WC: May 1 GDT - Finland vs. RussiaPredatore 05-01-2007, 04:45 AM http://live82.ihwc.net/english/scores/ Wisent 05-01-2007, 04:54 AM I have a feeling Finland will win. Just a hunch. mattihp 05-01-2007, 05:01 AM Finland 4-2. But the question is... Who the heck can keep down the Alex-gang? >_< Frolov, Morozov and Ovechkin could just as well throw around our puny defense... Wisent 05-01-2007, 05:13 AM Finland 4-2. But the question is... Who the heck can keep down the Alex-gang? >_< Frolov, Morozov and Ovechkin could just as well throw around our puny defense... I expect a great team defense from Finland. This is a style of play they should be used too. No don`t need to rely on a defense too much. Maybe if they play a system like Germany played, not too many pucks will be carried through the neutral zone. mattihp 05-01-2007, 05:16 AM I expect a great team defense from Finland. This is a style of play they should be used too. No don`t need to rely on a defense too much. Maybe if they play a system like Germany played, not too many pucks will be carried through the neutral zone. Hopefully Lehtinen is in decent form. Hentunen should get to play here IMO. He is one of the best "midfielders" in international hockey. Mr. Penguin 05-01-2007, 05:27 AM Uh oh, Norrena is in the net instead of Lehtonen. Russia will win 5-2. mattihp 05-01-2007, 05:28 AM Uh oh, Norrena is in the net instead of Lehtonen. Russia will win 5-2. Eh. Norre is more experienced in international play and seems to have lots more of confidence. And his agressive play suits the game much better IMO. cibtom 05-01-2007, 05:32 AM I think Russia will win 5:3 Crazyhorse 05-01-2007, 05:47 AM To much pressure on Russia. I think that Finland will win, but it really is a coin toss, IMO. It will be interesting to see if Russia can play a team game, individual efforts won't break this balanced finnish team. Simagin 05-01-2007, 06:01 AM 5-2 Russia Muscle Bob 05-01-2007, 06:50 AM This will be very interesting game. Let's watch how Finland will manage with ZZM and Kovalchkun-Malkin-Frolov lines. Any of other 2 lines can score too. Kaktus 05-01-2007, 08:01 AM To much pressure on Russia. I think that Finland will win, but it really is a coin toss, IMO. It will be interesting to see if Russia can play a team game, individual efforts won't break this balanced finnish team. What pressure? They will be ready to go. Faktisti* 05-01-2007, 08:01 AM i think that finland will win 3-0 norrena will shootout russian snipers finlands weapon is dynamic powerplay peltonen-nummelin-kontiola-koivu-ruutu and now also lehtinen Paxton Fettel 05-01-2007, 08:06 AM on paper Russia wins 9-1 on the ice, I think Russia should lose at least a game before the playoff round Kaktus 05-01-2007, 08:11 AM on paper Russia wins 9-1 on the ice, I think Russia should lose at least a game before the playoff round I agree with this 100%... If they lose they will play better. Makes no sense but I am hoping for it. finlands weapon is dynamic powerplay peltonen-nummelin-kontiola-koivu-ruutu and now also lehtinen Dynamic PP? Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Malkin, Morozov, Radulov, Frolov, Gonchar, A.Markov talk about Dynamic. Faktisti* 05-01-2007, 08:16 AM on paper Russia wins 9-1 on the ice, I think Russia should lose at least a game before the playoff round are u sure? if u are a good sniper in nhl, that doesnt mean that u would be much much better in every situation on the ice Crazyhorse 05-01-2007, 08:30 AM What pressure? They will be ready to go. Well, they will meet a very organized team in Finland, and i think that the expectations from the crowd won't be answered, as you need to have a team play to defeat Finland. Just my opinion. Kaktus 05-01-2007, 08:33 AM Well, they will meet a very organized team in Finland, and i think that the expectations from the crowd won't be answered, as you need to have a team play to defeat Finland. Just my opinion. Fins will meet disorganized Russians who can not shot the puck? Is that it? Crazyhorse 05-01-2007, 08:36 AM Fins will meet disorganized Russians who can not shot the puck? Is that it? Yep, you've got it right. :sarcasm: edd1e 05-01-2007, 08:37 AM on paper Russia wins 9-1 on the ice, I think Russia should lose at least a game before the playoff round Nice logic. 