so i noticed this happening in anaheim before every playoff game. how long have they been doing that for? do you know why they do it? traditionally, there are just Canadian and American flags hung in every rink for people to look at while the anthems are being performed. i'm curious to know if this tradition has anything to do with the whole identity change the franchise underwent after the sale by disney or if there's more (or less) to it than that.

I assume you mean American colors (you wacky Canadians and that U!). :sarcasm:

I think that's an occassional thing. Not every game. But, I may be wrong.

Yep, it is done every game I believe. It has become sort of a tradition and a sign of respect for our soldiers. At first, it wasn't done every game, but now it is. :)

Just to go slightly off topic. But why is it whenever we play a Canadian team the anthem singer has to sing O Canada so damn fast? I like their anthem so much more and they butcher it by singing it so fast. Where's Coach D when you need him?

Funny note. I sang along to O Canada whereas the Canadian next to me sang along to the Star Spangled Banner. Go figure.

I actually like the Canadian anthem better in French, it just sounds nicer. But yeah, I've noticed that they sing the anthem a little fast at times.

It's not an every game thing normally, I think it has been for the playoffs though.

Don't mean to sound rude, but what are you talking about?

bayrider, if you watch the start of a game in anaheim on tsn (not rds, cuz they never show the anthems) you'll see what i mean. the pa announcer says "and now presenting the american colours," and they have some folks come out carrying flags (american and army/navy related i'm guessing) after the canadian anthem is done and before the american anthem begins.

thanks everyone for your replies! yeah, i figured i'd get some jabs for leaving the u in colour but it's just natural for me haha.

and yeah, i noticed the fast canadian anthem too, but i'm used to american anthem singers doing something wrong to our anthem, which i can understand, because it's not like many people outside canada would hear it often enough to know the words, but if you don't know it why perform it in public? oh well, just know you're not alone there. i think it's detroit where they sing "true patriots love" instead of true patriot love.

i sing the star spangled banner at games, ever since sept. 11. it was easy to pick up the words then because the american anthem was being played everywhere you went. i'd actually like to do the anthem at an nhl game some day.

think someone can get me down to anaheim?:sarcasm:

bodybreak, those are the Marine color guard. They've been presenting the colors pretty much every game since the lockout.
