Spankatola Jamnuts 12-29-2003, 11:13 PM Surgery or rehab on his partially torn shoulder (http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ducks/la-sp-duckrep30dec30,1,2180201.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nhl-ducks).
They'll decide tomorrow. The latter is 12 weeks, the former indefinite.
Havelid's out for Wednesday's and Friday's game for his baby's delivery. He'll be back for Detroit.
Maybe we'll see Popovic? Or maybe he can't be recalled from the Spengler Cup?
lux_interior 12-29-2003, 11:30 PM The Ducks have been stung repeatedly by turnovers in their own zone.
That's an understatement.
Bad blow for the Ducks. That's about 3 months minimum. Tough to take, but maybe this will give Popovic a chance.
cheesymc 12-29-2003, 11:45 PM im sure the lineup will wont use Popo now that hes in the juniors, maybe mottau or that other smallish dman.
the line up will be a much slower lineup but maybe more physical"
Carney Havelid
Vish Salei
Simpson Sauer
We can only hope that Simpson plays as well as hes getting paid and that Havelid really does better without Ozo.
I dont know about your guys, but I think the entire core of Dmen have not been playing as well as they have last year except for Vish and Sauer, and those 2 arent playing that fantastic either. I think Sauer is more offensive and physical but still not where he should be, maybe this will have him step it up but I doubt it unless Simpson can teach him a thing or two.
McDonald19 12-30-2003, 12:09 AM Ward should be the 6th defensmen for the two games Havelid misses.
I think a 7th defensmen should be recalled. They won't recall Popovic even if it were possible...because it's a really good experience for him to win that tournament with Canada.
Armstrong or Mottau should be recalled for that 7th defensmen spot. Maybe tomorrow. :dunno:
If Ozolinsh is possibly going to miss the rest of the season, can we try for Gonchar?? I'm sure Washington would ask for Lupul to start with.

wow no more Kariya pinnochio picture?
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-30-2003, 12:27 AM Nope. See the top 5 thread for details.
Gonchar would be a nice addition.
Jerky Leclerc 12-30-2003, 12:38 AM Is Ward out with a groin? That is what is listed on espn boxscore. This might sound like a crazy idea but what about Fedorov? With Havelid gone, we need a puck moving Dman on the blueline.

Interesting idea. Fedorov did play defense for awhile under Bowman in Detroit. But it was as punishment, IIRC, for not playing well as a forward. I don't think Sergei would be too happy with being put on the blueline.
Jerky Leclerc 12-30-2003, 12:56 AM I don't think the Ducks have a choice if Ward is out of the lineup. Fedorov may have to play defense on Weds.
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-30-2003, 12:59 AM Okaay. So what are our options with Ozo out, Havelid in sympathy pains, Popovic and Ward unavailable?
Mottau
Armstrong
Reirden
Brookbank
O'Brien
Alen
Reierson
Mike Mottau is probably the most well-rounded out of that group, since he's second on the team in defenseman scoring (13pts) and is +3. Anderson has 16pts, but is -11.
Brookbank leads all defensemen in plus/minus (+7) and PIMs (102), and has 7 points.
I think I vote for Brookbank.
lux_interior 12-30-2003, 01:12 AM Whoever it is, their ice-time will probably be measured in milli-seconds.
I've never seen any of them play. How big is Brookbank?
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-30-2003, 02:19 AM He's 6'2 and 200 lbs.
Reirden is the biggest at 6-5.
mtyduk8 12-30-2003, 06:07 AM maybe BM tries to make a deal with the NYI for Roman Hamrlik? He's been mentioned in trades for what seems like months now.
Pwnasaurus 12-30-2003, 06:19 AM Nope. See the top 5 thread for details.
Gonchar would be a nice addition.
Yes he would...but that's the equivalent of saying a homeless person would love a meal of caviar and wine. It's wishful but would probably cost us a bundle as well, certainly more than the Comrie offer, ie Getzlaf, Lupul or some package including one of them. Gonchar also makes a king's ransom, which is not to say he is leaps and bounds overpaid but that it is something to consider as well. That being said I would roll out the red carpet for him, but it fears me to think what we would have to part with at this point.
Spankatola Jamnuts 12-30-2003, 09:47 AM We need a top defenseman. Screw getting any help up front; they're beyond help anyway.
I'd easily part with any of our "untouchable" prospects, since we're pretty deep in forward prospects and have zippo for defense prospects. Our problem will still be the same in 2 or 3 years when these guys start playing.

