MN_Gopher 06-11-2007, 03:33 AM This is pretty neet. Didn't know if you wanted in a new thread or to the amateur one. Sounds like he is doing all the right things.

JDevils3 06-11-2007, 03:44 PM I hope he can trim some of that baby-fat. It can only help his game.
He has a really busy summer. Camps, classes, working out, etc.
Hopefully he can turn that hard work into a big season.

He's slated to be the Gophers starter next year, right? Hopefully he finds some consistency and has a big year.

He'll be the number 1. Though Alex Kangas will provide competition.

He should start anywhere from 30-40 games. He played in the three biggest games we had last year. Winning two of them and certainly giving us a chance in the third.
One problem i see with him if he plays super soild is, is NJ going to try and sign him early or let him stay in the NCAA all 4 years. tDon always his eye on the big picture. If Frazee is likely gone he may play Kangas more just so next next year we will have a guy that has gotten some exposre.
I like the article becaue he comes across as just a cool guy. Posting on a fan site like that.

I see absolutely no reason why the Devils would want him to leave early. Marty will be around a lot longer and the Devils have three goalies (Doyle, Parise, Smith) for their AHL team next year so they've already got a logjam there.

I agree 100%. As of right now, he is the future in goal, and there is no need to rush him along. That all being said, this is very important year for Frazee in his development. He needs to show he is able to handle the job as #1 goaltender and give the Devils organization the confidence that he is indeed "the man" for the future.
MoonDragn 06-13-2007, 11:02 AM Who do you think is better out of that bunch? Frazee, Parise, Doyle or Smith?

I've never seen any of them play, but from what I've heard - Frazee, hands down. I'd probably rank them like this (in terms of future potential):
Frazee
Parise
Smith
Doyle
I think Frazee is probably the only one who has the potential be a NHL starter. I don't know much about Smith, maybe he could be flipped with Parise.
MoonDragn 06-13-2007, 11:19 AM I haven't seen any of them play either, but from all that I've read about them so far, your assessment is pretty good. I think Jordan Parise will also end up in the NHL, I think he's got a nice future in front of him.
Franzee could definately develop into Brodeur's replacement when he finally retires.
Jason MacIsaac 06-13-2007, 12:03 PM Jason Smith has performed much better then Frazee so far in their college careers, Frazee has the instincts, quickness and the reaction type goaltending sense but Smith seems to stop the puck better.

Pretty good goalie prospect. He was the reason why USA won 3rd or was it 4th place (do not remember I think 3rd) in WJC. He was especially good in that shot out loss against Canada. Not on Price or Montoya level but still pretty damn good.
fluffernutter mf 06-13-2007, 02:59 PM Who do you think is better out of that bunch? Frazee, Parise, Doyle or Smith?
I think Parise is the best of the four, followed by Frazee. I can see him -Parise- being back up for Brodeur in a few seasons.

I've seen all four play either on TV or in person, and I actually agree that Parsie is the best of the four... at least for now. Frazee definately has the most potential. He has got nice tools but his head has really been the problem for the past two seasons. Though, he does seem to be slowly maturing. I was hoping that his WJC performance would lead to great things at the end of last season. While, he was solid, he still seemed to have some lapses.
Fan of The Game 06-13-2007, 04:02 PM I really like Frazee, I do hope he loses a little weight.
MoonDragn 06-13-2007, 04:32 PM heh, if we can get Jordan on the team as backup for brodeur, we'll have a brother team like the ducks do. Offense/defense.

It must be that every time I tuned into a Gophers game last season, Frazee had somewhat of a sub-par performance in the games I watched him play in (I will say, I didn't watch a whole lot of them). I hear so many great things about this kid, and how his game is just fantastic, but I still haven't seen it yet.
I haven't seen Smith play, I haven't seen Doyle play yet, but I did follow his numbers last season. Of course I love Parise...I've been a HUGE fan of both brothers since their college days. Watching Jordan grow as much as he did as a goaltender during his 3 years at UND and his progression in his first AHL season gives me a lot to hope for in regards to his future.
I guess I've been lacking on my research on our prospects. Next year I will be watching more Gopher games, seeing as Frazee will be their #1.
Blue_and_White 06-16-2007, 10:25 PM If you look at the last 2 years Doyle has played a total of 108 games for the River Rats and Devils. During that time his won lost record has not been great but if you check the magazine Goalies World (http://www.goaliesworld.com/) you'll see that this year he ranked 5th of all AHL goalies and last year he was 3rd. Their rankings take into account all stats and eliminate to some degree the won lost record of a goalie. Seems like pretty consitent performance that rivals any other goalie in the AHL.
NJD1982 06-21-2007, 04:31 PM With all this talent which still is getting better. The Devils have a bright future in goaltending.
Oilers Chick 06-21-2007, 04:51 PM I've seen all four play quite a bit at the collegiate level. They're all very good goaltenders, and it looks like Parise and Doyle are faring well in the pros thus far. I really like Jason Smith. Nothing fancy or spectacular, but for the most part he has good fundamentals and his consistency hzs been there, especially in his last two years at SHU. He's also a really level-headed, soft-spoken guy.
As for Frazee, the thing I was impressed with the most this season with the Gophers was his maturity level. He began playing like the talent goalie that he is and did so relatively consistently. Sure, he had some bad nights but at least he's growing up (maturity-wise). Next season, I expect him to be even better.

Smith didn't start until his junior year, and didn't have very phenomenal stats for the most part until his senior season. So far, Frazee has put up great numbers during the action he has seen against better competition in the NCAA, as well as coming up big in international play in the WJC. I'd say that based on each's career after their sophomore season, Frazee is ahead by leaps and bounds.

Just wondering how you figure he is leaps and bounds ahead of Smith, because he is a 2nd round pick and played WJC? Have you seen both play, do you know the strengths and weaknesses of both...if not its useless to speculate. I know with Frazee the problem isn't the skills its whats in his head, that is the hardest issue to deal with.

Well, look at the fact that Frazee split time as a starter on one of the top teams in the nation as a sophomore, whereas Smith did not start full time on a much, much weaker team until his junior year. Frazee seems to have had a lot more success up to this point in his career than Smith did.
But then again, you're probably right, as usual.

Luckily when I think of Frazee I think of him being undefeated for the US except for skills competitions.
