I did some more analysis of the data and I posted this on another board:
After doing some additional analysis of this data a pretty interesting pattern emerges...
I wondered if players adjusted how they played each goalie, for instance I'd try to shoot high on Lundqvist, Luongo and Kipper because they're butterfly goalies (and Lundqvist's thigh rises :madfire: ) and I'd shoot low on Brodeur because he's more standup.
I listed the %'s in the order of Brodeur, Lundqvist, Kipper, Luongo:
Blocker: 8.5 7.4 6.6 9.7
Glove: 11.5 9.4 13.1 9.4
Low Glove: 20.9 22.7 20.4 20.7
5-hole: 24.7 25.4 24.7 29.2
Low Stick: 34.4 35.2 35.2 31.1
High: 20.0 16.8 19.7 19.1
Low: 80.0 83.2 80.3 80.9
So over a whole season (minus a couple hundred shots that the guy missed for each) players seemed to shoot the same % low vs. high against Brodeur, Kipper, and Luongo...heck the broken down %s for Kipper and Brodeur for low shots are nearly identical.
Also my hunch about players shooting high on Lundqvist was dead wrong since he saw more low shots than any of them. It's also interesting how Luongo appears to give players a look at the five-hole only to shut them down. His height and wide stance probably discourage players from shooting low corner and his reflexes save him for the five-hole.
I've heard the adage that most goals in the NHL are scored in the lower half of the net but if you look at the numbers and the save percentages, maybe it's just because most shots are in the lower part of the net and if you have the chance you should get it up high.
Very interesting stuff.

I would agree with all the stats on Brodeur. But is it just me or does .889 for his glove hand seem a little odd? His glove side is 9/10 times his bread and butter. :teach:

Apparently it is, in fact, 8.89/10 times his bread and butter.:teach:

i was really feeling those stats, until i saw that :)
ok, ok guess he's alright nowadays in nhl, but he used to suck (literally suck all the pucks into the net) a lot in the finnish national team :)
