WWWWWH? Trivia Question: Name all of the captains (including interim) in Ducks history.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SWEET! After a strong performance in the first game, the Ducks look to keep up the momentum and take a 2-0 series lead. Meanwhile, the Canucks will seek a better result than the last game and a split to take the series back home tied up at one. I am EXCITED! :yo: Who will come out on top in this pivotal contest? Shutdown Line boosts Ducks (Written by Elliot Teaford)
Samuel Pahlsson is known as the other guy in the Ray Bourque trade.
Rob Niedermayer is known as Scott's younger brother.
Travis Moen is known as ... Well, he's not known for much yet.
Meet the members of the Ducks' Shutdown Line, the players responsible for making life miserable for the opposition's top scoring lines.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Players to Watch
-Anaheim Ducks
http://anaheimducks.com/images/200609/1423.f.jpg
#15-Ryan Getzlaf: This young star on the Ducks is having a great post-season with 7 points (3 Goals, 4 Assists) to tie him for the team lead with Defensemen Chris Pronger. As the Canucks look to make adjustments to the Duck's 1st line, look for this young center along with linemates Dustin Penner and Corey Perry to provide some more scoring. Will he and his linemates be able to do it?
-Vancouver Canucks
http://www.nbcsports.com/2007/0108/803026_300X223.jpg
#1-Roberto Luongo: Many consider this Montreal native to be one of, if not the best of the goaltenders in the NHL. Luongo has been having a stellar post-season, but he had a relatively poor showing in the last game. Even so, he made several brilliant saves in the outing. Now, while not getting much support from the offense or defense, it is clear that he needs to step it up to a higher level in this game. Will he able to return to his elite form in this game?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that is it for me. TOODLE LOO! Hope you all have a good one, a good day, and a good sleep! I am PUMPED! :yo:
Pronger4Pope 04-27-2007, 01:24 AM Nieds, Rooch, Paulina, Selanne, Loney..... some french guy. Ladoceur?
Anybody else wanna see Bryz? Giggy did not look good in game 1.
banana phone 04-27-2007, 01:25 AM Sami Salo is back. He is after Mitchell our best defensive defenseman and our biggest offensive threat. Hopefully it helps even up the game a bit. We really need Cooker back, though.

Oh man...you are missing just one guy. Give ya a hint. He was a captain for only a few days and it was in the last 3 seasons. :)
And Hanky, that is good to hear. Hate to play a team when they are not at full capacity. Here is to a speedy recovery to everyone else! :)

I have no recollection of this. Was it Feds?
Ducksforcup 04-27-2007, 01:32 AM I have no recollection of this. Was it Feds?
Remember, he was an interim captain. Once the normal captain came back, he went back to being assistant captain.
This is a real tough one, I know. I have to have tough ones sometimes. :D

Great GDT DFC, that article about the shut down line was a good read. I wish players like Pahlsson would get more recognition around the league.
snarktacular 04-27-2007, 03:10 AM Y'know every time I see the new Honda sign on the arena, I think how ugly the colors look. And I'm not even the kind of person who ever matches, but that bright red Honda just doesn't look right with the southwest-pastel colored arena.
And wasn't Randy Ladoceur our original Mr stache? He may have been ahead of his time...
Coconuts 04-27-2007, 03:35 AM Bobby Dollas was captain at one point (when Kariya was injured?).:teach:

Thanks for the thanks man! :)
Ducks_è_Halos 04-27-2007, 03:47 AM I'll be at this one with an Avs fan. Section 325 Row D.
Go:ducks!!!

