I have a feeling Finland will win. Just a hunch.

Finland 4-2.

But the question is... Who the heck can keep down the Alex-gang? >_<

Frolov, Morozov and Ovechkin could just as well throw around our puny defense...

I expect a great team defense from Finland. This is a style of play they should be used too. No don`t need to rely on a defense too much. Maybe if they play a system like Germany played, not too many pucks will be carried through the neutral zone.

Hopefully Lehtinen is in decent form.

Hentunen should get to play here IMO.

He is one of the best "midfielders" in international hockey.

Uh oh, Norrena is in the net instead of Lehtonen.

Russia will win 5-2.

Eh. Norre is more experienced in international play and seems to have lots more of confidence.

And his agressive play suits the game much better IMO.

To much pressure on Russia.

I think that Finland will win, but it really is a coin toss, IMO.

It will be interesting to see if Russia can play a team game, individual efforts won't break this balanced finnish team.

This will be very interesting game. Let's watch how Finland will manage with ZZM and Kovalchkun-Malkin-Frolov lines. Any of other 2 lines can score too.

Well, they will meet a very organized team in Finland, and i think that the expectations from the crowd won't be answered, as you need to have a team play to defeat Finland. Just my opinion.

Equal matchup altogether, Finland has better goaltending. Will be a close game.

I hope that Russia wins but i'm afraid that Finland is going to win, I don't trust on Russian defence or goalies, and their often get frustrated against teams like Finland, because their game is so well organized, they can't afford pointless penalties and they must play as a team, and they need to keep their cool. With loads of luck they may succeed, however i predict that Finland will win 5-1.

In Torino 1/2 final Malkin was suspended and Frolov injured. Those are two guys I expect a big game today. Morozov-Radulov also were not there and I expect big game from them. And finally this year we have a real coach...coaching staff...Russia 4-0

In Torino Dasyuk had a broken finger, Malkin was suspended for that incident with LeCavalier, Frolov was out with a shoulder injury. That healthy Russian team beat Swedes 5:0 (?) (with out Forsberg not 100% sure about the score), beat Canada 2:0, do not remember USA vs Russia game but Russians won. Not to mention Russians were the youngest team in Olympics.

We lost big to Swedes.

I think in final game against Czechs, Kovalchuk was suspended for that hit to the head against Pavel Kubina and young kids were out of gas.

It would be nice to have Zubov and Khabibulin but who cares.. Every team is missing good players so not crying about that.

Fins would be a good test. Fast, good on d, play as a team.

Nabokov did a very good job especially againts Canada ! Malkin suspended Frolov injured Korolyuk injured and Morozov wasn't there. But let's not forget that Russians start celebrating so much after canada win that maybe they lost concentration for next match! And Finland was playing really good they also had beaten canada 2-0 earlier. Sure with our team complete we should have won this 1/2 but Finland was playing great and they exploited our weaknesses nicely. Eliminating Canada 2-0 beating usa and then Sweden 5-0 is still very good... We still have the most Gold Medal in Olympics. It will be a big challenge in 2010 in what could be one of the biggest hockey tournament ever.

What about Finland in Olympics? No Pitkänen, Kipper, Lehtonen, Sami Kapanen, T.Ruutu. I forgot someone, im sure.

Pitkanen is a turnover machine. Lehtonen was bad this year. Kapanen you have many guys as good or better than him at this stage. Only loss was Kipper but Nitty played over is head all tournament so you had your best team. Please #2 it's your best finish ever.

I do not care.. Add all these guys to your team. I just wanted Zubov, you add a guy like that to your team D and forwards can do whatever they want. He is top 4 in the world. Too bad he is not here again.

Faktisti*
05-01-2007, 10:48 AM
pitkänen is a world class offensive defender, even thought he had bad season. he would have been very important.

kapanen isnt as good anymore but everyone knows that he has done 70 points in one season in nhl.

tuomo ruutu would have been very tough player in finnish team.

before the final sami salo got injured so he was the one reason finland didnt win olympics

sweds mentality was stronger than finns, and they had good luck. finland should have won that tournament

That's the main problem with team Russia... Politics... Zubov didn't played since 96... Mogilny didn't played since 96... Kovalev didn't played in 98... At least know our main guys are playing. It's easier since they were not caught in the collapse of the Soviet system and all it's consequences... That's why now if Bykov develops into a real coach the future is bright...

The others are still playing Volchenkov Kalinin Tyutin Datsyuk Afinogenov Nabokov Bryzgalov so it's our best team possible for once !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The goal is to win and prepare 2010 and even more important build a team spirit for that goal and create chemistry with a good coaching staff. The 2007 team with the players available is perfect except for Semin who acted unprofessionaly since he did it too in jr championship. Fedorov Yashin Kozlov Khabi and cie have been good in the past but their time is done same thing for Kovalev who had a terrible year.

Gonchar Markov Tyutin Kalinin Volchenko (D.Markov?) (Zubov?) and some young guys...

Nabokov Bryzgalov...

Yes, unfortunetly, this tournament will be talored for Canada's victory from the beginning, and in spite of IIHF standards it will be played on NHL rinks (Canada got an exception). Also if they had to change the rinks it would be very costly for them, that's why they were allowed, at least it's the answer we got. Who knows what happened when the curtain was down:)

You seem to be very quick to jump to conclusions. Yeah Sammy is on the decline, but he had too many injuries, if takes this offseason seriusly he may rebound. You missed Afinogenov too, he's IMHO, better than all forementioned Wingers

Pushkin*
05-01-2007, 11:34 AM
As for last year the real problem was Zubov-Zhtinik-Kalinin in for Zhukov-Vishnevski... and Morozov Semin not there. As for Fedorov he was 36 and not sure if he could have done anything. The real bad one was P.Bure he could still rule now

Afinogenov I mentionned earlier since he shoots left. He's awesome and could be in his prime come 2010. So small rinks well that's already bad enough well in exchange can we have our refs for our games like they did in those "canada cup" ?

I went to "World Cup" in 96 and it was enough for me with this NHL-Nhlpa Cup... It has 0 crediblity 0 legitimity. At least when it was name Canada Cup it was less hypocrit. What kind of sports has a tournament every 3 years then 4 years then 5 years then 8 years then 4 years ??????????? Always in the same place... It was fun when Russia beat usa for 2nd place and the reward was not a 1/4 in Moscow but somewhere in the us... Then without sweating much we beat them on neutral ground again in 06...

I can't see how this game could be close at all.

If Freddy has a good day then maybe the final score will be within tolerable limits.
Otherwise this could get real ugly.

The Russians are so talented and hungry that you could get killed out there.

And Kosechkin is as good a goalie as he is tall.

Zine

Don't forget about Zherdev. If he can get his **** together he'll be super valuable.

Impressive might be an overstatement.

He can have a successful NHL career, but with his injuries... I doubt it'll be all that long.

He is not the kind of player who uses a combination of his strength and technique to get offense going. He is a technical forward who can also hit.

We need a bash brothers line with the Ruutus to show that they can't throw Finland around like that >_<

And the russians positionally towards the end of first was pretty alright... It's gonna be harder to find their mistakes and use them, so Finland has to forecheck higher to force the mistakes and it with the somewhat shaky goalie, taking advantage of the mistakes might not pose too much trouble.

But the russian forwards backcheck all the time and seem more into the defensive play than the d-men...
