Spensar 04-23-2007, 12:55 PM Who is going to round out the Devils lines for the 2nd round. I have these but who goes into the other spots?
Elias,Ginota,Gomez
Parise- Zajac-Langenbrunner
Pandolfo-Madden-
4th line?
Colin Whites Eye 04-23-2007, 12:57 PM Elias-Gomez-Gionta
Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner
Pandolfo-Madden-Brylin
Rupp-Dowd-Rasmussen
is what weve been using
devils26 04-23-2007, 01:28 PM I think that after 1 or 2 games, the physicality of the Sens will be noticed and we will see Janssen.
Randal Graves 04-23-2007, 01:33 PM Same as the first round.
Central Jersey Devil 04-23-2007, 01:42 PM I think that after 1 or 2 games, the physicality of the Sens will be noticed and we will see Janssen.
I'd like that
peterdubz 04-23-2007, 01:59 PM they'll start off with what they've been using in the last few games. if we need more of a physical presence, janssen of clarkson can be inserted. Also if white is ever healthy again, i think he replaces oduya on D
Spensar 04-23-2007, 02:01 PM Thanks,
For forwards the comparables are:
Elias-Gomez-Gionta vs. Heatley/Spezza/Alfie
Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner vs. Comrie/Fisher/Schaefer
Pandolfo-Madden-Brylin vs. Schubert/Kelly/Neil
Rupp-Dowd-Rasmussen vs. Saprykin/McAmmond/Vermette
Not bad matchups through 3 lines, the Sens 4th line is very, very fast and can score.
I don't expect to see 1 vs. 1 head to head if Murray has his way. Murray is pretty fluid with combos as well, so it's hard to tell what will be trotted out.
What are the Devils' defensive pairings?
DevilsSMASH 04-23-2007, 02:02 PM Yeah, if white comes back I think Oduya sits... Greene has been productive and Matvichuk has been our anchor on the blueline.
Richer's Ghost 04-23-2007, 02:02 PM Elias-Gomez-Gionta

Elias-Gomez-Gionta
Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner
Pandolfo-Madden-Brylin
Rupp-Dowd- ______
Rasmussen on the road; Cam at home
I'd also like to see Clarkson get a shot in there too during this series. :toothless:
as for matchups;
Elias-Gomez-Gionta vs. Comrie/Fisher/Schaefer
Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner vs. Schubert/Kelly/Neil
Pandolfo-Madden-Brylin vs. Heatley/Spezza/Alfie
Rupp-Dowd-Rasmussen vs. Saprykin/McAmmond/Vermette
TaiMaiShu 04-23-2007, 02:04 PM I think we should use the idea of
Pando-Madden-Clarkson
Rupp-Dowd-Brylin
as the bottom 6. We need depth more than ever and giving the 4th line more time.

It's strange, but our 4th line actually hasn't had much of a problem defensively which I think is because of their physicality. They are going to have a tough time against the Sens though.
DevilsFan38 04-23-2007, 02:14 PM I think we'll see Clarkson before we see Cam, unless the series gets really ugly.
Randal Graves 04-23-2007, 02:17 PM I think we'll see Clarkson before we see Cam, unless the series gets really ugly.
Agreed. Injuries are the only thing I see changing the lineup.
dzanimal16 04-23-2007, 03:47 PM What are the Devils' defensive pairings?
at the moment they are (with white injured):
matvichuk-martin
greene-rafalski
oduya-lukowich
but i believe when white is healthy they might be (but i could be wrong):
matvichuk-martin
white-rafalski
greene-lukowich
or
matvichuk-martin
greene-rafalski
white-lukowich
Knucklepuck 04-23-2007, 03:51 PM Lets say Cam only comes in for one or two games, does he get his name on the cup? Or is it he has to play in the Last round of the playoffs? "To have one's name engraved on the Stanley Cup certain requirements must be met. A player must have at least 41 games played with the club or one game played in the Stanley Cup Finals. However, in 1994 a stipulation was added to allow a team to petition the Commissioner for permission to have players' names put on the Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play."
Cam would qualify under the 41 games part... (he played 48) but I'd still like to see him get in the playoffs. :hit:
Classic Devil 04-23-2007, 05:54 PM Cam Janssen will not see playoff ice this season.
David Clarkson might see playoff ice this season.
Patrik Elias - Scott Gomez - Brian Gionta
Zach Parise - Travis Zajac - Jamie Langenbrunner
Jay Pandolfo - John Madden - Sergei Brylin
Mike Rupp - Jim Dowd - Eric Rasmussen
David Clarkson
Brian Rafalski - Richard Matvichuk
Paul Martin - Colin White
Andy Greene - Brad Lukowich
Johnny Oduya
Martin Brodeur
Scott Clemmensen

Only if he continues to improve as a hockey player. If he remains a one-dimensional goon, he'll be out of the league in a few years.

