Chimp 05-10-2007, 08:39 AM The game has started and predatore is working or something, so I threw it up.

Apparently the Swedish Hockey Federation has already told the Swedish journalists that Sweden will play Canada in the semifinal, so it's up to Switzerland to surprise everyone. ;)
Swedish journalists also said Switzerland are in the QF only because they played in the right group, they thought Germany has played better.
Chimp 05-10-2007, 08:45 AM Looks like a scoreless 1st period, 5 minutes to go.
And right when I said that, Canada scores, 1-0, Lombardi with the backhand. Sloppy defensive play by the Swiss in their own zone, they can't afford that if they want to win.
caseygraves 05-10-2007, 08:45 AM Im wondering why Canada hasnt scored yet... two PPs so far...
caseygraves 05-10-2007, 08:48 AM opps just did... Lombardi
GuloGulo 05-10-2007, 08:49 AM Sweden just has to play Canada by default :P
Chimp 05-10-2007, 08:50 AM Commodore off to the box with a high check, he didn't keep his arms down, they were right in the face of the Swiss that he checked.
Switzerland had a good opportunity to score on their PP with a free puck trickling in front of the Canadian net, but couldn't get there first.
1-0 Canada, end of 1st period.
Kaktus 05-10-2007, 09:07 AM Sweden vs Canada should be a good game.
Chimp 05-10-2007, 09:11 AM Sweden vs Canada should be a good game.
Yeah, it should. Sweden vs. Canada has always been great entertainment.
Crazyhorse 05-10-2007, 09:18 AM Yeah, it should. Sweden vs. Canada has always been great entertainment.
Yeah.
You rarely ever see a sloppy game when Canada faces Sweden. I think that Sweden suffers a bit of the "finnish little brother"-like complex when it comes to playing Canada. It is never a big deal for Canada to play Sweden, but the swedish players allways start with the same talk:"We can't give up the physical play, we need to step up, deliver checks and clear the crease", almost like they are worried. Perhaps i am the only one to make this perception?
Anyway, it should be a great game, as mentioned earlier, Canada will be looking for revenge for last year. Davidsson better keeps his head up when Phaneuf is on the ice. :)
caseygraves 05-10-2007, 09:20 AM Only 7 shots on golal for Canada so far in the 2nd is anyone wathcing this game... it looks the Swiss might be playing good D...
Declassified 05-10-2007, 09:22 AM 2-1

They are, the Swiss are playing a great game.
Declassified 05-10-2007, 09:25 AM Canada got real sloppy after the Mayers goal.
Jussi 05-10-2007, 09:26 AM Since when did Jamal Mayers turn into a beast on international ice?
Damn, DiPietro makes it 2-1. Nash needs to score more points than him.
jonas234567 05-10-2007, 09:27 AM Who else than Paul Di Pietro could scrore for Switzerland vs. Canada? ;)
Declassified 05-10-2007, 09:32 AM Nash
3-1
Declassified 05-10-2007, 09:35 AM shots
CAN: 30
Swiss: 12
If, in some unkown way, the Canadian team would lose this game.
Would they dare to go back home or would they prefer to stay in europe for a year or two? :)
Jussi 05-10-2007, 09:39 AM Nash
3-1
Thank you  Now he needs that one more point.
caseygraves 05-10-2007, 09:40 AM Need Canada to score one more to win the Vbookie bet...
jonas234567 05-10-2007, 09:43 AM 3-1 was in PP2 and Murray took his timeout after the first 20 seconds of this PP2, it helped, after a good shot Hiller saved it exactly to the stick of Staal.
tsunami 05-10-2007, 09:46 AM How is Hiller playing ?
PatTraverse 05-10-2007, 09:47 AM How is Hiller playing ?
Very solid i'm impressed.Has good rebound control and couldn't do much on the goals that were scored on him.
bollos 05-10-2007, 10:08 AM TSN not showing the US/Finland game today? That should be a good one
AkageNoKeri 05-10-2007, 10:13 AM Damn Swedish TV for not showing this game. They showed the Russia - Czech game. asswipes.
Canada - Sweden's gonna be a nice one. Last years semi was a killer. Sweden will ofcourse win again, but by a larger margin this time.