I'll assume that you have done the proper measures to bring that fan to our side? :D
Ducks_è_Halos 04-27-2007, 04:00 AM I'll assume that you have done the proper measures to bring that fan to our side? :D
He's played hockey all his life and is a diehard Avs fan but this is his first NHL game he's ever been to so I think I can convert him from the Dark Side. :naughty:
He said that he never thought his first NHL game would be a Ducks playoff game.
I'm going to make him get a Parros 'stache too. :D
Nikko 04-27-2007, 05:09 AM Y'know every time I see the new Honda sign on the arena, I think how ugly the colors look. And I'm not even the kind of person who ever matches, but that bright red Honda just doesn't look right with the southwest-pastel colored arena.
I was thinking that yesterday when I walked up for game 1. They should have at least colored the writing whatever the hell color you call the pond or something like black would have even matched a little better. Either way it looks dumb with writing in the corners... takes some of the gloss off of the nice design IMO.
Randall Graves* 04-27-2007, 06:08 AM Wasn't Terry Yake captain once?
Anyways, don't see us scoring 5 goals again I imagine Luongo will not allow it. But I like the way Giguere has played in his 2 starts, he's not allowing any rebounds right now and is able to make those 1 or 2 big saves we need.
I think we can play better than we did in game 1, atleast from a physical stand point.
I also want Giguere to continue his strong play, but also want him to not let those weak goals in...
I expect a little less turn overs from the Canucks with the very possible return of Salo, and also a little more offense.
Lets go Ducks!
Heavy Hussar 04-27-2007, 11:36 AM yeah jiggy was a little shaky for a bit there. ill be up in the 400's with my little guy. C'mon Ducks!!!
ItsAllPartOfThePlan 04-27-2007, 12:08 PM Sami Salo is back. He is after Mitchell our best defensive defenseman and our biggest offensive threat. Hopefully it helps even up the game a bit. We really need Cooker back, though.
Nope...he is not back.
Bieksa, whose rib/abdominal/back injury hasn't been officially announced, was sticking to the flu bug. Bieksa did not practise, and Salo appeared to be moving gingerly. His "flu" had him wincing in pain as he bent to put on socks.
Bottom line: neither defenceman is expected to play tonight, keeping Alex Edler and Rory Fitzpatrick in the lineup.
From Today's Vancouver Sun
cliffy 04-27-2007, 01:27 PM Well, the Canucks are going to be in for another tough game tonight, especially if Salo and Bieksa are out again. Sopel just doesn't have the skills or smarts to play big minutes against top players. Selanne made him look foolish. Maybe he's been playing with one of those undisclosed upper body injuries (in his case it would be a brain injury!).
Anyway, The Canucks have shown all year long that they can bounce back with a good performance after a poor outing, so I'm expecting a good game tonight. If they get back to their game of hard forechecks and sound defensive work then they'll be back in it. They'll have to be patient tonight and not trade chances with Anaheim. I also don't want to see Bulis try to deke through the Anaheim blue line... it's not gonna happen! I'm hoping AV puts Naslund back with the Sedins, Pyatt with Linden, and replaces Smith with Hansen (and then pairs him back up with Bulis). I'm not too sure what the theory was with putting Smith in there... I suppose for his toughness. But common, this is the playoffs, not the regular season... fighting is rare and we can avoid getting into a physical battle.
As for a prediction - I'll say 3-2 Canucks in overtime! Go Canucks Go!
soya_sauce_chicken 04-27-2007, 02:55 PM LA Times article said in the last 4 starts against the Ducks Luongo has a 4.08 GAA
Hockey Duckie 04-27-2007, 07:10 PM Agreed on JS looking a bit shaky out there. With the team's defense, it's difficult to gauge the quality of netminder you have. I mean Michael Wall even looked good for a bit. LoL Anyhow, I didn't see a need to replace Bryz, especially with his performance from the end of the season to the first round. Sad, actually... which spells the writing on the wall for Bryz next season with the preference to JS when Bryz was doing quite well.
Randall Graves* 04-27-2007, 07:18 PM I also want Giguere to continue his strong play, but also want him to not let those weak goals in...
I expect a little less turn overs from the Canucks with the very possible return of Salo, and also a little more offense.
Lets go Ducks!
How was the one goal he gave up weak? Cowan was all alone on him Giguere can hardly be blamed for Niedermayers F up.
ANyways I heard Bieksa has a broken foot.
Phaneufed 04-27-2007, 08:19 PM Go Ducks! :yo:
Im watching Game 1 now
Did anyone else notice once we had the lead, that Huskins and Dipenta got a lot more ice time?
I think its good that Carlyle is trying to get them as much experience as possible
SopelFan 04-27-2007, 11:04 PM Should be a pretty easy game for the Ducks again... :(
DucksWon'07 04-27-2007, 11:11 PM Nieds, Rooch, Paulina, Selanne, Loney..... some french guy. Ladoceur?
Anybody else wanna see Bryz? Giggy did not look good in game 1.
4 sure
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 04-27-2007, 11:12 PM On CBC News before the game, they showed a video of them taking a crew to an Angels game, and they interviewed quite a bit of hardcore Ducks fans. It was pretty neat to see. Many of the people at the Angels game also had Ducks hats on, which is pretty cool.
Well, game 2's starting now, so I better go watch. It would be pretty cool to see another towel-trick (knock on wood). Let's go Ducks!
McDonald19 04-27-2007, 11:15 PM reputation call...
