Poignant Discussion 04-23-2007, 02:53 PM I live in the city of Ottawa, it is a beautiful city with lots of friendly people, warm summers and generally a safe place to live. The only fault that Ottawa has, is that it's home to the Senators.
Senator fans are a strange bunch, they find hope in any little thing (sure we lost 7-1 but Emery had great rebound control! or We only lost 6-1 because the other team paid off the refs). And this hope in the 2006-07 must be squashed now.
Let me tell you a story, it happened a few short years ago. It was a warm May day and Senator fans had their flags on their cars, were wearing red and black and were planing the parade route for their eventual Stanley Cup. I watched the game in stone silence praying the worst was not going to happen and thanks to inspired play by Marty and the boys it never did.
The fallout was huge, people crying while taking off their flags. The newspapers making excuses or blaming a certain 2nd year defenseman and the smug looks that have been around all year were rudely wiped off their faces.
It might have been the best day of my life. Please for the love of hockey and god do not make my worst nightmare happen. I don't trust Buffalo or New York enough to actually get the job done, you guys are my last hope. I promise to buy a Devils jersey if you could please help me out just one more time....I might even forget game 82

Classic...
We, as fans promise to do our part... and while I cannot speak for my brethren - I can promise you my hatred of Daniel Alfredsson is unmatched save a select few who remain scattered throughout the NHL (Draper shall feel Cam's fury one day).
I will do my duty and support the team and these loyal fans in our best attempt to ensure this is a scene in the not distant future:

gampy 04-23-2007, 03:02 PM Lol. They couldn't beat the Islanders in the final game of the season, why would they beat Ottawa for you now?
Go back to your Tie Domi, Gary Roberts, and Dougie Gilmour rookie cards, and dream of springtime 1967.
All I Ever Wanted 04-23-2007, 03:08 PM :biglaugh: actually, we ottawa fans are a pessimistic bunch.

Yes lets forget about all the parades that have been thrown in New Jersey as well....
I'll go back to my Gary Roberts, and Dougie Gilmour rookie cards the same time you go back to your Radek Bonk and Alexander Daigle rookie cards :)

Don't you think that says something?
Aren't you still supposed to be outraged that Lou didn't put Brodeur in net?

I'd place it ahead of my first marriage for sure....maybe behind the first time I went camping though
And I'm more peed off that the NHL allowed a player who failed a steroid test to play in the last 4 games, but the Leafs didn't deserve to make the playoffs. I have accepted that fact
The Worst Poster 04-23-2007, 03:18 PM Nice.

No, I'm pretty sure they want to win it so they can attempt to win their forth Stanley Cup in 12 years and I'm just behind that sort of history being made!!!!
:naughty:

4th year, 3rd full season... and not nearly enough blame was shouldered by Havlat for putting a stick on Friesen just long enough to send Redden towards Marshall and then letting Friesen go completely.

See but you know hockey, unlike the unqualified hacks that write for the team.
I'll give the ladies and gents a taste of what hockey writing is all about here in Ottawa

Good example to support the typical excuses of Sens fans that the thread starter was talking about.:handclap:

Chris Stevenson isn't that bad.
Any journalist in sports who puts their reputation on the line like that is eventually going to get burned.

True, but putting your reputation on the line when it comes to draft picks is a bad call even if your team has the #1 pick. Unless your a reporter for the Leafs, then your pick is as good as anyones!
Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Be nice!!!
Maybe we are a bunch of losers who only can get the girl if she is drunk and desperate BUT....
We take the heat off of 29 other teams because we are so hated...wait 28 teams Montreal is more hated than us
DevFan-RU- 04-23-2007, 03:38 PM Hahaha, the Toronto Maple Leafs... I dunno why people hate them.

Sorry, I live in Toronto and I can't help venting out at the Leafs sometimes (well, most of the time). This year more than others because too many stupid fans, commentators and writers have been spreading absolute BS about the Devils this year.
I read/listen to them all, then I go to work (or HFBoards) to see people parroting those viewpoints word for word and then try to pass them off as original thoughts.
I'll try to be nice now.

Wow, this guy doesn't even try to convince you that his second fav team is the Devils and that he's cheering for you to win or anything. He just goes straight into his hatred of the Sens and pleads to the fans of the Devils to somehow bring him a small taste of hockey happiness by to defeating a team that he hates. How he expects the fans to have anything to do with a Devils play on the ice is a mystery for another thread. Pathetic:D

Masterplan 04-23-2007, 04:59 PM Chris Stevenson isn't that bad.....
Chris Steveson IMO is probably the worst beat writer out there. I even put him behind Garrioch (somewhere i definitely would not want to be!), but back to Mr. Steveson, he goes on these rants that bring him knowledge of the game into question again and again, that I just can't read his articles anymore!

THE worst?
Nah.
He's mediocre but he fills most of his pages with human-interest fluff which appeals to some people.
Someone like Al Strachan who is hopelessly wrong over and over and over again is worse.
Classic Devil 04-23-2007, 05:48 PM I go away for all of four hours and I come back to this nonsense.
