Crusher20 06-02-2007, 10:43 AM what kind of player do you expect him to be? I seems to have enjoy quite a good rookie year, do you expect him to improve drastically his numbers? have a sophomore jiinx or else?
please any feed back will be appreciated. (other than Carey Price sucks.) ;)
Devilswede 06-02-2007, 11:01 AM Zajac had a pretty good year and was a pleasant surprise for us. 17 goals and 42 points isn't that bad on a horrendeus Devils offense this year.
What was most impressive about him was his defensive game and his discipline. He had only 16 PIM this year. His positioning is great for a young kid and rarely gets beaten in his own end. He protects the puck well but could also improve in that depratment.
He's got a big body and should use it more and be physical. I think he'll work on that and he'll get even better. I don't think there will be a sophomore slump for him, he's just too solid in both zones just to drop off like that.
He was much better than Zach Parise was in his rookie year. If Zajac takes another step just like Parise did this year, then Zajac will be a top player in this league in the near future.
He was probably the best two-way rookie in the NHL this year and it won't be long before we see this kid killing penalties for the Devils.
Btw...your man Price is phenomenal! That kid will be special. I wish the Devils could acquire him somehow. He would be the perfect guy as Marty Brodeur's heir apparent.
fluffernutter mf 06-02-2007, 11:31 AM Zajac should have another great season, and hopefully will improve as much as Parise did. I see around 30 goals, and around 65 points for him.
Classic Devil 06-02-2007, 12:08 PM 20 goals, 50 points next season. I think Zajac will improve slowly, but have quite a few PPG seasons in his career.
basketcase78 06-02-2007, 12:09 PM Zajac's upside is a Nieuwendyk type first line center--- not a true all-star, but one who can play at a high level for a very long time. His floor now is the Brind'Amour type center he already is for the second line. Next year, I'd expect an increase to 22-35-57 for his stats while also being given time on the PK.
bense27 06-02-2007, 12:39 PM Zajac was great for us this year. But I think he could work on his speed. I noticed a few times this year his speed hurt him a little bit. And like somebody said, he needs to be more physical and use his size. But other than that I expect him to be great again for us. I don't think his numbers will be too different from this year.

I would say a poor-man's Nieuwendyk. I doubt he'll ever have the goal scoring prowess of Nieuwendyk, but he will be reliable and effective at both ends of the ice. 70 pts max IMO. I don't see him being as strong as Brind'Amour, either.
wolves019 06-02-2007, 01:41 PM 20 goals, 50 points next season. I think Zajac will improve slowly, but have quite a few PPG seasons in his career.
agree
forceten 06-02-2007, 01:56 PM Zajac is a legitimate top forward. He's a stud - good size, good balance, good hands. Understands the game and sees the ice well for a rookie in the fastest league on the planet. If he works hard he should be a 60-80 point player. I really like this kid.
ALine9900 06-02-2007, 02:51 PM I think he had an awesome year, I can't wait to see him and Zach next season :yo: He really needs to practice his shot though
TaiMaiShu 06-02-2007, 06:07 PM 21 goals 36 assists is my prediction for next year.
ADD-devil950003 06-02-2007, 07:03 PM im gunna say that Zajac gets 26 goalsa dn 35 assists next season......i really am looking fowards to seeing Zajac and Parise grow as players, if they dont get split up they can become an AMAZING pair!

yeah i hope they continue to play together and get even better chemistry :o

I'm leaning closer to this scenario. Zach had only 14 goals freshman year, and now 31 (should be 32) this year. Zajac had 17, so who's to say that he won't nab 25-32 goals this year?
Overtime98 06-03-2007, 11:51 AM Zajac will be a great 2 way player...... He will only get better, as will Parise.
IMO, Zajac needs to work on his "on ice awareness" But that will come with expierence.
Elias to Parise 06-03-2007, 02:41 PM 21 goals and 36 assists
you read my mind...
TaiMaiShu 06-03-2007, 05:07 PM you read my mind...