McDonald19 04-27-2007, 11:24 PM Ducks to the powerplay.
Sounds like they are getting outworked in this game?
I cant watch because Sopcast **** the bed for me
McDonald19 04-27-2007, 11:39 PM Parros to the penalty box for throwing a check.
Hockey Duckie 04-27-2007, 11:39 PM You get a penalty for playing physical hockey?
McDonald19 04-27-2007, 11:46 PM 0-0 after 1.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 12:10 AM Jiggy playing well so far and the 2nd. And that's good, because we've been getting dominated.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 12:14 AM Pronger turnover.
1-0 Vanc.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 12:14 AM ****. Naslund scores. 1-0 Canucks.
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 12:14 AM JS lets an easy one in. He was in too deep.
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 12:16 AM Good goal for the Canucks. Ducks aren't skating. I wonder if the Ducks are just messing around and waiting to get riled up before really showing something? Well, at least that's what I'm hoping for, but the Ducks have just been on the receiving end of being p'owned in the 2nd period.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 12:18 AM Power play here. Good time to get some momentum.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 12:21 AM Getz shoots it over the net. But it makes a cool sound when it hits the glass.
On a second look, he didn't miss by much. Then Luongo stops him point blank. Luongo looking good. Stones Selanne on the one timer.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 12:22 AM powerplay looked good.
Luongo had to make some big saves.
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 12:22 AM time for dirty goals. Make it simple and get rebounds. Only way to be a sound goalie is with chaos, not precision shots.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:23 AM Man they held it in for like the first 1:40 on that PP. Good chances. Maybe gets us some momentum.
Oh, Luongo's heating up...
That can't be good.
But can't solve Moen!
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 12:24 AM Moen rebound off the Selanne breakaway.
1-1
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 12:25 AM Dirty goals! Yay!!!!! Tie game. Follow up rebound goal for Moen!
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:25 AM Wowee. Selanne makes a great move but Luongo makes the save. Good thing for the trailer to put it in.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 12:26 AM Looks like Perry just gave the Ducks the lead.
they are going to review it.
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 12:26 AM Holy Crap!!! Did you see a-Perry-go-go! 2-1 Ducks... i hope!
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 12:26 AM man replay shows all pipe...looked like a goal on first view.
Perry just has rotten luck. Blast.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:27 AM Odd richochet sound. I wonder what he hit.
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 12:27 AM Damn... it's pipe.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:30 AM Well it looks like what I'm watching is delayed a good 2 minutes.
jumptheshark 04-28-2007, 12:32 AM Not good by the sounds of it
Okay... so my internet is so slow I can't even watch the game on soapcast anymore (I am not in Vancouver) I am relying on all of you to update me now :). Thanks in advance.
cupie 04-28-2007, 12:35 AM by Perry.
So close.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:36 AM So I'm watching the Canadian feed. If there are any Canadians watching the thread, do you really call them mobile phones? And is mobile pronounced mow-BILE? Just interesting cultural differences, I call them cell phones and pronounce mobile MOW-bul.
So I'm watching the Canadian feed. If there are any Canadians watching the thread, do you really call them mobile phones? And is mobile pronounced mow-BILE? Just interesting cultural differences, I call them cell phones and pronounce mobile MOW-bul.
We call them cell phones too. I, at least don't hear a lot of people calling them mobile phones often. And maybe we do say mow-bile, we just don't notice...
Edit: I just finished reading your post and you pronounce it MOW-BUL? Okay, that's a distinct cultural difference right there. I say mow-BILE as well.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:39 AM Maybe it's just Jim Hughson then.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:40 AM Some nice extracurriculars there.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:42 AM Y'know it woulda been cool if they play 3 on 3 in the situation where there's 2 coincidental minors.
cupie 04-28-2007, 12:44 AM Like to see some composure there, although i dig the fiestiness.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:44 AM Nevermind, coincidental minors mean it's still 5 on 5 right? Yeah I never figured when it's 5 on 5 and when it's 4 on 4.
How is the game so far? Boring?
First period was boring, but the second had a LOT of open ice.
Dugray 04-28-2007, 12:48 AM God damn Ducks have got to stop running Luongo.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 12:49 AM I dunno about that Shannon penalty. He was kind of pushed, and Luongo wasn't in the crease. Probably shouldn't be a penalty, but I can accept it.
Jerky Leclerc 04-28-2007, 12:50 AM I missed the first but the game looks pretty good. Shannon's penalty was bs. Luongo looks like he is standing on his head out there. Lets go Ducks!
cupie 04-28-2007, 01:02 AM has made some great saves.
It seemed that the Ducks were skating a lot better than the Canucks in the last 3rd of the 2nd period.
Hopefully, fatigue is setting in again for the 'Nucks.
has made some great saves.

