Ducks long wait over (Written by Dan Wood)
Four days of uncertainty ended when the Ducks finally learned the identity of their second-round Stanley Cup playoff opponent.
The Vancouver Canucks qualified to face the Ducks in the Western Conference semifinals with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars in the seventh game of their opening-round series Monday night.
Vancouver — the Northwest Division champion by virtue of a 49-26-7 regular-season record good for 105 points, five fewer than the Ducks — becomes the fifth consecutive Ducks postseason opponent from the Northwest.

Players to Watch
Since the Portland Pirates season is over ( :( ), I figured I would start a new section "Players to Watch." I will pick a player(s) from each team as my player to watch for that game. I could pick the same players two games in a row. So, without further ado...
-Anaheim Ducks
http://anaheimducks.com/images/200609/1444.f.jpg
#26-Samuel Palhson: The defensive ace of the Anaheim Ducks, Palhson will be charged with the unenviable task of shutting down the Sedin twins. Palhson, one of the premiere defensive centers in the game, was able to effectively shut down the Gaborik/Demitra pairing and his line actually scored more points than either team's top line. Will he be able to continue his brilliance and shut down his friends from Sweden?
Vancouver Canucks
http://nhl.speedera.net/image-upload/sedins102202_look_on_265x194.jpg
#22-Daniel Sedin
#33-Henrik Sedin: The two Sedin brothers are easily the Vancouver Canuck's best and most creative scoring threat. They may be the best cyclers of the puck in the entire game, making them tough to shut down. The Dallas Stars, despite their best efforts, could not fully contain the Sedins and they were able to capitalize. Their next task is to face the Duck's grind line of Samuel Palhson, Travis Moen, and Rob Niedermayer. Will they be able to be effective offensively?

Well, that is all for me everyone. Toodle loo! I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS GAME! :yo: Have a good evening and a good sleep! :)
Nice GDT as always DFC. I just got my brand new black Anaheim Ducks jersey and I must admit is a pretty sick looking jersey, I didn't like it when they first presented it but it has grown on me. I also drove by the Pond a couple of days ago when I was down in Cali and it looks better than I used to remember it.
Ps. that's a tough trivia question

Aren't the jerseys awesome? I have a black one myself. :yo: I am going to put "Beauchemin" on the back in the off-season. :D
Ducksforcup 04-25-2007, 01:15 AM Yep, first two games are on local television. :) (Next one on FSN).
Thanks for the accolades! :)

I am always ecstatic, though, when Pahlsson gets the shout-out. Great job!

 GOD!
Indeed he does. Here (http://battleofcalifornia.blogspot.com/2007/04/ana-min-review-forget-selke-lets-give.html)'s some Pahlsson love for ya.
Pahlsson was on the ice for 63% of Gaborik’s 5-on-5 ice time and 64% of Demitra’s. In addition to that impressive even-strength duty, he also led all Ducks in penalty-killing time (27:35, 55% of Anaheim’s total shorthanded time), in which the Wild managed to score zero PP goals. Remember, the Wild had the sixth-best power play in the league over the course of the regular season.
In the 5-game series, Sammy led all Ducks with 16 hits (twice as much as any of his teammates) and 58 faceoff wins (27 more than any of his teammates).
ktulu98 04-25-2007, 02:22 AM only 1 thing to say, he is GOD
we know that and it's time to realize it by league too, right selke?
snarktacular 04-25-2007, 02:30 AM Pahlsson was on the ice for 63% of Gaborik’s 5-on-5 ice time and 64% of Demitra’s.
Is it me or does that actually seem a little low? Or is it about expected due to there being 2/5 of the games in Minnesota where he was matched up less?
Earl Sleek 04-25-2007, 02:44 AM Is it me or does that actually seem a little low? Or is it about expected due to there being 2/5 of the games in Minnesota where he was matched up less?
It does feel a bit low; for these numbers I am relying on a pretty sweet (if it's accurate) site (http://www.timeonice.com/) that tracks 5-on-5 ice time and player correlations. It sweeps the NHL shift charts and lines them up nicely for guys like me with zero skills in that regard.
Per the H/R splits, though, I got results that said Pahlsson matched up with Gaborik 68% at home and 54% on the road; with Demitra 65% at home and 62% on the road.
I'll have to go to one of these game charts and do it by hand to check the accuracy, but that's the source, at least. Even though it seems like Pahlsson is everywhere all the time, he does rest sometimes (like all four goals-against in G4).
Plus Lemaire's no idiot. I'm sure he was able to get some free Gabby time through some coaching trickery.
Lyons71 04-25-2007, 04:46 AM Hopefully the Ducks learned their lesson about poor starts after sitting out a while from last year... I am very fearful of this game.
Respect Your Edler 04-25-2007, 05:15 AM Good luck guys, hopefully it will be a good one. You have a very good team and fanbase. Should be a chippy series.

