Hey Duck fans, how's the cup being treated in Anaheim?

Hey Duck fans, Flames fan here. I'm just curious how the cup win is being treated down in Anaheim by the general population. Was the game on in bars? Did people talk about it all the morning after? Did people join together to watch the game at all? How about in the media? Is there any general buzz?

Up here in Canada, the media has inundated us with things like interviews with people on the streets of Anaheim who when asked: "Who is Scott Niedermyer?" they reply: "I don't know, an actor???" And when they went to the Honda Center to interview autograph seekers, it was just a dozen people and it turns out they were on holiday from Canada.

I'd love to hear some stories to the otherwise or would be encouraging of how hockey is doing in Anaheim.

Thanks!

I saw Canadian reporters interview knowledgable Ducks fans. Surprising none of those interviews ever made it to print. You put two and two together.

There's a ton of coverage, everybody knows about it, people ask me about it and congratulate me at work all the freakin time.

The Canadian media is a retarded, bitter, self-loathing thing, defensive and transparent in its inferiority.

Shawn Thornton said he's going golfing with the cup and using it as a marker so people will have to hit around it....

Why would people be hanging out at the Honda Center when the season was over to get autographs? Maybe tomorrow during the parade, but it doesn't make sense to just hang out there and hope somebody walks by.

Thinly veiled fan bashing post?

The media is just jealous that all 12 of us Ducks fans get 2 hours with the cup each.

How's it being treated you ask?

It was taken to the vomit-scented bro-bar known as Sharkeez Newps last night.

This is not a thinly veiled fan-bash or a thickly-veiled fan bash for that matter; it's just where the Cup was last night. If the Kings ever win the Cup, they will probably take it to the vomit-scented bro-bar known as Sharkeez Hermosa.

The entire team, or most of them, were down there to take pictures with the Cup on the sand and the pier. I am extremely disapointed in the OC Register's coverage of the Duck's victory as there should have been stories about the Cup going to HB and then to Newport, even if it was in the Local/Metro section. This is perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime event (I can only hope ;) ) and it should be treated as such.

Sigh.

I mean, I hate the Ducks but I am passionately in love with hockey and would love for the sport to be huge down here. Not following the Cup's adventures around Orange County is a big mistep by the local media IMO.

Speaking of which, does anyone know of where we can keep track of where the cup is/is going to be? Like I know the hhof website has a blog of where it was. But it'd be great to keep track of any scheduled appearances, hopefully I can be there for one.

Man nobody in California has even heard of hockey. I tried talking about hockey at work once, and people were like, "is that the game they play in England with the big flat bat that goes on forever...?"

I told all my friends "The Ducks won the Cup." and they were like, "what cup?". And I said, "zOMG, I can't B-leive you don't know what the cup is. The STANLEY Cup." They had never heard of it.

The Cup doesn't deserve to get treated like this. Send it back to Canada where it belongs.

oh..... :sarcasm:

Well to be fair King Beauch probably wasn't in full King attire.

doesnt matter. That dude scored us a goal in gm 5. Every duck fan should know what he looks like. I remember in 2006 i got to help out Rucchin, Salei, and Giguere twice when they came to the Staples store i work at. Lol the LA Kings calenders they send us some how always gets a couple strips of white out on the cover. i wonder who would damage those la kings calenders ?:naughty:

I wore my old (last years third) jersey to work and Wednesday. I am a Courier for a legal service. I Deliver in Beverly hills, Century City, and Santa Monica. Mostly to Law firms. I swear everyone I saw in elevators, hallways, lobbies, and on the street. Said hey hey, or something about the coming possible cup grab! I was blown away at the response. Having read nothing but negative stuff on the internet. I have been sporting a full on beard for a few years now because my wife is totally into it, and the last few days I have had three people say Hey you look just like Niedermyer. 2 by name the other was "that hockey guy" People are not as clueless as the northern neighbor would have you believe.

Thanks for the first real substantive post regarding my question. No, it was not a veiled insult. I'm a fan of hockey the game first, and then my indiviual team. I remember how popular the mighty ducks movies were a decade ago (at least up here) and I always think of the ducks and wonder if anything has rubbed off. I love hearing good stories about people recognizing hockey or being excited about hockey in different places in the U.S.
