So with this win Germany finished 9th?

Should they finish 9th again next year they would be directly qualified for the Olympics right?

I know Pätzold played a long season in NA but he was quite awful the against both Norway and Belarus imo.

No, they wouldn't.
With this result, Germany gets past Kazakhstan in the World rankings, but they are still only 11th, behind Latvia and Belarus, and only the first nine teams are automatically qualified for the Olympics.
The new ranking isn't out yet, but Germany definately needs to finish in front of Latvia and Belarus next year as well, likely by at least three or four places.

I only saw the last 15 minutes of this game, so I can't really comment about it, but Pätzold didn't look bad to me in the game against Norway. None of the three goals were his fault, the defense was simply awful in those few minutes.

i'd agree that paetzold looked awful in both games. he's really good behind the net and can even create counter-attacks, but he was awful with his glove, his positioning and his 5-hole.

but he was still an upgrade to the other ones. kotschnew even looked bad in his shut-out against the czechs and that made me laugh. :D

I wouldn't think Patzold would be all that tired since Greiss handled most of the starts in the second half of the season in Worcester and making 22 consecutive starts.

Played in the second half of the series. Greiss was the starter going in....didn't have a good first playoff.

ah ok. well against norway he was not that bad considering the fact that he played this game short after he arrived in russia. but today he looked really out of position most of the time. and he had a slow glovehand. not really what i expected from him.