Trivia answers should be Kesler, Burrows, Green and Smith for the Nucks and Dipenta for the Ducks?
PS: These will probably be my last kind words to you till the series is over ;)
snarktacular 04-25-2007, 11:48 AM Also Gaborik played a bit of PK remember.
Well supposedly that's 5 on 5 ice time, PK shouldn't factor in.
I guess considering that we essentially play 3 lines, Pahlsson should be at 33 percent with no line matching. So to be almost double that might actually be impressive.
Steveorama 04-25-2007, 12:08 PM Trivia answers should be Kesler, Burrows, Green and Smith for the Nucks and Dipenta for the Ducks?
Add Bieksa to that list, as well.
Kent Huskins of the Ducks played in Manitoba for Carlyle, too.
Davey Duck 04-25-2007, 12:32 PM Well supposedly that's 5 on 5 ice time, PK shouldn't factor in.
I guess considering that we essentially play 3 lines, Pahlsson should be at 33 percent with no line matching. So to be almost double that might actually be impressive.
People also need to keep in mind that just because Gaborik gets on the ice doesn't mean Pahlsson can just jump on. It could take him :30 to get the opportunity to get out there, and also it's not likely that Lemaire was throwing Gaborik out when Pahlsson was already there. So, there's definitely going to be parts of the shifts that don't overlap. 2/3 is pretty good overlap.

19nazzy 04-25-2007, 04:10 PM 2 of our top 4 defensemen won't be in. I expect Anaheim to not dress Pronger and Niedermayer in the effort of fair play.

Bieksa is probably gone for a few games. He was our leading TOI for the team. Salo was probably our 3rd best defenseman after Mitchell and Bieksa.
Pronger4Pope 04-25-2007, 04:19 PM last time we played you guys i thought Bieksa was by far your best defenseman.
Steveorama 04-25-2007, 04:20 PM Bad luck, but the Canucks gotta suck it up, it's part of the playoffs.

Haven't you been paying attention? We're dirty cheaters. Not only are we dressing Pronger and Niedermayer, we're borrowing Regehr and Kaberle to play on our third pairing. And Parros is going after Ohlund's knee. AND the lights will go out every time Vancouver has the puck. And the visitor's locker room won't have any clean towels. We're pulling out all the stops here.

Yeah, that was a pretty amazing call. As soon as you say that, Mac scores with 6 players in front of Luongo and no possible way Luongo saw it.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 10:27 PM Perry passes to Pronger at the top of the ice and Pronger launches it. It bounces off in front of the scrum. Andy picks up the puck and patiently skates around the scrum and waits to find the opening, to which he makes the best of it.

Ducks look good. The penalties in the beginning hurt them but they have taken over this game in the last few minutes. The combination of size and speed is hard to control.
...good grief, they scored again when I said something positive about them...
SamitheGreat 04-25-2007, 10:38 PM Teemu drops one in after a nice pass from Andy Mac...
Ducksforcup 04-25-2007, 10:39 PM Another Ducks PP...Vancouver on their heels.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 10:40 PM Wow! Awesome goal! Kunitz to Andy near the boards and Andy hits a gliding Teemu who goes from forehand to backhand into half an open net. Awesome!