Its so cool that you actually use titles on your posts.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 01:07 AM Ha. Was that an even up goalie interference?
Let's go PP.
One of the teams ate their Lucky Charms this morning.
Jeez.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 01:12 AM Geez the Canucks are getting their sticks to deflect two chances with gaping nets.
cupie 04-28-2007, 01:14 AM Seriously how many posts are you gonna hit tonight.
Titles Rule!
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 01:15 AM Luke Wilson in the house tonight.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 01:17 AM Selanne took a stick to the nose from his own teammate.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 01:18 AM Ouch. Selanne highsticked by his own teammate.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 01:18 AM right under the eye...thats scary.
BraveSirRobin 04-28-2007, 01:18 AM By Pronger. Hope he's okay.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 01:19 AM There's blood. I demand a double minor!
Selanne took a stick to the nose from his own teammate.
How does he look?
He's back out there on the PP. Nearly put another deflection in the net.
Damnit Getzlaf, stop trying to Perry-drag the puck.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 01:22 AM How does he look?
He's back out there. He's fine...no stitches even.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 01:22 AM How does he look?
little cut under the eye, he will be fine...could have been bad though.
cupie 04-28-2007, 01:23 AM looks like a horror movie.
So Pronger takes out Selanne in the olympics and now... Weird.
:)
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 01:27 AM good non call there...Niedermayer hit into Luongo.
refs screwed up earlier with the call on Shannon.
:biglaugh: at Hayward's muffled "Oh God..."
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 01:28 AM Geez. Vancouver's defensemen really want their goalie run don't they? Fitzpatrick puts Niedermayer into Luongo.
cupie 04-28-2007, 01:28 AM is flopping like a Brazillian forward in the World Cup
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 01:28 AM Chris Kunitz has had 5 or 6 huge hits on Vancouver d-men tonight.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 01:38 AM Under 3 minutes, 3rd period tie game. Nervous time.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 01:41 AM Jesus. Defensive zone faceoff here under 1 minute remaining.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 01:42 AM OT tonite.
I am not even watching and I am pissing my pants.
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 01:44 AM God we are getting thoroughly outplayed in every facet of the game...Canucks are keeping puck possession in our zone for ridiculous stretches it's pretty ugly out there tonight, turnovers galore, Giguere has been outstanding.
Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 01:44 AM OT due to Teemu unable to connect on two open netters, but very good netminding for both team. Vancouver is outplaying the Ducks when compared to game 1.
I give mucho kudos to the Canucks and staff for being very, very prepared.
I dont like how this sounds...
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 01:47 AM The only consolation is that the Ducks are playing a poor game while the Canucks are playing their A game and it's going to OT. Hopefully we can get a deflection or something past Luongo. Oh and will the PP please just get some point shots with traffic. Thanks.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 01:55 AM Selanne's been so close so many times. Does he continue to be snake bit or can he be the hero in OT?
Roberto "4 OT" Luongo vs JS "Mr OT in 03" Giguere.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 02:01 AM Penner demolishes both defensemen there. Krajicek and Mitchell.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:03 AM Perry touches up the puck, but the Ducks get called for icing. Luckily, nothing comes of it.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:04 AM I've got Selanne with the GWG for the Ducks.
Whoever's going to score, it's going to be a deflection off a point shot.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 02:05 AM Well 5 min of OT is over. Too bad we don't have a shootout now...
