Former Penguin Goalie DevilsFan38 06-07-2007, 05:26 PM Awesome news, it's always good to hear about prospects doing well. Especially goal scoring prospects, we can always use those. Darius Dangleaitis 06-07-2007, 05:42 PM Nice hopefully he makes it. thomasincanada 06-08-2007, 02:32 PM FYI - he's a knight now. Superfly Jimmy Snuka 06-08-2007, 02:44 PM confirmed that....left cornell to join the evil empire of junior hockey haha ReLyT 06-08-2007, 03:14 PM anyone have any info on him other then stats? Rochester22 06-08-2007, 08:11 PM anyone have any info on him other then stats? yeah. here are some positives and negatives about him. He is a great stickhandler(although very raw), has great acceleration with good speed. Is very agile, is overly flashy, will try and make the deke in his own blue line, and will circle with the puck, if he does not find room, to pass or shoot. He needs to learn to pass more often, and is a gambler, sometimes will try and deke the whole team out. Is not afraid of contact, but is not going to initiate it. Only 5'10" 180 tho. That said he is a good teammate, works hard, and has a great attitude. Rochester22 06-08-2007, 08:35 PM Also lets pray Corrente doesn't knock Romano out cold next year. knock on wood Jonathan. 06-08-2007, 08:41 PM Great for him. He really deserves it. Not sure if he makes the team this year but I think he's still eligible for the team NEXT year also since he will only be 19 when the tournament starts with his January birth date. Jonathan. 06-08-2007, 08:43 PM confirmed that....left cornell to join the evil empire of junior hockey haha I wonder why he did that, too. I'm not sure it's a great thing since I really feel he needs to work on his defense quite a bit as it's a very weak spot of his, AFAIC. Playing on an offensive powerhouse like the Knights won't help him learn his own zone any better. But if they pair him with Kane and Gagner, he could put up well over 100 points. Darius Dangleaitis 06-09-2007, 12:17 AM Wow, now I'm real pumped to see how this kid develops. Jonathan. 06-09-2007, 12:34 AM Just for the sake of argument, here would be MY 2007 WJC U20 team: Forwards (13): James vanRiemsdyk Patrick Kane (might be in the NHL) Colin Wilson Kyle Okposo Billy Sweatt Patrick White Tony Romano TJ Galiardi Peter Mueller (probably will be in Phoenix) Mike Carman Blake Geoffrion Rhett Rakhshani Eric Tangradi Defense (7) Jamie McBain Chris Summers Bobby Sanguinetti Kevin Quick Mike Ratchuk Kevin Montgomery Ian Cole Goalies (2) Jeremy Smith Kent Patterson Although, I don't think that Montgomery, Patterson, Romano, Sanguinetti, or Tangradi will make the team because of political reasons and the decisions that we've seen the Team USA brass make in the past with regards to "safer" players as opposed to higher skilled guys. A 4th line of Romano with Tangradi and Carman would be a tenacious line with a pretty good backchecker and two guys to put the puck in. A safe line that could score. I have completely lost faith in Team USA for building a contending team, however. Expect to see top tier CHL guys like Romano, Tangradi, and Sanguinetti left off the team and crappy, safe guys in their place. thomasincanada 06-09-2007, 09:27 AM Although, I don't think that Montgomery, Patterson, Romano, Sanguinetti, or Tangradi will make the team because of political reasons and the decisions that we've seen the Team USA brass make in the past with regards to "safer" players as opposed to higher skilled guys. Honestly, nothing I've seen from Montgomery leads me to believe he's a WJC caliber player anyway. Rochester22 06-09-2007, 10:58 AM Quotes from Romano: "I know what I'm leaving but you only play 30 games at Cornell and it takes more than that to get to the next level," said the five-foot-10, 180-pound Romano, who was enrolled in pre-law while playing for the Big Red. "I was used to playing 60, 70 games a season so it was a big change for me. I love hockey and I want to play as many games as I can." "Vladimir is a big supporter of the OHL and he loves what the London Knights have done and their approach to the game," Romano said. "I started following the Knights and you watch what they do with five forwards on the power play for two minutes straight and it draws your attention. The defensive guys probably don't like it too much but as an offensive player, you love it." "As a 19-year-old, I'm still considered a rookie but I'm also an older player and there's the expectation of being a leader," Romano said. "I want to come in and do what I can. I'm excited about the opportunity to play here. I've played in front of big crowds before (6,000-plus in U.S. college games)." Sounds like he wanted to play in more games, and if thats the case who can blame him? i mean only 30 in the NCAA while he could rack up 80+ in the OHL if I'm not mistaken. Jonathan. 06-09-2007, 11:58 AM Honestly, nothing I've seen from Montgomery leads me to believe he's a WJC caliber player anyway. I think he's certainly better than guys like Strait and a few others who would likely get the nod over him. The US bottom 2 defense this year will not be a big strength as all the guys are on the same level, really. The top 4, if they have guys like Sanguinetti, Summers, and McBain could be a pretty solid group, though. ReLyT 06-09-2007, 08:34 PM It's ridiculous how everyone just says the Knights play nothing but 110% offence. Last couple seasons he's used what he has and thats a average or just below averag defence. But Hunter doesn't let a player coast 100% of the time. He took Sergei Kostitsyn from a one way never cross the blue line european. To an intense two way hockey player. Also mentioned above is Bolland and Fritche... but also what about Rob Drummond who was voted amongst top pk'ers in the league last two years Trevor Kell was also always in that category. Some people hear one thing on these boards and blow it up... my pet peeve of the last week.. dzanimal16 06-09-2007, 08:41 PM Just for the sake of argument, here would be MY 2007 WJC U20 team: Forwards (13): James vanRiemsdyk Patrick Kane (might be in the NHL) Colin Wilson Kyle Okposo Billy Sweatt Patrick White Tony Romano TJ Galiardi Peter Mueller (probably will be in Phoenix) Mike Carman Blake Geoffrion Rhett Rakhshani Eric Tangradi Defense (7) Jamie McBain Chris Summers Bobby Sanguinetti Kevin Quick Mike Ratchuk Kevin Montgomery Ian Cole Goalies (2) Jeremy Smith Kent Patterson Although, I don't think that Montgomery, Patterson, Romano, Sanguinetti, or Tangradi will make the team because of political reasons and the decisions that we've seen the Team USA brass make in the past with regards to "safer" players as opposed to higher skilled guys.