I wanted to see that as welll... but i'll be in company meetings at that time anyway...
bollos 05-10-2007, 10:20 AM One of the benefits of being old and retired.....I get to watch all the games. Only prob is they are on kind of early here on the west coast (5am this morning)

Thanks mate, good to hear ! I am really wondering what will happen with him coming over to NA next season... I actually think he could become better than both Aebischer and Gerber, so we'll see in 2-3 years
TheRealRazor 05-10-2007, 10:23 AM I wanted to see that as welll... but i'll be in company meetings at that time anyway...
I'm pretty sure that TSN is showing it at 12:00 PM EST

He's already better than Aebischer.I don't know why but the guy has really regressed this year he has been horrible.
Hiller is the Anti-Aebischer right now excellent rebound control and positionally sound.
AkageNoKeri 05-10-2007, 10:24 AM bollos: Well next WC is really gonna suck for all of us over here, timewise.

not according to their schedule on the tsn site:

Not quite agree - He had stretches this year when he was really good, and then some very very bad ones - His problem is consistency - One day he plays fantastic and the next one like ****, which makes it difficult to be a starter in the NHL
Hiller seems much more stable and like you said has excellent rebound control and positionning

Hmm, yeah it's not on their schedule. My TV listings show a game on at that time on TSN, so we'll see, I guess.

Erh?
It was on Viasat Sport 1.
As usual, all the games are distributed over Viasat's different channels, Tv3, Tv6 and Sports 1 depending on how important they are regarded.
Crazyhorse 05-10-2007, 10:41 AM Canada it is! I will really be looking forward to the game on saturday!

If team Russia goes to the finals I'll be rooting for team Canada because I would love to see Russia/Canada final.

If you're old and retired, you should be up for the morning coffee by then. ;) And if not, you're walking in European hockey fan shoes. I can't even count the nights and early mornings watching NHL or the World Cup in football (soccer) in some distant country across the globe.
Leafer4Life 05-10-2007, 11:25 AM Missed the first period, but saw the last 2, YAY Canada!

Oh how I hate west coast games ...
East coast games normally start at 01:00 am, which can be handled, but Red Wings playing some surfing quacks at 04:30 in the morning ...
NHL should pass a rule that no game would be allowed to start later than 7:00 ET :)

Yeah, it'll kill you if you're a fan of a western conference team in Europe. It's almost impossible to watch them live. Luckily, I focus my fanship on an eastern conference team.
I've watched a couple of western conference playoff games. I can tell you I'm not happy when they go to multiple OT.
Macman 05-10-2007, 12:11 PM That was one horrible hockey game. It had about as much flow as maple syrup in January. The Swiss spent the whole game trapping, waiting for power plays and turnovers. Yuck.
Kaizer 05-10-2007, 12:19 PM Just got back from the game, the game was a bit boring actually but still few thoughts:
- Hiller was good and saved Switzerland a lot.
- Swiss players took realy unnecessary penalties and couldn't score when they had chances in 1st and 2nd period .
- Canada has a special guy who puts bottle with water on the goal's net ;)
- Phaneuf had nice light green stick :D
- After tons of mistakes by swiss players crowd in my sector chanted "Give a puck to Malkin, give a puck to Malkin" when Switzerland had a puck.

What was the attendance? It didn't look like much from TV.

Thats because Canada may have been involved in this game if the earlier games had a different outcome. Those are made in advance. The USA Finland game will not be on TV

only quarter was full at best - too early at simple day, I guess.

Thanks.
Chimp 05-10-2007, 03:12 PM only quarter was full at best - too early at simple day, I guess.
Perhaps it also mattered that this was the most uneven QF on paper. People are more reluctant to pay for a game where they think Canada will destroy the Swiss (and a QF on the other side of the playoff tree by Russian eyes as well).
House 05-10-2007, 06:05 PM They are, the Swiss are playing a great game.
They did show up for this game though we didn't take the game. Full credit to guys like Goran Bezina, and Mark Streit! Jeanin was the probably the slickest player out there and to think, we are hearing talk of him going to the NHL soon!

Unless he gets a better offer to stay in Switzerland.
And the times they are a'changing :)

Sandy Jeannin is aaaawwwwesome, it's impossible to not love him!
Same to Goran "Gore" Bezina and Mark Streit - awesome.
Besides these three, there are still a couple very promising guys on the roster, really good players and Swiss Internationals for years to come;
Thibaut Monnet
Duri Camichel
Julien Sprunger
Julien Vauclair
Steve Hirschi
Jonas Hiller
add
Daniel Manzato
Philippe Seydoux
Kevin Romy
and a healthy Flavien Conne