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 02:09 AM Carlyle is going to have to sneak the 4th line out there for a shift at some point.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:11 AM Jesus. This is torture. Dipenta with a big block there after a brutal turnover by Getz.
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 02:14 AM God we are playing bad...can we even win a faceoff anymore. We have no business winning this game tonight...if we do it will be incredible and will effectively end this series as Vancouver cannot possibly play better.
And... they are looking _________________.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:20 AM OT power play coming up here!!!
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 02:20 AM This is the game.
Ducks are tired...they have to score on this powerplay!!
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 02:20 AM Gotta end here...let's effing go...traffic...point shots...c'mon
I think it's all or nothing on this PP.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 02:21 AM How many PPs has Naslund given us?
This may help us get some momentum back.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:22 AM And... they are looking _________________.
Canucks have had the better of the chances so far in OT. But our pp looks good so far.
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 02:23 AM awful
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:24 AM Now watch out for the makeup call.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:25 AM Well we've looked better since the PP.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 02:25 AM Y'know the game would look a lot easier if we won some faceoffs.
It seems like PPG are ALWAYS on the ice. I guess they're young, won't get tired.
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 02:26 AM God Penner's hands are awful...it's like everyone got a lobotomy after Game 1...stupid puck decisions and awful turnovers all night
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 02:26 AM if Carlyle is scared to play the fourth line...at least sneak out Ryan Shannon for a shift. He should have all kinds of energy.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:28 AM 2nd OT. Good pressure at the end there. I wonder what my BP is.
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 02:29 AM Canucks have been so much more dangerous in the offensive zone than the Ducks. They are getting traffic in front and controlling the puck in the offensive zone for longer stretches. The Ducks will need a fluke goal to win this game if they continue to get outplayed like this.
snarktacular 04-28-2007, 02:31 AM Well maybe we just gave them the last OT period. 2nd OT is our turn to dominate. Maybe.
This is where not having a 4th line or a 3rd defensive pairing hurts. Penner looked pretty gassed near the end, I saw him resting with his hands on his knees.
Lyons71 04-28-2007, 02:40 AM Um there's been 5000 blocked shots this game.
Could they get just one through to Luongo please?!?!?!
I can't possibly tell you how many times I have refreshed this page.
Spankatola Jamnuts 04-28-2007, 02:40 AM This game has been overly long and none too interesting. I hope it ends soon.
cliffy 04-28-2007, 02:43 AM how's everyone doing?
This isn't the Canucks best game but they are playing pretty smart for the most part considering their circumstances.
Selanne scares me, he's been dangerous on most shifts.
I like the way Pyatt and the twins are playing... if Anaheim doesn't end it soon they have a good chance of potting it for our team!
go Canucks go!
Is it that tight that no one is here?
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:49 AM I've thought it's been a pretty good game. Tense. Not an "instant classic" but not bad.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:50 AM I'm here I'll try to keep you updated.
I'm here I'll try to keep you updated.
Thanks Lux :) .
Has Parros had a shift since OT started?
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:51 AM 15 min left. Vancouver with the better of the chances so far. The shutdown line out now against the Sedin's. The Sedin's scre me.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:51 AM Has Parros had a shift since OT started?
No. None of the 4th line has had a shift after regulation.
Parros for the game winner!

