NHL All-Star Teams: No Selanne?

I know a lot of Ducks fans are disappointed that Pahlsson, Niedermayer, and Pronger didn't win any awards tonight, but it's really no surprise. Lidstrom was a huge favorite to win the Norris, and most hockey writers and fans didn't know how good Pahlsson is until this year's playoffs (and the voting is done before the playoffs). Besides, the Selke always goes to a high scoring player anyway.

However, the one true surprise and disappointment for me tonight was that Selanne was left off the 2nd All-Star team in favor of Martin St. Louis. Sure, St. Louis is a great player and had more points than Selanne, but Selanne had more goals, a much better plus/minus, and led his team to compete for the Presidents Trophy (as opposed to just barely making the playoffs for St. Louis).

Am I overreacting here, or does anyone agree with me that Selanne got robbed? (Not that he cares, as he won the Stanley Cup.)

Not robbery. That's a close call between St. Louis and Selanne. You could even throw Iginla in the mix. Tough call all around.

No. I felt the same way. I feel the East Coast bias with these awards has been appalling. Notice all six forwards were on the East coast.

But it comes right down to it, Scotty, Sammy, Teemu and Prongs all got something that every other player in the league wanted and that's all that really matters. Not what a bucnh of hockey writers and broadcasters think.

No surprise here, he could be included but I am sure those players deserve their spot as well.

You could argue either way. I definetly wouldn't say he got robbed, but I could see why you might be upset as Ducks fan. You could also make a very strong case for Iginla too though, also Jagr and Hossa. Really a toss up, and it just happened to be St. Louis. All 6 forwards from east isn't a surprise as its much higher scoring in the east, but I would have thought Thornton would have made the 2nd team. Here would be my picks
1st
Brodeur
Lidstrom
Pronger
Heatley
Crosby
Ovechkin

2nd
Luongo
Niedermayer
Boyle (good choice, I always kind of forget about him, but he is really good)
Iginla
Thornton
Vanek

Dan Boyle? Who cancelled?

Who would you prefer over him? He is great on the PP, and is strong defensively.

Don't get me wrong, he's a good player, he's just not really "postseason all-star" caliber. But this year, aside from the Big Three there really wasn't anyone who was. He's as good a selection as any for the #4 spot. I probably would have voted for Kaberle or Bouwmeester for that spot.
