15E or W will get you there. From the shore, I recommend hopping on the train at Bayhead.

From the map on the brochure, it looks like you can take exit14 to 78 to 21 or exit 15e to raymond blvd which leads right into market st. Pg 5 is the map.

All my family from Monmouth are planning on taking the train. We are actually dropping the parking passes from our tickets as nobody expects to drive as much, except myself but I may find a train alternative as well.

From maryland, drive to the Princeton, New Brunswick or other train station in Central Jersey right off the Turnpike and take NJ Transit train to Newark on the Northeast Corridor line.

It depends on the day of the week, but you would avoid a lot of possible gridlock on the Turnpike and other North Jersey highways, which can get backed up during the work-week.

On top of that I heard games will begin at 7:00 instead of 7:30. Hope, there will be a train scheduled to come back down to the shore upon completion of the game (including ot if necessary). Sounds like plan

That is what I am thinking. I haven't had too much trouble coming up in the past. I will probably try the train at least once this season.

Yes, you take the Pascack to Secacus Junction and take that train into Newark Penn Station OR Newark Broad Street Station (then take subway to Penn Station)

If you want to make life really easy for yourself, drive to an Amtrak station in Maryland and take them directly to Newark Penn.

I'd actually get off at 13A and take Rt 81 NB (unmarked) to 1&9 NB, and then take Rt 21 NB into Newark. That way you can avoid most of the mess on the TPK that exists around the airport. I also think it's the shorter route.

You can change at Secaucus but I don't think the train would be a great option for you because Pascack Valley service is so infrequent. There is a train that leaves Secaucus at 8:30 and the next one isn't until after 11. And of course there is no weekend service at all.

As for the OP, I don't know where in Monmouth/Ocean you live but I would seriously look into taking the train. The Coast Line goes right into Newark Penn Station and runs pretty frequently.

I think 15E. I think Raymond Blvd is going to be the best way in, most people
aren't going to think of it, they're going to take 21 or 280.

I used it when I went to school, IIRC, there's no (or very few) traffic lights coming
into Newark. I think sometime this summer, I'm going to find a day with an event at NJPAC that is sure to draw and "practice" getting into the area to see what the best way is.

But, I'm coming from the north, though, so YMMV.

You could just take I-95 to Hamilton/Trenton stations and park there or just drive up to Bay Head, Manasquan, etc.(<--you'd have to switch at Long Branch at these 2 stations though)

The Pascack Valley does not run to Secaucus after 9am on weekdays, and there's no weekend service(despite the last train leaving Secaucus to Port Jervis around 11pm weeknights.). So anyone near this line would have 3 options: 1) #76 bus between Hackensack and Mulberry St., 2) Drive to a station along the Bergen County Line and hope there are spaces there or 3) Park/ride at the Tonnelle Ave. light rail station in North Bergen, take a train to Exchange Place and take the Path to Newark.

You do NOT want to drive down there during rush hour. So unless you really have to drive, use mass transit; it's why they built it in that area.

I go to school in Washington, so I plan on doing that at least once in the season. If you book it in advance, you can probably get a round trip for around 80 dollars.

Yeah, unforutunately PeteNJ is right. The Pascack Valley Line is strictly a commuter line: trains go to Hoboken in the morning and come the other way back in the afternoon and evening. The problem is there is only 1 track, which can only accomodate trains going in 1 direction at all times. NJ Transit is in the final stages of planning and will very shortly build what they call "sidings", which will be strips of adjacent tracks at various intervals, so in this way they can move some trains over to these sidings, and thus accomodate more frequent trains and service going in both directions at all times. This will also enable them to introduce weekend service as well.

Number 3 might be an option. I live in CT and work in White plains ny, I thought maybe I could head over the Tappan zee and grab a train up there, I will look into the Tonnelle Ave rail station idea. thanks.

Suffern, NY is on the Bergen Cty. Line. You could use that, just switch at Secaucus. North Bergen is too far of a ride from your area, and unlike Tonnelle Ave, Suffern has FREE parking after 4pm and on weekends. http://www.njtransit.com/rg/rg_servlet.srv#

Just looking at a map real quick, Suffern is 24 miles from White Plains. So you will have a pretty long drive back to CT. It would be more of a pain in the ass but it may save you time to just park at White Plains Metro North and then walk/subway between GCT and Penn Station and then take PATH or NJT to Newark. Just playing around with trip planner, if you leave Newark Penn Station on a 9:33 train you will get to Suffern at 11:02 with a transfer at Secaucus. If you stay on the train into New York you will have 35 minutes to get between Penn and GCT and arrive in White Plains at 11:17. I don't know about costs and having to get between Penn and GCT is annoying but saving driving 50 miles is a good thing with what gas costs.

Why don't you take MetroNorth from CT or Westchester to Grand Central, take the shuttle to Penn Station, and then jump onto NJ Transit to Newark?

Why don't you take MetroNorth from CT or Westchester to Grand Central, take the shuttle to Penn Station, and then jump onto NJ Transit to Newark?

It's almost an hour and a half train just to grand central from me (I'm on the NY border so I would pick it up in Brewster) and its $20 per person off peak. then you have to shuttle to Penn and then jump on NJT. And then coming back the trains home only run every hour so if you miss the 10:30 you have to wait until 11:30. My ride home from the arena was only an hour and a half. With tolls and gas the prices in all honestly probably even out when its two of us, driving will probably cost less when there's more. Plus I don't want to get home at 1 because I missed a 10:30 train when I could have been home an hour earlier than that you know what I mean. i was hoping to find something on the other side of the hudson that was maybe a half hour train into newark that ran regularly. Its no big deal, heck when I lived just outside the city I drove an hour to edison NJ just to play hockey, an hour and a half to see the Devils is no biggie. Was just trying to see if there was an easier alternative but if I have to take the train to the subway to the train and back, probably not worth it. Thanks for the info though guys.

I try to hit a few games each year, but its hard balancing that with my own hockey schedule and the little unimportant things called classes. Couldn't go to either Devil game this year because of games. Go to a Caps Pens game if you can, its usually about half Pens fans and they're the nicest fans of any divisional team.

Classes are overrated, hockey is much more important. I like how they give a college discount at Verizon too. I have been out of college for 2 years, but I still use my ID to get cheaper tix.

I have been to plenty Caps/Pens games in my lifetime. I've grown up going to Caps games; my dad is a big Caps fan and my brother is a Pens fan. I have had a different experience with Pens fans, some are cool, but I have had some bad ones.