detroit was short defensemen due to injury, sergei had played there once before for bowman.i doubt the ducks have the luxury of using sergei like bowman did,it won't stop jiggy from giving up the softies either.i wonder how badly sergei misses detroit now?the ducks aren't the team they were in the playoffs, the whole nhl knows jiggy can't stop the high shot now as detroit showed in the 1st meeting this yr.i expect more of the same next game.anaheims youth needs to pick up their play-and jiggy needs to get out of his illegal gear before he is caught.
 :handclap:
JS Giguere's equipment is measured regularly by the NHL and everything he has is legal. If you have evidence otherwise, you should post it unless you like making an idiot out of yourself.

actually players have stated they think he cheats, they started enforcing this yr,he is known like other goalies in the past to cheat.this year he might not be but his year hasn't been as good either.perhaps coinicidence,as far as revealing myself as an idiot-i actually worked for a major junior team, and players do cheat-i've SEEN it 1st hand.to suggest that a player wouldn't cheat if he thought he wouldn't get caught seems idiotic to me.bigger gear can stop more shots-stop more shots better results-bigger contract.jiggy has talent no doubt, but the ducks are in for a rough year if the crackdown is affecting him, theodore had a similar letdown after he was suspected of oversized pads last year.those my friend are facts that are undeniable.jiggy may not be cheating but i like many fans know before this year many goalies were, even broduer called a few goalies out.my knowledge is based upon experience 1st hand and knowing that a guy wanting to make it will do more than just practice to improve if he can get away with it.
Jerky Leclerc 12-30-2003, 03:14 PM You may post player's opinions and your own about the size of Giguere's equipment. But do not make an accusation against a player that is untrue/unfounded. If you say Giguere's equipment is illegal, you must provide a source or proof to support your statement. Players such as Wes Walz have made critical remarks about the size of Giguere's equipment or that it needs to be checked. But have you read one statement from a player that accuses Giguere's equipment to be illegal? The same goes for posting on this site.
soya_sauce_chicken 12-30-2003, 03:33 PM his gear was legal last year also..
when countless people accused him of his pads.. a-la detroit and dallas...
he was measured.. everything was good to go..
if you want to complain about size of pads then go the way of Garth Snow last year...
Jshibley 12-30-2003, 03:41 PM I think Motau will most likely be called up, he seems like the best canidate in cincy at the moment. theres no doubt that murray is looking to make a trade for a d-man. Anyone remember me saying we should have signed a UFA d-man in the off-season like Ken Klee? hes having a career year with toronto.

Dude, post counts don't matter, on any board. I've seen a guy get nearly 500 in less than a month, but most were just SPAM and idiotic comments. Comments like the one's you've took the liberty of making here.
As for Jiggy's pads, they're legal. They were measured earlier this season, and were an inch or two below the maximum regulation. His equipment has been checked many times and he is yet to violate regulations. So let's see some evidence next time you make accusations like that one.
Otherwise, you're pretty much just some guy who is in denial that his favorite team was stopped fair-and-square by J-S Giguere.
Jerky Leclerc 12-30-2003, 04:25 PM Gentlemen, lets move beyond a pissing contest between who got a higher post count. Who cares, really. Talk hockey...

Jerky Leclerc 12-30-2003, 05:13 PM With Ozo out for pretty much the season, does this mean we just saved alot of money? Insurance has to cover when a player gets hurt right?

If thats the case, then we can trade for someone in the Ozo price range from a team thats trying to unload some payroll......i really don't know how that works though....i think insurance only covers like half or something......I really don't know though to be honest.

Insurance should cover most of his salary. Since half the season is over, I can assume we have 2.5 mil to spend on a temporary replacement. That opens up alot of options for us.
lux_interior 12-30-2003, 10:47 PM try over 3,000 at redwing central.
What happened, wore out your welcome over there?
With Ozolinsh out, I think the Ducks first priority should be to acquire a defenseman with some good puck skills. Hamrlik or Gonchar would be ideal. In any event, I think it will cost us a pretty penny. That is unless we can luck out on a salary dump situation, like with Ozolinsh.
Puck moving defensemen are at a premium.
Randall Graves* 12-31-2003, 11:53 PM hmm making false accusations when on a weekly basis his pads are measured?
are they big?yes are they illegal? No
Still bitter are we?