Wow, I'm impressed that the fans in the lower bowl all still appear to be at the game.

Hockey Duckie 04-28-2007, 02:57 AM Something to learn from here... bury your chances.
Oh yeah... JS, please play confidently b/c that first goal was... well... should have been stopped.
Great game by the Canucks. From the get go they showed they wanted it more.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 02:57 AM Canucks probably deserved that one.
I still think this is the Ducks series...
that was about as well as the Canucks could play on the road and about as average as the Ducks could play at home.
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 02:58 AM !#$#$%^#$
exactly.
Good night guys. Thanks for all the updates. This will be one hell of a night thanks to all my Vancouver friends.
Hey Carlyle
Maybe you should play all four lines next game
Pwnasaurus 04-28-2007, 02:59 AM Ducks didn't deserve to win tonight. We needed one of those against Luongo and it never came. We will need to get back to the caliber of hockey on display in Game 1. This was a total letdown and an all together awful performance by just about everyone. Lost faceoffs, egregious turnovers, mental errors, horrible powerplays, inability to control the puck down low, etc...they let this team right back in the series.

Yeah, both goals were misplayed by Giguere. The first one he was too deep. The second one, I don't see how it could possibly go shortside. Cowan just threw it into Giggy's feet and it slipped in.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 02:59 AM Hey Carlyle

yup...there is no reason not to at least give Shannon a chance to use his speed against Vancouvers tired defense.

I thought they were average. I didn't see quite the awfulness that you did.
McDonald19 04-28-2007, 03:03 AM Ok we don't need every Canucks fan coming in here and making comments now that their team won. Unless it's a neutral comment keep it at the Canucks board or the Playoffs board.
Prepare for the biggest invasion of Canuck fans ever.
yup...there is no reason not to at least give Shannon a chance to use his speed against Vancouvers tired defense.
There is no logic to it
They didnt see the ice for the whole 3rd nor the first OT?
Everyone would have been dead if the OT's went into the 5's or 7's
lux_interior 04-28-2007, 03:04 AM I thought they were average. I didn't see quite the awfulness that you did.
I agree. It certainly wasn't their A game. More like their B or C game. But defintely not D or F game.
cliffy 04-28-2007, 03:04 AM well, that game wasn't pretty but the Canucks did what they needed to do to get the job done. Hopefully Sami Salo can come back for game 3 in Vancouver and home ice advantage will elevate the Canucks game yet another notch (which they are fully capable of doing).
the Canucks did a good job of taking away ice from Anaheim, but I'm sure the Ducks will have a better outing next game.
hockeydemon05 04-28-2007, 03:04 AM Big effort Canucks tie series and grab home ice advantage.
Hopefully the Ducks and their fans keep under estimating us!!
I think, Canucks fans are imagining Ducks fans underestimating the Nucks.

Great game, sucks it ended that way.
Cya canuckleheads in Vancouver.
Spankatola Jamnuts 04-28-2007, 03:04 AM That game was boring. Game one was boring. This thread is boring and the Nucktards in it are boring.
Can someone wake me when the series is over and we're in the conference finals? There's only so much neutral zone, puck-deflected-out-of-play garbage I can take. Three straight series now, blech...
Flying Elbow 04-28-2007, 03:06 AM Fluky goal? They got it in deep ... huge hit by Linden to knock the guy off the puck and he dishes a sweet pass to Cowan between his legs. Cowan shoots it on net before JSG can even think about a shot and he wasn't ready. I wouldn't call that fluky ... I would call it hard work.
Canucks deserved this one. Close battle but I'll give advantage Canucks. They were the hungrier team.

