we didn't qualify him? Or because he was UFA we don't get RFA years on him?
We going to keep him, you think?
What about Tom Harant and Alex Brooks?
Lou's Koolaid 07-06-2007, 03:01 PM This Miller kid is the size of a smurf, I watched him all year with ECHL Trenton. AHL player at best.
forceten 07-06-2007, 03:21 PM Ahh.. okay. I remember there was a small buzz when we first picked him up and wondered what happened there.
Lou's Koolaid 07-06-2007, 03:30 PM Yeah he's from Wanye pretty close to you in Caldwell?
devildan 07-06-2007, 04:24 PM Saw him play when he went to BU; great little guy in the Rafalski mold. Has the potential to be a NHL player IMO if he can ever get over his shoulder problems. Probably better off going to a team with less defensive depth.
forceten 07-06-2007, 04:28 PM Yep. Wayne is about two towns over from West Caldwell (Fairfield is in-between). He's 7 years younger than me so I never got to see him play in HS.
trentondevil 07-06-2007, 06:13 PM Watched him last year with Trenton and he is very, very soft. Got pushed around a lot. He can skate pretty well and has a decent shot but was a very irritating player to watch. He would be great in an adult no check league.
DevsOwnYou 07-06-2007, 07:43 PM Miller has no chance of playing in the NHL. I think he was signed to contract by Lowell anyway, not the Devs.

If I remember it right, I think he played for a year or two at Don Bosco and then went on to prep schools in Michigan and Illinois.

NO WAY does he have even a remote chance at being an NHL regular. No way. Not only is he not skilled enough, he's waaaaaay too easy to push around.

I saw him get injured in a rookie game vs Philly at SMA 2 training camps ago.
He took a wicked slap shot to the ankle or skate, and never returned to camp. I think that injury sealed his fate as a career AHLer, or even ECHLer.
I hope he likes Trenton, since he will be there this season.
Jonathan. 07-06-2007, 11:51 PM It wasn't an injury that would keep him away from the NHL. It's the fact that a 2nd grade girl is stronger than him.

The next body check he throws will be his first. I hope he is anywhere else but Trenton this year.

That does not surprise me, since his idol growing up was Brian Leetch.
I did some research on him and found that tidbit.
Bro, I find it hard to believe that you follow the careers of ECHL players in the Devils system.

you got the geography right...2 years at Don Bosco and then a year in Illinois playing in the NAHL and then a year in Michigan with the National Team Development Program, U18 team

Uhhh, I saw him play quite a few times when he played for Boston. I also saw him play NJ HS hockey a few times as well since I tend to go to quite a few HS games a year around here.

As previously discussed, Bryan actually played under 2 years for Bosco before moving on to greener pastures. So, for some, reason I doubt that you remember him playing HS hockey way back in 98. As for his time at BU, he was Bar None our best defenseman in 2004 (his only injury free season). Closest thing you could get to being an All American his senior year and first team all HE IIRC. Guy was a rock on D, a leader on offense, and a key reason for the turnaround of the team from mediocrity.
That being said, I haven’t seen him play since his last game as a Terrier in 2005. He was always injury prone, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some time/injuries in the pros have made him too timid. I also wouldn’t be surprised if his lack of size finally caught up to him (even though it was never really a problem at the collegiate level). I dont know, maybe his game just didnt translate well to the Pros. But don’t give me that crap about you not liking his game in college/high school ... that only shows your ignorance on the subject.
