WHo do you think was the best player of this series for the Devils? I gotta go with Gomer.... Martin played really well and I can't beleive how well Greene has been playing.

I would have said Parise but he didn't score the last 2 games. I know that don't tell the whole story, he still had chances.

I have to go with Matvichuk:handclap:

It is very hard to pick one in my eyes, because Parise was stellar in the first 4 games, Gomez was poor in 2 and 3, and Brodeur was bad in games 1 and 2 and 3.

Honestly, considering that Matvichuk first played in Tampa and that since then we won 3 out of 4, I d pick him. He was just the difference in shutting down Lecavalier

Devilsfanatic

Marty Brodeur

We don't win game 4 (after the 2nd period) or game 5 without his heroics, and certainly not today.

Brodeur won 3 games for us, Parise won 2. MVP of the series, Marty Brodeur.

Matvichuk. Sorry, Parise. But if they're going to have delusions and continue to
try to play like they're a defensive stopper force, you gotta give credit to the one guy that was actually *able to do that.* If not for him stepping up, blocking shots,
throwing it around and playing big minutes because it was time for the "annual Colin
White playoff injury", they'd still be getting it taken to them early and often.

So, obviously, great job by a guy who is really still in "training camp."

For the past two games though I'd say Matvichuk and Marty, Gomez too.

Parise was a stud in the first four games, and Marty was awesome in the last two, but Matty just stepped in and was absolutely huge this series.

I'll say Gomez. I got on him earlier in the series, but his goal in game 4 OT was the turning point of the series. I also thought he was the best Devils forward in the other three games they won.

Parise, Brodeur, and Matvichuk are also good choices.

Anyways, it's true it IS me. I wasn't shaved for game 1, shaved after the game, Devs lost 2 and 3 it grew back (my beard grows at a horrifying pace) and they won the next 3. So the magic thread is just bs, it's all DF's super amazing beard of glory!

Scott Gomez in my view. He may very well have changed the outcome of the series with his GWG in OT of Game 4.

Without a doubt it's one of either Parise or Matvichuk.

Without Parise's performance, this team is in the gutter after horrifying performances in Games 2 & 3. He was our offense when the EGGs were sleeping. Every shift he was skating his butt off, leading the team in hits, working hard on the boards, creating chances.... He played a complete game and played it well all series.

Matvichuk was just a a beast. Blocking shots, taking the body, making spectacular defensive plays. Not to mention his locker room presence. Without him stepping up we get smoked by a high flying Lightning offense... with him we turn the tables and frustrate the living crap out of them.

Both players deserve the recognition.

Matvichuk by far in my opinion with Parise coming in a close second.

Matvichuk is a shot blocking beast. I don't remember what his blocked shot total was for this game. But, he has been excellent for us and I'm so glad he fit in well after coming back at the end of the regular season.

He's going to help us a lot down the road.

Parise and Greene are honorable mentions.

i agree with cry_wolf....parise was just an aboslute beast in the 1st part of the series and he kept goin 105% the other part, but once matty was injected the lineup tampa was different, look at the penalty lecaviler took in the 3rd of the last game, he was just utterly frustrated with matty and it showed, plus all the blocks he had gives him the nod in my book

King Zach or Matvichuk are worth, however I am going in a different direction. A guy who averaged almost 26 minutes in ice time including over 30 minutes today. No, this guy does not play for Tampa. He is #7 Paul Martin.

And he's so understated about it, you'd never realize the amount of icetime he eats up unless you were looking for it.

Martin is the unsung hero with the way he's eating up minutes and being steady on defense.

That said, I believe Zach Parise has to be the series MVP. He has 6 goals in the series, going pointless only in Game 5 and today - but that is not to say he was invisible in the last 2 games. He's been a clinical finisher when the Devils needed on early in the series and he's been putting the TB defense to the sword when EGG or the ZL of PZL weren't getting it done. Without Parise, we're not talking about winning Game 6 - I don't even know whether NJ would have even reached Game 6.

Too hard to pick 1 person out of this series as the games were so different in tone and style - almost like a trilogy of Spielberg movies...

Game 1 - Star Wars. We first learn of our young skywalker (Parise) and get a glimpse of the dark side (St. Louis and Lecavalier). Good Guys escape and blow up the big bad machine (so they think). And our young jedi saves the day and begins his journey to becoming a jedi.

Games 2&3 - Empire Strikes Back. Vader (Tortorella) is PO'd and brings terror to the rebellion. The young Jedi discovers his powers are not enough to battle the Empire alone. Enter the jedi master (Brodeur) as key to defeating the Empire. The rebellion escapes to fight another day.

Games 4,5&6 - Return of the Jedi. Jedi Master Brodeur and Obi-Wan (Lou) teach our young hero the power of the force and the key to defeating Vader... do not give in to your anger. The rebels plan a complex attack and finally destroy the Death Star once and for all, with a little help from the Ewoks (Refs) who distract the Empire just long enough to create a diversion. Of course our 'luke' had help from some close friends including Han and Chewy (Rafalski and Matvichuk) who came through in the clutch.

So I gotta give MVP honors on both side of the coin - offense and defense.

Offense MVP - Parise

Defense MVP - Brodeur

MVP: "The System"

TOP TEN COMPONENTS:

1. Parise.

Without his early scoring frenzy we wouldn't be having this conversation. Kid was on fire... And played with utter abandon every single shift.

2. Gomez.

His OT game winner broke their backs and turned the series. Also, our points leader.

3. Matvichuk.

TB were rolling all over us, taking the physical game. Then Chukker was put into the line-up... And with all his blocked shots, he was like a second goalie, including a few diving, open net game savers. And his old veteran lockeroom speech inspired Gomer's OT game winner... A warrior. A rock. An inspiration. Awesome.

4. Martin.

THE unsung hero... Played 25-30 defensively pefect minutes a night, covering up everyone else's mistakes around him. When the series was looking bad early on, he went to Lou to ask if he could do MORE. That is Paul Martin in a nutshell.

5. Brodeur.

Although he looked like a mere mortal for the first half of the series, he shut the door when he had to... This is Marty's time of year and he showed it down the stretch.

6. Gionta.

With 5 huge goals, gave the EGG line back their big "eggs".

7. Elias.

His fiery play and timely assists proved our Captain is back in his old form.

8. Madden.

Had to do the impossible and stop the unstoppable... Figured it out after a time and just gutted us to victory. And showed some scoring spark on top.

9. Rafalski.

Long minutes, huge goals, big assists, textbook positional play. Another day at the office for our #1 D man.

10. Greene.

To everyone bemoaning our lack of a booming shot from the point, we bring you rookie Andy Greene and his 97 mile-per-hour howitzer. But perhaps the biggest surprise was his poise under pressure. Without a couple of his pokechecks it might have gone the other way.
