Yah I saw that. Weirdness. I mean, he is still in his prime and has two years left on his contract.

I can't imagine it being true.

If anyone was to retire from the Ducks roster... wouldn't it be Teemu?

Think about how tired Scott is physically though, I am actually surprised he can play 30mins a game so effortless.

Wouldn't surprise me. He doesn't strike me as a guy who's life revolves around hockey. He'd likely be content to just stay at home with his family. He wanted to play and win a Cup with his brother. Mission accomplished. What's left?

I think someones pulling someones leg. I can't see Scott quitting now with a team that looks prime for a repeat

Total rumor. There's no way Scotty will retire now. Sure there's not a whole lot more he can accomplish but why stop now? Him and his brother have a couple more chances to raise the Cup. Plus it's hard to imagine he'd throw away 13 and a half million dollars as well. The man ain't stupid.

What's left? Winning a second Cup with his brother. As long as Robbie is on the Ducks, his big brother will play alongside him. All this talk about retirement is rubbish.

We've seen weirder stuff happen. I wouldn't count anything out.

He does look like he is still prime shape so it wouldn't hurt for him to play longer and to win a couple of more cups

In as much as there are 29 other teams hoping its true I just dont see it. Winning it is one thing, now its time to defend it. Teemu might be the exception to that since he had stated before he might pull an Elway and go out as champ if the Ducks were to win the cup. Scotty Nieds.....I doubt it! Plus there are several million other reasons to return.

I dunno, I can't see it. He's still got a couple years left on his deal, and, I see Scotty as one of those guys who'll continue playing as long as he feels like. And, I'm guessing that he still feels like playing for a bit.

Hey did you guys hear that the lunar landing in 1969 was actually taped in a Burbank TV studio?

Who retires at 34 anymore? This isn't the 80's.

Interesting thing is Scotty didn't look so good this year. Great numbers and all, but I feel like he made a lot more mistakes (by more I mean a few) compared to last year (almost none). And in the playoffs he made some mistakes and didn't look to be skating as well in the beginning. One wonders if the years and big minutes have been taking a toll on him.

But he still had a great year, with a Norris nomination and everything, so I doubt he retires.

What hasn't Scott done?

Won back to back cups, based on his comments I don't see it happening. He said he feels as good as he ever has after a cup run and he's said many times how much he loves playing with his brother and being able to be with him, well if he retires during the season they won't see each other nearly as much.

Dreger and McKenzie were talking about it on TSN yesterday, said it wouldn't surprise them and that they had heard rumblings that should Scott win the cup with his brother, he would definitly consider hanging them up. I can't see it but as one of the posters said, Scott definitly doesn't seem to let his life revolve around hockey. What else CAN he accomplish?

It's not something that I would expect, but I also wouldn't be too surprised if it happened. Niedermayer has done everything he can possibly do and then some.

What else can he do? Keep playing maybe?

The guy's 34. Nobody retires at 34 unless they have to. Professional athletes don't say, "meh, that's enough. This is boring."

He's probably going to play out his contract. After that, I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, Teemu and Scott could retire on top right now, but they've both got to realize this isn't a sinking ship. It is entirely possible they could retire on top 2 years from now. They both have reached their goal: Teemu a Cup, Scott a Cup with his brother. Now is a chance to add to their legacies.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me. Scott is a family guy, he has nothing left to accomplish. He goes out on the top as one of the top10 d-men of all time.

What else can he get? 4th cup? Ok that would be nice but still...

At age 36/37, that's a time frame I could see him deciding that the grind isn't all it used to be, with at least four Cups, a Norris, a Conn Smythe, and handing the Cup off to his brother on his resume.

I can't see it at 34, though, not in the middle of a sweet contract and playing for a very good team that doesn't look like it will be broken up. Playing on a stacked team just never seems like a chore the way it can in the dog days of February when you've lost your last five games in a row. It's still grueling and demanding, but nonetheless rewarding.

This smacks of a rumor someone all but made up. That or, more charitably, someone got Niedermayer and Selanne mixed up along the way.

I know what he needs to add to his resume...a President's Trophy! Yeah, he needs to come back to make the Ducks the #1 team in the league during the regular season too!

If he wins one or two more cups he will pretty much go down as a legend and he's playing so well and has so much money left to collect ;)

Worst case scenario for the Ducks is both Niedermayers retire, Teemu retires and Giguere leaves via free agency. Anaheim suffers the same fate as Carolina and I think this is a trend in the new cap era, you win you lose key pieces.