I am going to the Vancouver site to see how they're doing...I'll be back...this feels like crashing a party...
McDonald19 04-25-2007, 10:41 PM man that was a sweet goal...
Ducksforcup 04-25-2007, 10:42 PM The Ducks got the message about traffic that is for sure. There is always at least 2 Ducks in front of the net when a shot occurs.
Guy Legend 04-25-2007, 10:43 PM Selanne is amazing...
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 10:43 PM The refs are allowing a lil' interference in slowing down the Duck players from getting to the puck on the Van PK.

Andy from Teemu!
Ducksforcup 04-25-2007, 10:44 PM ANDY MAC!!!!!!!!!!! :handclap::handclap::handclap:

Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 10:44 PM Selanne pays Andy back on the rush. Andy goes forth, half dekes and slides the puck between Luongo's five hole. Ducks up 3-1.
ktulu98 04-25-2007, 10:45 PM 3:1 wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooha :handclap:
Ducksforcup 04-25-2007, 10:46 PM The Nucks seemingly cannot handle the Duck's speed. Unlike the Wild series, speed will make a huge difference.
End of period. 3-1.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 10:49 PM 1st period: Ducks 3, Canucks 1.
Vancouver is playing well with the Ducks. The Ducks have rust showing throw (Scotty missing pucks and many turnovers). The non-existant first line in the Wild Series has decided to put a stamp on this series early with 3 goals to show for it. Without the PP or the quickness of the first line, the Canucks could be holding a 1-0 lead. A different set of players to rely upon in this series. My, oh, my how versatile the Ducks are.

McDonald19 04-25-2007, 11:08 PM Burrows taking some free shots at Selanne.
thats what Burrows does...terrible fighter but he has to agitate to stay in the NHL.
Ref gives Selanne a call for complaining about the shots from Burrows.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:09 PM Wow. Teemu gets a penalty for having an opinion. Hmmm.

I've actually sung with them. True story.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:12 PM Ducks kill the "opinionated" penalty. Although, Van nearly got a goal due to a lot of ping-ponging off of different players.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:15 PM A PP opportunity for the Ducks by way of Ohlund hooking. 4th PP for the Ducks.
Davey Duck 04-25-2007, 11:15 PM Pennywise singer is at the Duck game. :yo:
Next game we'll have a country singer.
McDonald19 04-25-2007, 11:17 PM incidental contact...where is Kunitz supposed to go?
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:18 PM Kunitz with a pick. Penalty. 4-4 for a bit. then a Van PP
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:23 PM OT- I just saw a close-up of AndyMac. If that's his beard at about 2 weeks worth of growth, then I make him look good enough to Michael Jackson when compared to what I have! LoL
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:24 PM ahhahhahaha Behind Luongo there are fans with 'Staches! LoL

McDonald19 04-25-2007, 11:41 PM Luongo keeping his team in the game.
should be 5 or 6 to 1.
Hockey Duckie 04-25-2007, 11:42 PM Oh! Andy couldn't lift the puck high enough because the top of net was open due to Luongo fishing along the ice.
Ducksforcup 04-25-2007, 11:46 PM Good period. Just one more baby!
Kingswin 04-25-2007, 11:49 PM If ducks win this game..they take the series..

Pwnasaurus 04-25-2007, 11:56 PM If ducks win this game..they take the series..
Indeed. Every team to win the 1st game of a playoff series goes on to win the series it's skientific.

McDonald19 04-26-2007, 12:05 AM Ducks powerplay coming up...finish them!
snarktacular 04-26-2007, 12:06 AM Oh yeah, Rory Fitzpatrick. How come no one mentioned him as a gamebreaker for the Canucks? Like how he just gave us a PP.
McDonald19 04-26-2007, 12:07 AM powerplay looks good tonight...no problems getting control in the zone and setting up at all.
Snap Wilson 04-26-2007, 12:12 AM We're doing a good job of mixing up the looks we give them, too. Don't settle for the windup from Pronger. Everyone knows that's coming.

nice passing by the kids...Perry to Penner to Getzlaf.