It would be great if he was a better defender. Putting him on the checking line with Madden and Pandolfo would make the top line forwards **** themselves.
Oh well, I guess that will only be a reality in my NHL 07 dynasty for the time being.
Richer's Ghost 04-23-2007, 07:35 PM That too. But I anticipate he'll improve. I hope he will anyway.
A friend of mine grew up playing with him in St. Louis and said he actually used to score alot of goals growing up. He just focused on the tough guy role to make it big. I predict he could bury the biscuit a time or two given regular shifts and not get so jacked up to put somebody through the boards... :fight: :pb:
frankiedue 04-23-2007, 07:37 PM We all know they are going to use the same lineup, so I will just write what I'd like to see.
1) Elias-Gomez-Gionta
2) Parise-Zajac-Clarkson
3) Pando-Madden-Langenbrunner
4) Brylin-Dowd-Rupp
-Could sub Ras for Dowd. Then Dowd will be missing from the PK2 unit, but I don't see why they can't use Elias or Langenbrunner with Brylin.
-Lou said on 1050 espn radio today that he'd like to play the 4th line a lot more in this series. Brylin would make that line more defensively responsible.
-Langenbrunner will give the checking line some more toughness, scoring potential, and ability to dig pucks out of the corner
-Clarkson will keep the sens honest when they try to run Parise. He will also clear out space in front of the net. This line showed great chemistry in the few games they played together in the regular season.
-Bottom line, ottawa is going to try to make this a very physical series. They will try to disrupt brodeur any way they can including 'accidentally' running him. We have to counter with a blend of skill, hitting, and puck possession. Guys like Rupp and Clarkson can play important roles in this series.

thats really good news i think b/c rupp, dowd, and rassy are responsible enough to play a good amount of icetime and can also maybe match the sens physicallity and kinda even out that category.
Sting 04-23-2007, 09:46 PM They will try to disrupt brodeur any way they can including 'accidentally' running him.
We're not Pittsburgh. I don't think you'll see us running any goalies...Emery has already been run 4 or 5 times.

I would love this lineup too and wouldn't be surprised to see it by the end of the series.
fluffernutter mf 04-23-2007, 10:54 PM Elias-Gomez-Gionta

Pandolfo-Madden-Rasmussen/Clarkson
Any combination or Brylin, Rupp, Dowd, Janssen and Clarkson/Rasmussen
Matvichuk-Martin/Lukowich
Greene-Rafalski
White-Lukowich/Martin
I love Oduya, but I think Lou's gonna sit him when Whitey comes back.

Jared Ramsden 04-24-2007, 01:30 AM I think we should use the idea of
Pando-Madden-Clarkson
Rupp-Dowd-Brylin
as the bottom 6. We need depth more than ever and giving the 4th line more time.
I'm thinking something like that might be a good idea too, but I have a feeling if one of Rupp or Rass were to come out of the line-up, I think Lou would take out Rupp. The Senators do roll 4 lines quite frequently and I think the Devils are going to have to bump up the ice time of their 4th line a little bit as the series progresses, and putting Clarkson in the line-up I think creates better options.
furti 04-24-2007, 05:43 AM I think we should use the idea of

I fully agree with you. I think Clarkson has more grit and can score as well giving our checking line some extra toughness and some scoring touch.
Brylin filling the spot of either Rasmussen or Rupp on the fourth line gives them extra icetime what we really do need in this matchup.
Also Ottawa was very dangerous in shorthanded situations (most sh goals in the regular season with 17 tallies) so we have to be very careful while playing on a power play.
If we can maintain this more offensive minded game in the playoffs and if Marty is gonna do his magic between the pipes than I think we have a good chance advancing to the ECF.
My predictions:
San Jose in 6, Anaheim in 6, Buffalo in 5 and Devils in 6.
JimEIV 04-24-2007, 08:41 AM We need to get 7 -10 good minutes from our 4th line from here on out.
But I still think the most important thing will be to get Matvichuk, White and Lukowich all in the line up at the Same time.
Rafalski - White
Martin - Matvichuk
Greene - Lukowich
Oduya
This would be the best Devil Defense that they have been able to ice since pre-lockout....Seems like for the last two years we always had one of White and/or Matvichuk out with injury.
A healthy White and Matvichuk in the Linup at the same time will make the Defense much more difficult to play against.

ROFL!
As for folks thinking Clarkson will see time with the Madden line, no way. The checking line only works if they don't take penalties and Clarkson has PIM issues! If he does get in the lineup it would be with the 4th line to minimize mixing all the lines. Pando-Madden-Brylin all are super at checking without taking penalties, but if you put Clarky out there, he is a high risk given his historical stats to take a penalty, especially in the playoffs when emotions run higher than normal... and the worst thing that can happen is you have the Madden line out there for 30-60 seconds and he gets a penalty and your top PK line is gassed and has to sit to catch their breath.
The only other person I'd put with them is Langenbrunner, since he's played with them before, which would open up a spot for Clarky on the 2nd line which worked briefly too, but that changes 3 lines since Brylin would have to drop down to the 4th line in that scenario. This changes 3 out of 4 lines... not the best thing as plan A when the Devs are rolling right now - maybe as a contingency if they fall behind the series or go flat on offense.
Overtime98 04-24-2007, 09:37 AM Even though we won 3 in a row and have been playing more aggressive, I would still love to see.... Janssen Rupp Clarkson line. With Clarkson used on the PP. Of course since Dowd is so good for the PK, he probably wont sit. but we shall see.

I would love to see that line too. Especially if White and Matvichuk were on D together while they were on.
Spensar 05-04-2007, 01:08 PM With the series where it is now, do you think some of the changes posted here may be seen to mix it up a bit more?
I expect nothing drastic. Odouya and maybe some tinkering with the lineup... that will be all until maybe a late 2nd or 3rd period change is forced.
fluffernutter mf 05-04-2007, 03:26 PM With the series where it is now, do you think some of the changes posted here may be seen to mix it up a bit more?
Actually, I've seen some suggestions on some other boards that have actually been done soon after they were posted, so I don't doubt that that might happen.
