So where is the Alfredsson suspension? That was worse than Bernie Nicholls...

This is a question being asked on other forums:

Their recollection is that NJ Devil Bernie Nicholls shoots at a guy's foot and is suspended against the Rangers. The NY papers are in an uproar, and the Devils lose a key player during a critical playoff stretch.

Alfredsson shoots the puch at Scott Neidermayer's upper body and the league turns the other cheek?

If I was a Duck fan, I would be feeling pretty ripped off right about now. And hey... isn't Ottawa really the big market team in this series? At least the Canadian TV partner pays a rights fee and delivers huge ratings.

EDIT: Actually, looking back, I'm not sure that Nicholls was suspended for shooting the puck. It may have been for cross-checking. Was that cross-check in the same gam,e? Does anyone remember more than me? I try to forget that series.

It's the power of the media. We saw it earlier this year. Janssen throws a borderline hit at a maple leaf, and gets suspended 3 games. If someone threw the same hit against a player from a team like Nashville, Anaheim, or anyone in the Southeast division, there might be a light fine and nothing more.

Nothing against Canadian teams, but they do tend to get away with more than most other teams. It seems that every time an American team -maing a team from the states- plays a Canadian team, the Canadian team is less penalized, while the American team gets penalties for things that didn't even happen. Had Neidermayer shot that puck at Alfredson, he would have at least gotten a penalty, if not a suspention.

Nichols shot a puck at Kovalev's face while he was prone on the ice and then one at Glen Anderson's head at the end of the game almost exactly like Alfredson. I honestly don't remember what and if he got suspended thought but I remember the plays clearly. One of the few players ever to wear a Devils jersey who I really disliked.

Alfredsson is a cocky little ass. Never liked the guy. His impression of Mats Sundin was another one of his classless moves.

What was this?

What was this?Sundin has tossed his stick into the crowd earlier in the season, and Alfredsson jokingly threatened to throw his broken stick into the stands in a 7-1 Ottawa win against Toronto on January 8, 2004. I found that hilarious, btw.

it has nothing to do with who is the big market, the media, and all that crap. you guys are taking this way too far

im not saying it wasnt a dick move, but theres no way in hell theyd be able to suspend him because they "think" he shot it at Nieds.

It was a stupid thing to do. I don't think he should be suspended, but I did lose a lot of respect for Alfredsson.

he shot it into his shinpads. Should have been a 2 minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Or he should have gotten his arse beaten by the Ducks.

Not even close to suspension-worthy.

If they saw it happen -which, I don't understand how they didn't-, they wouldn't think he shot it at Neidermayer, the would know.

How was it not borderline? It was a clean hit, just late by a fraction of a second.

replay showed that hit to take place .6 seconds after he passed the puck - get facts before you post in a devils forum about a devil if you're ignorant about the subject.
