Teemu rebukes Duck fans

Don't be mean to my little friend (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-ducks20dec20,1,5196809.story?coll=la-headlines-sports):

"I'm not surprised," said Selanne, who was never booed in the Pond in the two-plus seasons with San Jose after the Ducks traded him.

"The fans can do what they like, they paid for their ticket. Maybe they can boo me and leave Paul alone. I think it would be embarrassing if they did that to Paul after all he did here. It was a business decision."

I wasn't embarrassed. I pretty happy with how the whole thing went down. Looking forward to a repeat on 1/30.

Shouldn't have happened to Teemu, IMO. But with saying "It was a business decision.", he disqualifies Kariya himself. You don't make that kind of decisions to friends, especially after saying for years what Kariya said...

yeah and kariya not accepting a pay cut and going to the avs for below the league average contract is buisness, yeah ooook!...it wasnt a buisness decision,it was a decision to somewhere to win the cup tho he was one game away from winning it..oh and with the comment he made about what kariya did for anaheim, its not what hes DONE for the team and city,ITS what he DID to the team and city in the summer...

I thought they'd go easy on Teemu, myself. I figured Teemu would hear it if Kariya was on the ice, but not if Kariya wasn't.

Instead, he got it good and loud every time. It was enjoyable. Teemu seemed pretty chippy out there - he's not the Teemu we remember.

Teemu always play hard against the Ducks. Watch other Avs game and the guy is invisible. Hey if the Wings fans can boo Fedorov, the Ducks can boo Selanne and hopefully louder at Kariya. Great to see the Ducks play start playing physical against Selanne. They always seem to play soft against him.

Hey the booing seemed to throw teemu off his game.

I'm all for it!

I'd say the opposite - if Kariya were playing Selanne wouldn't have got the response he got. It's just venting ;)

I think you are right. If kariya was there i don't think selanne would have been booed. but since kariya wasn't there they wanted to bo someone theve been waiting all season to do it..... I really liked it though that was a fun game to watch on TV. great to see bylsma back.

I'll boo Selanne on Jan. 30th and I'll boo Kariya twice as loud.

The biggest irony of the whole night was Selanne hitting someone from behind.

Teemu's been chippier in the games against San Jose as well, too bad he didn't have that edge to his game when he was with the Sharks. And he seems to be taking more of those penalties/non calls when the announcers say "He isn't that kind of player" Maybe the altitude is making him meaner... still a class act guy though.

I love how Carney came in and knocked Selanne over after that hit on Johnson. And then they showed Johnson having words with Teemu and you could see Teemu say "f-you" .

I've noticed McDonald is starting to be more of a trashtalker out there as well. After he was knocked into the goal by Morris and after that whole scrum he went past Aebischer and talked some $&*+ to him :)

IMO, D. Sutter helped to make him more chippier, but ya- too bad he didn't start playing that way with SJ.

I'll be there on Jan 30th, wearing my Kariya Ducks jersey and cheering loudly for Kariya and Selanne.

It doesn't bother me at all that he left, even leaving the way he did. Sure they got close last season, but so what. Kariya did what was best for himself. He gave Anaheim, what 10 years? He was the face of the Mighty Ducks, jokes and all. I'm glad he went to one of my other favorite teams and that he can play with Selanne, cause it's gives me an excuse to the gf to order Center Ice.

Boo Kariya and Selanne all you want, but you know you'd love to have them on the Ducks.

Actually, if they wanted to come back to the Ducks I'd tell them to f off.

I want nothing to do with those ******** except to boo them.

Kariya also took 71 million dollars and left Anaheim the FIRST chance he got, sure he was the "face" because Disney placed the C on him which was a prop to begin with.

I don't want Kariya back I have no real problem with Selanne but as far as i'm concerned the only time I wanna see Kariya is after Vish checks him to the ice.

I think the list of people who get booed everytime they touch the puck is up to 3 now:

Mike Modano
Teemu Selanne
Paul Kariya(obvious one)

Any more?

Personally, if I were at the game, I wouldn't boo Selanne or Kariya. But I don't have a problem with other people booing them.

I would smile and cheer if they get steamrolled on a clean check by Salei, Vishnevsky, or anyone.

I didn't boo him. I've only ever booed refs and Scott Stevens. I usually just sit and cringe at hockey games.

why modano? not that being mike modano (and on the stars! a double whammy!) isn't enough of a reason to boo him, i'm just curious if he did something in particular that i've forgotten about.

Comments during the playoffs. Giguere's pads, the Ducks stickwork making his arms look like those of a heroin addict, calling the run a little bubble that needed to be burst.

Whining incessantly on the ice, looking like Mr. Ed...there's all kinds of reasons...

Same for me.

The only player I've booed was Madono during the playoffs last year because he was a whiny hypocrite. And yes, I did give in to the crowd mentalitiy of it all, but it was sure fun! It's too bad because I never thought Modano was that type of a player.

The thing about TS and PK is that if it was only business, then why do they keep yapping in the press? I don't think that TS was booed only because PK wasn't there. That was part of it, but TS has said some things this season (i.e., saying when PK put up the bounty, he put up even more $; the whole thing about JSG's pads, etc.,) that contributed to the booing. Plus he's probably seen as PK's accomplice, tainted with the same brush and all that.

One thing I noticed is that it doesn't seem like Keith Carney thinks to highly of TS. I haven't seen him hit like that too often, and he seemed to really be on a mission Friday night. :D

Oh yeah. He was a little whiny b!tch throughout the playoffs.

Remember when Rusty got in that cheap shot against Modano a few years back? He got suspended for a while, and I think he gets booed in Dallas a lot. But, it was pretty awesome watching that.

When Selanne got a penalty for boarding, the song that was played was "Dude Looks Like a Lady" by Aerosmith. Don't know if it was intentional or not. But it was funny.

Mr. Modano was simply struck by the skating finesse of Mr. Salei and fell forward in complete awe.
There was no shot, shove or check

Hmm, I guess it wasn't. All I remember was seeing Salei go near Modano, Modano went down pretty hard and then he got suspended.

don't be listening to the drivel of Stars fans....

Modano is so tipsy on his skates that the mere gust of wind caused by Salei's passing threw him violently into the boards

I have no problem with anyone booing Kariya, everyone has the right to do whatever they want to have their voice heard. Myself I would wear my Kariya jersey to the Jan 30 game and cheer him when he scored (unless it was the GWG). He is the sole reason I got interested in hockey and the Mighty Ducks and the main reason why I spent close to $1000 on Mighty Ducks merchandise in the past 6 years.

Just out of interest.... that Selanne quote about not booing Paul, didn't Bryan Murray say something similar earlier in the year about how seeing that guy with "traitorious rat" on his jersey and all the hate towards Kariya made Murray angry? It sounded, from memory, like a very similar quote to Selanne's from December 19. Anyone remember it or have a link?
