The Devils had 11 selections at the 2002 NHL Draft, but just like the 2001 Draft, they were unable to capitalize on the abundance of selections they had at their disposal as only enforcer Cam Janssen has established himself as an NHL player.

No prob!:)....Yeah the 01 and 02 drafts certainly were not up to the drafting standard that most other Devils drafts had been in years past....Good thing we've been able to find good rookie free agents like Greene and Clarkson to kind of help offset those sub-par drafting years....

If they aren't careful this year, the '07 draft could end up being unfortunately similar to the '02 draft (no first rounder).

Wow that was an ugly year. I love what Cam brings, but when he's the top player from that draft year...

I know the Devils' scouting gets a lot of props from around the league, but honestly, they've been doing a terrible job over the past few years. I'm certainly not liking the prospect situation. Why? Because we don't have any top notch prospects in our organization.

Kind of hard when you're drafting the Matt Corrente's of the world and don't have a pick high enough to draft a Sidney Crosby.....I guess that's the price we pay for having a great regular season team.

Where did the 2002 1st round pick go?

Where did the 2002 1st round pick go?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe it went to Dallas in that big deadline deal that saw us land Nieuwendyk and Langenbrunner....

Zach Parise and Travis Zajac aren't enough as finds? It's not often to see first rounders make a big impact that quickly.

If that's the case, it was well spent.

That is correct

Jason Arnott, Randy McKay and a 1st round pick

for

Jamie Langenbrunner and Joe Nieuwendyk

dallas then traded that first rounder to buffalo in I think teh barnes deal,

they did however select Dan Paille, he would look real good right now in Madden's spot that's for sure.

i'd agree that this year probably wont turn out great. this year's draft is reportedly much weaker than recent drafts.

Wow, what a horrible job by Conte and crew that year. But who's surprised?
Aside from Zajac and Parise, none of our high draft picks have made any impact in the last 6 or so seasons.
I always hated the Kadeykin pick when he wasn't even on the central scouting board.
I thought Tallackson would have been better than what he has shown, same thing for the dude from Finland.
Conte was horrid in that draft.

Um 1st round picks arent "finds" and having a 1st round pick pan out doesnt get you a pay raise or a parade. the point is that outside Parise and Zajac who is really making an impact since the 2000 draft (paul martin), the answer nobody. and the draft before that sucked as well. i also dont completely buy the whole late 1st round excuse. plenty of other teams face this same problem, especially since for Conte who is considered a "great" scout. the real test is "finding" players outside the 1st round which NJ has failed miserably in the past 8 years.

As i have mentioned before our European scouting is pathetic and needs an overhaul for starters.

Our drafting has been pretty terrible lately, but we have been able to add Clarkson, Pelley, and Greene as undrafted free agents.