9-1? So on paper they should have won Denmark 30-0, right? FiNsKa 05-01-2007, 08:40 AM on paper Russia wins 9-1 on the ice, I think Russia should lose at least a game before the playoff round On paper? ok... Why? Because they have a few good snipers? Equal matchup altogether, Finland has better goaltending. Will be a close game. sick 05-01-2007, 08:52 AM I hope that Russia wins but i'm afraid that Finland is going to win, I don't trust on Russian defence or goalies, and their often get frustrated against teams like Finland, because their game is so well organized, they can't afford pointless penalties and they must play as a team, and they need to keep their cool. With loads of luck they may succeed, however i predict that Finland will win 5-1. Hennessy 05-01-2007, 09:36 AM on paper Russia wins 9-1 Are you high? cska78 05-01-2007, 09:38 AM I think it's gonna be a very tight defenisve game, that will test Russian offense and deffense. After the Olympics fiasco I'm inklined to give the preliminaty advantage to the Finns, but the game will tell! cska78 05-01-2007, 09:39 AM Are you high? Wishfull thinking, I like that!:yo: Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 10:01 AM Wishfull thinking, I like that!:yo: In Torino 1/2 final Malkin was suspended and Frolov injured. Those are two guys I expect a big game today. Morozov-Radulov also were not there and I expect big game from them. And finally this year we have a real coach...coaching staff...Russia 4-0 Kaktus 05-01-2007, 10:15 AM I think it's gonna be a very tight defenisve game, that will test Russian offense and deffense. After the Olympics fiasco I'm inklined to give the preliminaty advantage to the Finns, but the game will tell! In Torino Dasyuk had a broken finger, Malkin was suspended for that incident with LeCavalier, Frolov was out with a shoulder injury. That healthy Russian team beat Swedes 5:0 (?) (with out Forsberg not 100% sure about the score), beat Canada 2:0, do not remember USA vs Russia game but Russians won. Not to mention Russians were the youngest team in Olympics. We lost big to Swedes. I think in final game against Czechs, Kovalchuk was suspended for that hit to the head against Pavel Kubina and young kids were out of gas. It would be nice to have Zubov and Khabibulin but who cares.. Every team is missing good players so not crying about that. Fins would be a good test. Fast, good on d, play as a team. FiNsKa 05-01-2007, 10:16 AM I hope that Russia wins but i'm afraid that Finland is going to win, I don't trust on Russian defence or goalies, and their often get frustrated against teams like Finland, because their game is so well organized, they can't afford pointless penalties and they must play as a team, and they need to keep their cool. With loads of luck they may succeed, however i predict that Finland will win 5-1. Why would you want Russia to win? Aren't you a Finn? :dunno: Faktisti* 05-01-2007, 10:20 AM I hope that Russia wins but i'm afraid that Finland is going to win, I don't trust on Russian defence or goalies, and their often get frustrated against teams like Finland, because their game is so well organized, they can't afford pointless penalties and they must play as a team, and they need to keep their cool. With loads of luck they may succeed, however i predict that Finland will win 5-1. how can u wish that russia will win? Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 10:22 AM Nabokov did a very good job especially againts Canada ! Malkin suspended Frolov injured Korolyuk injured and Morozov wasn't there. But let's not forget that Russians start celebrating so much after canada win that maybe they lost concentration for next match! And Finland was playing really good they also had beaten canada 2-0 earlier. Sure with our team complete we should have won this 1/2 but Finland was playing great and they exploited our weaknesses nicely. Eliminating Canada 2-0 beating usa and then Sweden 5-0 is still very good... We still have the most Gold Medal in Olympics. It will be a big challenge in 2010 in what could be one of the biggest hockey tournament ever. edd1e 05-01-2007, 10:27 AM In Torino Dasyuk had a broken finger, Malkin was suspended for that incident with LeCavalier, Frolov was out with a shoulder injury. That healthy Russian team beat Swedes 5:0 (?) (with out Forsberg not 100% sure about the score), beat Canada 2:0, do not remember USA vs Russia game but Russians won. Not to mention Russians were the youngest team in Olympics. What about Finland in Olympics? No Pitkänen, Kipper, Lehtonen, Sami Kapanen, T.Ruutu. I forgot someone, im sure. Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 10:35 AM Pitkanen is a turnover machine. Lehtonen was bad this year. Kapanen you have many guys as good or better than him at this stage. Only loss was Kipper but Nitty played over is head all tournament so you had your best team. Please #2 it's your best finish ever. Kaktus 05-01-2007, 10:43 AM What about Finland in Olympics? No Pitkänen, Kipper, Lehtonen, Sami Kapanen, T.Ruutu. I forgot someone, im sure. Fins players were injured BEFORE the tournament not during. I am not taking anything away from Fins team in Turin. You won your medal fair and square. Touch game against Swedes. I do not care.. Add all these guys to your team. I just wanted Zubov, you add a guy like that to your team D and forwards can do whatever they want. He is top 4 in the world. Too bad he is not here again. Faktisti* 05-01-2007, 10:48 AM pitkänen is a world class offensive defender, even thought he had bad season. he would have been very important. kapanen isnt as good anymore but everyone knows that he has done 70 points in one season in nhl. tuomo ruutu would have been very tough player in finnish team. before the final sami salo got injured so he was the one reason finland didnt win olympics sweds mentality was stronger than finns, and they had good luck. finland should have won that tournament Kaktus 05-01-2007, 10:50 AM pitkänen is a world class offensive defender, even thought he had bad season. he would have been very important. Pitkanen is a good young and very talanted. World class? I do not know about that one. He has a lot of work ahead of him, I would not call him world class just yet and I am a Flyers fan. Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 10:50 AM The reason Finland lost was Saku Koivu's broken stick !!! And the superior players Lundqvist Sundin Forsberg Lidstrom... Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 10:52 AM That's the main problem with team Russia... Politics... Zubov didn't played since 96... Mogilny didn't played since 96... Kovalev didn't played in 98... At least know our main guys are playing. It's easier since they were not caught in the collapse of the Soviet system and all it's consequences... That's why now if Bykov develops into a real coach the future is bright... edd1e 05-01-2007, 11:03 AM Pitkanen is a good young and very talanted. World class? I do not know about that one. He has a lot of work ahead of him, I would not call him world class just yet and I am a Flyers fan. He was at that moment world class, when a d-men is almost PPG pace in NHL he's world class. Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:06 AM World Class is what we will see from Gonchar and Markov in not too long Kaktus 05-01-2007, 11:10 AM He was at that moment world class, when a d-men is almost PPG pace in NHL he's world class. I'll take one Zubov over 2 Pitkanens. No disrespect. You can keep "that one moment of world class" or maybe wait for another moment. ;) As a Flyers fan I am hoping for a lot of "those" moments. Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:14 AM Zubov is 37 this summer... You can forget about him. Except if he does like Chelios...Then maybe Zubov could play in Vancouver while being 39... cska78 05-01-2007, 11:20 AM You are forgetting others who simply refused to play for Russia: Fedorov, Habibulin, Slava Kozlov, Zubov plus the injured we could put whole other team there. Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:21 AM Fedorov was there in 98 and 2002 Khabibulin in 2002 as well Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:23 AM If you talk about this year forget it Fedorov is 37 ans injured Zubov is nearly 37 ans injured Kozlov is 34...Khabibulin old as well THIS YEAR TEAM IS ABOUT 2010 no guys on your list have aspiration for 2010.The only guy missing from this team who should be there in 2010 is Semin !!! The others are still playing Volchenkov Kalinin Tyutin Datsyuk Afinogenov Nabokov Bryzgalov so it's our best team possible for once !