What is the story on german goalie Dimitri Patzold?

He's born in Kazakhstan right?

Is he still part of the San Jose Sharks system?

1-0 Paul Stastny, assisted by Eric Cole

Good goal by Stastny. Wide open infront, just a tip past the goaltender. It was a powerplay goal.

I like the us team. Guess they can be a positive surprise in this tournament.
But Germany is not much weeker until now.
Nice game to watch so far.

Did the same thing to the US just minutes before. No way that shot shouldn't of counted, for either team.

US taking way too many penalties in the period. Germany has totally controlled the later part of the period because of it.

I disagree. When the goal wasn't counted for US, Clark knocked the stick out of German defensman's hands. What did Germany do? He just blew the whistle to quick, while neither the ref, nor Graham had seen the puck.

Penalty for Team USA, so why should the goal count? You can discuss if the slash by Clark was worth a 2 min. penalty, but ref said it was so there's no way the goal can count.

Right, that was a clear decision. Not to give the goal for usa was 100% right. Noone can tell it was no foul from the us player.
You could had give the german goal. Was unlucky for us that he couldn't see the puck...

Well, I don't see a problem there, player deep in the crease before the puck. The interference call might be questionable though.

But, he really robbed Germany big time. Let's hope it was not a deciding goal. Germany has played really well thus far.

Not sure about IIHF rules but if u do that in NHL it's an automatic 2 minute penalty

IIHF rules might be very different from NHL then.

I didn't think there was a penalty at all. And plus I thought the puck had passed the goaltender before Clark had even came up onto the crease.

Edit: Finishing your checks also must not be allowed in IIHF games.

had nothing to do with the crease, he slashed the stick out d-man's hand before the puck crossed the line it was evident.

Nice one about the checks :)...Historically in Europe we try to play hockey, not rugby on skates, luv it or hate it.

Did I miss something here ? The call for Clark was for interference, not slashing as it should have been, in my humble opinion. You can argue that he was actually interfering the goalie, which I would agree, but "has nothing to do with it" ?

They are. In theory, and in practice it seems.

Wanna change glasses ? :) But you are right in a way.

I hole heartedly agree. Let's hope it gets better when quarters start.

3:0, another bad call!

Seems as the refs donīt know whatīs a delayed call. If he blows the whistle he canīt give the goal.
Clearly the refīs mistake and germany suffers under it...:shakehead

Um, yes, he can. That's the whole point of a delayed penalty - to allow the other team a chance to score as long as they have possession.

But yeah, these refs are calling everything. I'm not one to say that anything should go, but this is ridiculous.

No he canīt if he blows whistle BEFORE the USA scores. The game has officially stopped then. If I am a goalie and here the whistle I donīt pay much attention to the puck anymore and thatīs exactly what happened...

Ya, they did everything right and deserved this victory.
I was really surprised by Team Germany again. Except some few stints they played head to head with the US boys, just couldnīt find the back of the net. Seems the time of playing the hole game like PK is finally over in Germany.

Absolutely. Good game by Germany. They had their changes; but did just not have the finishing touch. Let's hope they will play like the two first periods in this game later on the tournament. They put up a real good fight.

Since their roster is missing so much key players; I really have to hand it to them. Thumps up for Krupp for all the young players. They've done well so far.

So maybe we cut some slack for the guys. Some pretty neat ones in there, don't you think ?

im really liking this american team, really young, hardworking group of guys. Im siked for the next olympics, remember we still have parise, gionta, gomez in NJ who are all great young/youthful speedy players with tons of skill.

I don't believe Jack or Erik Johnson got any playing time in the game today. I guess they are the 7th and 8th D-men on the team. How many players do they let the teams dress for these games?