Heyzeus666 04-26-2007, 12:15 AM Luongo is definitely no Turco when it comes to that aspect of the game. heh
snarktacular 04-26-2007, 12:16 AM Ha, Sabourin is in.
Hockey Duckie 04-26-2007, 12:16 AM Goalie change. Luongo is now trying to be a poor man's version of Bryz.
Kevin Forbes 04-26-2007, 12:16 AM so long-o Luongo for the rest of the night, it seems
(I'll admit, I just wanted to say "so long-o Luongo")
Pwnasaurus 04-26-2007, 12:21 AM Naslund still wears #19 right? Just checking.
cmcdmania 04-26-2007, 12:23 AM Haha. I get in my car, I turn on the radio.. and Getzlaf scores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McDonald19 04-26-2007, 12:24 AM Selanne saw the opportunity to get some revenge on Burrows.
Heyzeus666 04-26-2007, 12:25 AM Burrows wants some of Selanne-what a tough guy lol
snarktacular 04-26-2007, 12:26 AM Ha. Selanne dishing it back to Burrows. Although he gets the penalty.
McDonald19 04-26-2007, 12:33 AM Stache and Thornton getting some powerplay time!
Pronger4Pope 04-26-2007, 12:33 AM Giggy looks real sloppy.

McDonald19 04-26-2007, 12:34 AM Andy Mac hat-trick!

snarktacular 04-26-2007, 12:36 AM HATTIE. Andy Mac says off first series what?

No no. We will not call them "hatties." No Altitude-isms.
Phaneufed 04-26-2007, 12:38 AM Luongo = best goalie ever right?
Hockey Duckie 04-26-2007, 12:39 AM A 5-3 PP goal by Andy Mac. Huskins at the top of the ice and passed it down to the corner to Andy. Andy crept towards the net and Sab thought it would be a pass, but Andy shot the puck above the goalie's paddle and in between the legs. The hats and flags began to fly onto the ice.
Pwnasaurus 04-26-2007, 12:39 AM :teach: yahh ice girls get to skate around and pick up the hats and towels.

Exactly!
Pwnasaurus 04-26-2007, 12:40 AM Luongo = best goalie ever right?
Certainly he's better than Brodeur right? Because of all the great playoff success he's had... :sarcasm:
Pwnasaurus 04-26-2007, 12:42 AM bedtime. Good game tonight boys. I enjoy non-stressful games in which we win. :handclap:
Luongo is a good goalie, but judging from games we played against Luongo in the regular season he is doesn't do that great when he plays the Anaheim offense. We must be doing something that gets to him. Maybe is our home ice :).
-mball 04-26-2007, 12:44 AM Predictable game. Canucks missing four key players and a tired Luongo gets to finally have a rest.
snarktacular 04-26-2007, 12:44 AM So is the moral of the night "missing two of your top defensemen" > "rust from almost a week off"?
Ducksforcup 04-26-2007, 12:46 AM Great win! I can't complain! Congrats to all, especially Mac.
On to Game 2. :)
cmcdmania 04-26-2007, 12:46 AM Yay. Congrats to Andy Mac. NHL's first star (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?page=ThreeStarsPage&service=page)!!

cliffy 04-26-2007, 12:47 AM Well... that was a gimme for the Ducks, lol! The Canucks looked absolutely brutal out there. They just couldn't cope missing 2 of their top 4 defencemen -- Anaheim took advantage of horrible defensive work.
Hopefully the game will go to the Ducks heads and give them a false sense of reassurance, because the rest of the games here on in are going to be much tighter.
Predictable game. Canucks missing four key players and a tired Luongo gets to finally have a rest.
Aw c'mon. We all know you were missing key players and Luongo was tired, all Canuck fans don't have to come in here and let us know every post. Canucks only showed some hope during the first 10mins of the game.
BraveSirRobin 04-26-2007, 12:50 AM Great win, good to see the Ducks take over there. Congrats to Andy Mac on his hat trick!
Here is where Niedermeyer & Pronger REALLY come in handy. Not on the ice, but that locker room presence to keep the players focused & confident, not cocky and underestimating their opponents...

