I'm expecting an all-out D effort by Burns, after giving up the first 3 last Friday. NJ isn't scoring much so a 2-1 game sounds about right.

After giving up 9 goals in the last two games against the Isles, I really would like to see the D clamp down tonight. But I have a feeling we'll see another 4-3 game. What is it about the Isles that makes them score like mad against us?

But whether it'll be 1-0 or 6-5, I expect another highly entertaining game tonight...

Brodeur lets in 3 (4th in OT) and still stole the game (& 1 point)

Looks like the groin is still bothering Corey and Ahonen is the backup. Srklac is also out.

It is, but I hate that people use that as ammunition when saying BRodeur success is a product of the system.

Another brisk pace to this game, the Devils really need to slow things down.

Isles on the PP. It's really been ages since YouKnowWho has scored a SH, hasn't it?

you'd think that after losing to them in two such recent games we'd have an idea what it takes to beat them, though.

It'd be nice to generate some offense here before the period ends. Without Marty this game is 3-0, maybe worse...

"I never worry about scoring," Lamoriello said bluntly. "I'm a goals differential person".
"Making a move is not necessary. It's not just getting the most talented player you can. You have to respect your own players as far as how much ice time someone would get, and you have to respect the coach. But, I won't say that my feelings don't change often. They do."NJ.com".

Lou like to be posture like this, but he knows what this team needs: A RW scorer {Bondra} a C {Frrancis,Zhamnov} plus the return of our inj. guys would put this team back to the level of the '00 team.

I read that article in the Star Ledger today and said the same thing you did above. Just a matter of time before the offense is shored up with something a little more reliable. Larionov's not bringing enough to the team at even strength. PELi was bang on many months ago when he said this team needs Ray Whitney bad. Its too bad Detroit beat us to the punch.

Speaking of Larionov was hit with the puck on his ankle and went to the trainer's room, but it most likely is just a bruise.

Only chance we have of seeing a comeback is if this team does what NY did in the 1st period. Crash the net and get good shots on goal from in close with the hopes of a nice juicy rebound.

The NYI are playing their best hockey of the season right now, while NJ lost something during the Christmas break. A mini slump maybe but the goals are hard to come by right now. Can't expect Brodeur to steal every game unfortunately.

Edit: Devils are taking way to many penalties these past few games.

Hey folks...sorry about that.
I know it's not much consolation...but don't much know what else to say.
I'd like to say "good game"...but I know that none of you thought it was, and I'm not going to insult your intelligents by sending halfhearted sentiments that I know aren't true.

Don't exactly know what the problem is for you when you face us, except to say that some of your players allow our pests (i.e Jason Blake) get to them...even Stevens was coming a little unravelled and he is typically a very disciplined player. Usually the one getting the calls in fact.

We seem to have Brodeur's number as another poster mentioned...and also somebody made a point about missing Daneyko, and I have to agree....his veteran leadership comes in handy for games like this.
But players can't play forever, he was an old timer....

Anyhow, won't blab too much, as I'm sure you don't even want to be hearing from an Isles fan...but wanted to send my condolences...and wish you the best on your next game.

happy New Year everyone.
Don't drink and Drive...

Exactly. I think we'll be just fine. :p

We don't need to peak in late December, though pissing away points to inferior teams can be frustrating. I don't really view this as a loss to the Isles, but simply a loss of two points.

I hope your expectaions weren't too high.

I think we should rest White and put Albelin back in the line-up.
I also think Skrlac should play the next game against the Islanders in case they decide to get cutesy.
This was a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad game for the Devils...Philly tied Dallas tonight, so that's another point lost to them.
Anyone for Wade Brookbank?

Here's the big problem in my mind. The whole league knows that Igor Larionov's not going to shoot the puck on the PP. He's out there looking for the perfect pass, but our goal scorers are having problems staying hot for a stretch longer then 4 or 5 games if that. Against the Pittsbrugh Penguins the other night, Larionov and Martin took turns passing the puck back and forth to one another until their shift was just about over. Devils had a 4 minute power play and it was a virtual passing drill with no finishers in plain view until Pandolfo buries one with like a second left just making the smart heads up play skating to the front of the crease. No one wanted to take any initiative at the point. Fischler believes the key to our PP lies with Friesen at the point, but I think he's better suited in close quite frankly.