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cska78 05-01-2007, 11:25 AM Fedorov was there in 98 and 2002 Khabibulin in 2002 as well I was talking about Tourine Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:25 AM The goal is to win and prepare 2010 and even more important build a team spirit for that goal and create chemistry with a good coaching staff. The 2007 team with the players available is perfect except for Semin who acted unprofessionaly since he did it too in jr championship. Fedorov Yashin Kozlov Khabi and cie have been good in the past but their time is done same thing for Kovalev who had a terrible year. cska78 05-01-2007, 11:25 AM If you talk about this year forget it Fedorov is 37 ans injured Zubov is nearly 37 ans injured Kozlov is 34...Khabibulin old as well THIS YEAR TEAM IS ABOUT 2010 no guys on your list have aspiration for 2010.The only guy missing from this team who should be there in 2010 is Semin !!! The others are still playing Volchenkov Kalinin Tyutin Datsyuk Afinogenov Nabokov Bryzgalov so it's our best team possible for once !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would consider Sammy, may be he can still rebound, even though it looks like he's done :( Would luv to see him back in Boston Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:27 AM 2010= Malkin Ovechkin Morozov Cherepanov Semin Frolov Kovalchuk Radulov Afinogenov Datsyuk that's already 10... Gonchar Markov Tyutin Kalinin Volchenko (D.Markov?) (Zubov?) and some young guys... Nabokov Bryzgalov... So i don't see any problem for this year team it's perfect. cska78 05-01-2007, 11:27 AM Danny Markov is a good punishing D-men would come very handy on NHL sized rinks Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:28 AM Samsonov is FINISHED since 2-3 years he isn't even consider anymore. Since he had is wrist injury he can't even shoot the puck... Offense is not a probleme we have many many many way younger and better right shooting wingers !!!!!!!!! cska78 05-01-2007, 11:29 AM Samsonov is FINISHED since 2-3 years he isn't even consider anymore. Since he had is wrist injury he can't even shoot the puck... Offense is not a probleme we have many many many way younger and better right shooting wingers !!!!!!!!! Not when Sammy's at his best! I still think then if he comes back to Boston he can revamp his career Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:29 AM what you mean nhl sized rinks ??? don't tell me 2010 will be on those stupid little ices ??????? It's IIHF it's contrary to the rules impossible Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:30 AM So you tell me that by 2010 Sammy could be in front Frolov Ovechkin Kovalchuk Semin ????????? not a chance he is done done done . If we were talking Belarus team ok but not Russia... Faktisti* 05-01-2007, 11:30 AM oh i hope that kasparaitis would represent team russia. i loved hes angry face, when he tackled saku koivu in the semi-finals in torini. finland beat russia 4-0 Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:32 AM I Also forget guys that are still young Kulemin Zinoviev Ilya Zubov and coe. Grebeshkov had a lot of potential maybe he can turn it around. Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:32 AM Russia beats Finland 7-4... I loved it when he took out Gagné in 1/4 Finland has 2 Gold in history... and none at Olympics cska78 05-01-2007, 11:34 AM So you tell me that by 2010 Sammy could be in front Frolov Ovechkin Kovalchuk Semin ????????? not a chance he is done done done . If we were talking Belarus team ok but not Russia... Yes, unfortunetly, this tournament will be talored for Canada's victory from the beginning, and in spite of IIHF standards it will be played on NHL rinks (Canada got an exception). Also if they had to change the rinks it would be very costly for them, that's why they were allowed, at least it's the answer we got. Who knows what happened when the curtain was down:) You seem to be very quick to jump to conclusions. Yeah Sammy is on the decline, but he had too many injuries, if