Still, as good as Vancouver played, Ducks had every chance to win that game and they screwed it up. Selanne in particular blew way too many chances. We have to convert rebounds into goals or this whole series will be long tight overtime games like this where one bounce decides everything. Luongo played good but too many shots were right into his pads or chest from close. I don't fault Giguere on the Naslund goal, that was a bad turnover by Pronger imo. The Cowan goal was awful though, fluke or not. You have to seal off that post and leave no hole for any puck to get through, lucky or not. Also, the offense looked very out of sync for large portions of the game tonight. Some of it was Vancouver players getting their sticks into passing lanes, but I saw way too many Anaheim players just randomly lose the puck in the offensive zone with no pressure whatsoever.
punk_o_holic 04-28-2007, 03:07 AM Prepare for the biggest invasion of Canuck fans ever.
I could picture Robson street right now:shakehead
Even though I live in N van I am rooting for the Ducks because I can't stand the fans celebrating in front of my face. Ducks better win, I could lose $160 and potentially up to $200:(
When the Ducks play in GM place, they fly. The ice there is so much nicer, they are a complete different team.
Winston Wolf 04-28-2007, 03:19 AM Fluky goal? They got it in deep ... huge hit by Linden to knock the guy off the puck and he dishes a sweet pass to Cowan between his legs. That was the definition of a fluke goal. 99 times out of 100 that shot doesn't go in.
Canucks were the better team, but the Ducks still should have came away with the win, just way too many missed chances tonight.
BTW, I love Christine Nubla. She is such a hottie.
cupie 04-28-2007, 03:22 AM The Ducks were playing closest to scoring a goal without actually scoring. We would have won with the first star going to Teemu.
I thought JS did ok.
Congratualations to the 'Nucks.
freakin 04-28-2007, 03:23 AM it was kinda flukey, really Giguere suffered from lack of work in OT, which is often worse than facing shots consistently.

I thought that was one of the better games I have seen in the playoffs, in regulation at least.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 04-28-2007, 03:52 AM Apparently Jiggy was in decent position, but it took a couple of bad bounces(it flipped, hit his pad, hit the post and went it, from what I read). Tough break.
I thought he played well. Hopefully he can keep it up.
As for this game, it sucks, but I'm far from too worried. The Canucks play a good road game, but, they haven't played well at GM Place in these playoffs. They were bound to win a game at the Pond. Also, the Ducks did not play all that good, and it still went to double-OT.
Can't wait for Mayday to get back. I think he could help out alot. Marchant would also be nice, as then our fourth line would actually be pretty decent and could play late in the game.
Popcorn_Shrimp* 04-28-2007, 03:52 AM the goal was kind of a fluke..but it was a fluke that only happened because of a good hit and a nice pass.
Lindens hit and pass gave that fluke a chance to happen..and cowan capitalized....
Nucks outplayed the ducks throughout the first 2 periods.....the 3rd was kiinda even..meh....nucks deserved the win...
I dont like the canucks chances throughout this 7 game series..but u never know.......stranger things have happened

The ducks played well....but the canucks gave them alot less time and space to do creative things and create chances
Mayday will help probably the same as cowan helps the canucks....
At home the canucks havnt played well..which is not good......the ducks should fly with the quality of the ice being what it is...
If Salo bieksa cooke and kesler were back..then i would be more optimistic about the cancuks winning 2 games at home...
i think it will split
Ducksforcup 04-28-2007, 04:06 AM Went to the game. Obviously, a little miffled, but whatevs. The game itself was pretty even, but I agree that the better team one. Crowd was really great BTW! :)
On to Game 3. :)

sour grapes? I thought the game tonight was great. Some sloppy play on both sides, but that led to great chances and solid goaltending. Canucks played about as well as they could without some key guys. Ducks looked a bit scrambled but got it together for prolonged stretches. I really didn't expect the Canucks to put together such a strong effort tonight with the injuries, but kudos to them. Selanne was ever dangerous as well. Both teams' respective PK's kept most chances to the outside (except one Ducks PP where they were hitting the seams so easily) as well.
see ya Sunday night.
edit: as far as trolling, this is common around HF and any hockey board on the net. I hope both fanbases can still keep it somewhat civil. I enjoy talking about the games with opposing fans, often it is good to gain their insights on the game and specific stuff that happens (penalties, goals, etc.) Cheers.

Yosemite Sam couldn't have said it better. Tough way to lose guys. I thought Giggy played good, but I read the rumblings about starting Bryz... Has Giggy been less the Giggy-like lately or something?

Considering we were missing Bieksa and Salo, I am quite confident the Canucks can still play better then that. Good game though, fairly even matched.

If you're counting on good ice in Vancouver, you might be sorely disappointed. The ice in the Dallas series was as bad as I've seen it since GM Place opened its doors.

I wouldn't say imagining when all media outlets say Ducks are going to sweep or win in 5.
If the puck had been on edge, that goal would have never gotten in, the stars were definately aligned on that one tonight. Just sneaked under the pad where there is room between the blade of the skate and the toe of the pad. Couldn't have gotten any closer of a fit.