fullclip 04-26-2007, 01:00 AM Wow I never realized how underrated Andy Mcdonald is. Him and Selanne do everything at such a fast pace its amazing to watch (when its not against my team).
Ducks sure looked like they had their timing right after such a long lay off. Hopefully the Canucks will be better next game.
I am probably the most hated guy in Vancouver for now.

Sopel is probably a close second. God he was brutal.
Slapshooter 04-26-2007, 01:18 AM Gonrats to Ducks. It's cool to see the most Canadian hockey team to win :yo:
Too bad we rookies can't grow any 'stache here. Moustache are just too cool. You just can't beat the 'stache. Ever.
Lord Stanley gonna give himself to the porn power of 'stache. He just can't resist it. Too bad the other silly teams don't undestand it. They should give up while they still have a chance. Well, they gonna learn the power of 'stache hard way. Resistance is futile.

Considering Pronger's size/playing time ratio, that is an understatement. Ducks have a mutha******* Bismarck in their lineup and I doubt that one ever sinks.
Lyons71 04-26-2007, 02:07 AM Good game Ducks. Way to go!!!
:handclap:
Skated em out of the building.
Some nice passing plays this game.
Randall Graves* 04-26-2007, 02:07 AM Only complaint about tonights game would be only getting 1 ppg on Luongo with all those chances but we looked good through most of them. Our PK didn't give up a whole lot to the Canucks at all they were very good.
Great to see our top line put in 9 points tonight. Also great to see Pronger throwing some big hits, Niedermayer after that non clear really gave the Canucks trouble with his speed and puck handling in transition.
Giguere was good I don't remember him giving up many rebound chances at all.
I am probably the most hated guy in Vancouver for now.
Yea no kidding, if we win this series I wont be able to go back to BC for a while :(
Congrats on the win. I found myself strangely rooting for you guys.
I feel dirty.
lolz at all the Nuck whiners complaining about the Anaheim crowd. Just when you think you've seen it all on hfboards. They get smacked around, and complain about the crowd. You'd think they would have other, more important issues to deal with. Unreal.
Good luck in Game 2.
Giguere played a solid game, not that pucks rained on him but he had good poistioning all game long and didn't give many rebounds. That being said, I thought Giguere could have easily had that Cowan shot. Oh well...
banana phone 04-26-2007, 03:38 AM solid game, guys. You outclassed us in all aspects of the game. Impressed with the Ducks puck movement, especially in the offensive zone. I hope we can get some bodies back to make a series of it, because I honestly don't think the Canucks played bad tonight and look at the score.
theShiba 04-26-2007, 03:39 AM Did anyone see that guy with the "Snoop Dogg welcomes you to Honda Center" sign during the KDOC highlight reel? It was toward the end of the game, maybe 2nd to last commercial break?
Freaking awesome.

Vancouver needs better transition defense as well as better outlet passes in game 2. They were killed in both respects tonight...they may need to trap a little more to contain Anaheim's speed. They just dont have the legs to keep up right now. We'll see.

Bit early to worry about that. But I'd rather worry about that than worry about winning the series at all.
Davey Duck 04-26-2007, 12:53 PM Is anyone worried that the Ducks won't be ready for the next team if they steamroll over the Canucks?
I only worry about a first game letdown (luckily last night it was a first 5 minute letdown). I think after that, they'll get it going especially if they play 4 or 5 and the Sharks/Wings play 6 or 7. The Canucks are going to be in trouble considering they haven't had 2 consercutive days off since the playoffs started and wouldn't get tehm again until after game 5 in this series. Hopefully the Sharks/Wings have the same issues.