takes this offseason seriusly he may rebound. You missed Afinogenov too, he's IMHO, better than all forementioned Wingers Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:34 AM As for last year the real problem was Zubov-Zhtinik-Kalinin in for Zhukov-Vishnevski... and Morozov Semin not there. As for Fedorov he was 36 and not sure if he could have done anything. The real bad one was P.Bure he could still rule now cska78 05-01-2007, 11:35 AM I Also forget guys that are still young Kulemin Zinoviev Ilya Zubov and coe. Grebeshkov had a lot of potential maybe he can turn it around. Zina, is not so youg...27? cska78 05-01-2007, 11:35 AM Yeah I wish the Russian Rocket still had some fuel in... Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:35 AM Afinogenov I mentionned earlier since he shoots left. He's awesome and could be in his prime come 2010. So small rinks well that's already bad enough well in exchange can we have our refs for our games like they did in those "canada cup" ? cska78 05-01-2007, 11:36 AM Grebeshkov is garbage Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:36 AM just 27 I think so if he stays in shape 29-30 it's still very good but will see he will be on the bubble. Not the priority... cska78 05-01-2007, 11:36 AM did u go to last World Cup? I went to Toronto for Russia - Canada and Russia-Slovakija, it was so much fun Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:37 AM What happened to Grebeshkov?? He was awesome in Halifax and a high draft pick what happened to him? Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:38 AM Anyhow we could play with 6D... since 7-8 might be a big step behind the others... I will laugh when Canada will get crushed on home ice in the 1/4 this will be worst than 8-1 Canada Cup 81 in their Forum Habsfan18 05-01-2007, 11:39 AM is Tuomo Ruutu playing? How has he been in the tournament? Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:46 AM I went to "World Cup" in 96 and it was enough for me with this NHL-Nhlpa Cup... It has 0 crediblity 0 legitimity. At least when it was name Canada Cup it was less hypocrit. What kind of sports has a tournament every 3 years then 4 years then 5 years then 8 years then 4 years ??????????? Always in the same place... It was fun when Russia beat usa for 2nd place and the reward was not a 1/4 in Moscow but somewhere in the us... Then without sweating much we beat them on neutral ground again in 06... Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:47 AM Also funny that Germany was in that stupid thing when Belarus had made the olympic 1/2 final just 2 years earlier !!! Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:48 AM The game will start I predict 4-0 Russia with a breakout game from Kovalchuk and good goaltending. Kovalchuk Kovalchuk Gonchar Kulemin Matti_A 05-01-2007, 11:52 AM I can't see how this game could be close at all. If Freddy has a good day then maybe the final score will be within tolerable limits. Otherwise this could get real ugly. The Russians are so talented and hungry that you could get killed out there. And Kosechkin is as good a goalie as he is tall. Zine 05-01-2007, 11:52 AM Don't forget about Zherdev. If he can get his **** together he'll be super valuable. Beyond Datsyuk/Malkin, pretty thin at center for 2010..........Zinoviev, Svitov, Taratukhin, Kaigorodov, Kuryanov, Nepryaev? Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:56 AM Doesn't matter that... If were thin at center hell place Ovechkin at center who cares ...Morozov could play center ... Pushkin* 05-01-2007, 11:57 AM Good game everyone ... Impressive might be an overstatement. He can have a successful NHL career, but with his injuries... I doubt it'll be all that long. He is not the kind of player who uses a combination of his strength and technique to get offense going. He is a technical forward who can also hit. Vladiator 05-01-2007, 12:49 PM What a pass it was! It's gonna be harder to find their mistakes and use them, so Finland has to forecheck higher to force the mistakes and it with the somewhat shaky goalie, taking advantage of the mistakes might not pose too much trouble. But the russian forwards backcheck all the time and seem more into the defensive play than the d-men...