Canucks outplayed us in the first period, second two seemed pretty even, ducks outplayed the nucks in the first OT. my tivo quit recording after the first OT so I can't comment further.
The Ducks had their chances. Luongo had some luck on the Perry shot, and the Selanne bad angle shot. It seemed like we had so many good chances but the Canucks kept blocking shots. The sad part about this game is Giguere played outstanding, kept us in it early after the shot barrage and then gives up that goal which I still can't figure out how it went in.
Huskins and Dipenta are horrible they could not pass for crap they turned the puck over so many times, Niedermayer and Beauchemin both made a few turnovers but they usually recovered well, these two don't. I was worried about our PP after game 1, even more worried now, we get zone time but they've taken away Pronger.
Selanne had bad luck all night, he was flying, just seemed like he was an inch or two off all game. Besides he, Getzlaf, and our checking line nobody else was much of a threat offensively upfront. And when we had traffic it seemed like the shots never got through.
The ice in Vancouver is better but they could always decide to do a bad job on it.. so we should see alot more speed, I think Andy and Kunitz will be bigger factors as a result.. and you gotta think some of these Canuck dmen are getting worn down, Ohlund and Mitchell are getting hit everytime they have the puck. If we keep getting this many chances every game we will score more than one goal, ducks had some bad luck tonight imo
Also they activated dmen from the points all night, going forward it will be important to chip pucks by them and generate some odd man attacks.

Jerky Leclerc 04-28-2007, 11:28 AM We got a series boys! Honestly, did anyone want the Ducks to coast by the second round? THe Canucks aren't underdogs anymore after their impressive performance. Now the Ducks can regroup and raise our game at GM place. If we can get a split in Vancouver, the Ducks will gain back home ice advantage again.
Lets go Ducks!
BraveSirRobin 04-28-2007, 01:14 PM It was a decent game. The Canucks came to play and the Ducks played, well, so-so. Giguere should have stopped the first goal, the second goal is just one of those goals that just happens in the playoffs.
Oh well, this should make for an interesting series.
190Octane 04-28-2007, 01:38 PM The Canucks might have out shot the Ducks but it seemed to me that the Ducks had a lot more near misses and high quality scoring chances.
Luongo stole a game but can he steal another one?
I am tired of all the Canuck fans complaining about their injuries, we know what they are missing. But is not our fault that they don't know how to finish a series when you are up 3-1. Its hockey, injuries happen.
Steveorama 04-28-2007, 02:06 PM Luongo stole a game but can he steal another one?
Sound like the quotes from Dallas fans after Luongo won the first game in the last round...
Anaheim is going to have to elevate their game to win this series, in spite of the media predictions of a 4-5 game shellacking by the Ducks.
I think the Ducks are able to play better and probably will, but this series will still go 6 or 7 games...should be great!
I like the winner of this series to beat whoever comes out of the SJ/Detroit conf semi.
Peter Griffin 04-28-2007, 02:23 PM Luongo stole a game but can he steal another one?
I don't see why not, he's been stealing games all year long for the Canucks.

This is the first one he's stolen against the Ducks in 5 tries.
Stranger things have happened but last night had so many bad breaks and posts and what not.
19nazzy 04-28-2007, 04:01 PM Luongo stole a game but can he steal another one?
Coming from a fan of a team that had their goalie basically steal games for them all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, I'm pretty sure you guys know it can happen again. Especially with the way he's played.
Static 04-28-2007, 04:30 PM I didnt get to see this one....sounds exciting though. Too bad we lost.

Street Hawk 04-28-2007, 05:59 PM Can the Ducks continue to have a 4th line that combines for 5.5 minutes for 3 players, like they played in Game 2 against Vancouver?
Parros was just over 2 minutes, Thornton was under 1 minute, and Shannon was 2.5 minutes. For a game that went almost 87 minutes, that's a lot for the other 9 forwards to eat up.
If Vancouver can managed to keep the game close in the 1st period, and ideally tied, that should keep Parros and Thornton on the bench, and thus make the Ducks into a 3 line team. Maybe, that wears the other 9 forwards down as the series moves along. Who knows...
