1. 03 Stanley Cup....I don't know why, but I cried like a little baby that time..:)

2. Arnott's game winner...after that I was in shock, I just didn't know what had just happened.

3. The comeback against the Flyers. I still remember the series and the whole 7:th game like it was yesterday! That was really sweet, and especially because of the way it happened after Larry's tirade and all.

I love the Arnott one, but I love the game 7 against Philly even more, 2 minutes left, in the opposing teams barn, you've just erased a 3-1 series lead against a rival team, and you score the game winner to go to the friggen Stanley Cup Finals and hear 18,000 fans and 22 players hearts break.

I especially love the 2003 Stanley Cup Game 7. You couldn't hide the fact that the Ducks were the media darlings, so the Devils go out and shutdown Anaheim with THE MIGHTY MIKE RUPP clinching the Cup with 2 goals. (I think it was 2 by Rupp).

I actually think J-Freeze had 2 goals, Rupp had 1 goal 1 helper. Just taking away that cup from Oates and Steve Thomas was great.......because if I had to see another puke fest like ****ing Ray Bourque getting the cup in 2001, I would seriously blow a gasket.

Any of the three Stanley Cup clinchers are certainly more important, but my favorite moment is the Devils making the playoffs for the first time in New Jersey. As the regular season moved towards its conclusion, the surging Devils, behind the outstanding goaltending of rookie Sean Burke, insinuated themselves in the race for the final Patrick Division playoff spot with the Rangers and Penguins. The green Devils would upset the Islanders and Capitals to capture the Patrick Division Playoff Championship and take the Bruins to Game 7 of the Wales Conference Finals before the season came to an end.

At any rate, it was magical for me as a kid watching the game on Sports Channel. The thought of the playoffs had not ever crossed my mind until about a week before the season ended. I watched this game hoping for something new to me as a Devils fan, a chance to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and only a win would do. Besides the big ones that we've all mentioned. Here's a few that still stick out:

1. Marty scoring in '97
2. Patrick Sundstrom's 8 pts. against Washington
3. Marty/Hasek not allowing anything for more than two hours. Even though that one didn't end well, still sticks out in my mind.

There are so many memories. Many of the early ones, while not as significant historically, are amazing as well.

The run in 1988 was so unexpected. I am gonna sound old here, but, you young'uns have no idea how much that meant to us back then. The Cups and everything since 1995 are great, and every run is special, but that spring, New Jersey had Devils fever, and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get tickets to any playoff game. In fact, the capacity of the arena became 19,096 due to the inclusion of 56 SRO "Seats" which are now illegal for fire code reasons.

Here are my faves from that year:

1. Winning playoff games in 2 places where we NEVER (and I mean NEVER) won. The Mausoleum (Bob Sauve, thank you) and the Cap Centre. In fact, they won either Game 1 or 2 and it was the first win we ever had in that arena. EVER.

2. The save by Sauve in Buffalo against Larry Playfair? to secure a tie, that if we had not gotten, would not have made the playoffs.

3. Patrik Sundstrom scoring 8 points in a 10-4 Devil whipping of the Caps. That series still holds the record for most PIMs by both teams in a playoff series.

4. Playing the Boston Bruins in the playoffs. It's no big deal now, but holy moly, back then the thought of the baby Devils are playing the Big Bad Bruins in the playoffs, to see who gets to play Gretzky in the Finals was and still is mind-blowing to me.

5. Sean Burke' save on Pat LaFontaine in the closing seconds of game 6 vs. NYI

6. Dougie Brown's OT winner in game 2 vs. Boston. Our first OT win ever.

Those are a few of my favorites, a bit off the radar, but special none the less.

Wow, interesting memories we have here. I feel so stupid for becomig a fan around 2000. I really missed out on a lot it seems from the past. :( I'll list what I remember anyway...

1. 2003 playoffs and Cup (Friesen and Arnott's goal are my favs)
2. Stevens Night (Was an amazing night being at the arena, emotions were high as anything I've ever felt for the team, I don't think I can put into words what I felt about that night)

I know its not much, but I hope that following the team now gives me something more to remember with the new era we are entering.

Hmmm, probably my first. Late 80's game against the mighty Whalers. We had pretty good seats near the ice and (I think) Pat Verbeek got his head busted open.
Blood everywhere and they had to bring out the shovel. They lost that game 3-2.

I just find it amusing that I still have a decent memory of the actual event. Should have been 9 or 10 depending on the year this actually happened in.

Alot of my favorites involve fans and most can't be mentioned here. There was an all time classic in the '00 Flyers series, involving an old man taking his cane to a bunch of kids, but again, moderated, can't explain it in detail. And the kid of an apparent Maple Leafs employee, who said some things to me, after the Leafs won Game 4 in that same playoff, that I still can't believe a 12 year old or so said.

The champ, though, is the Montreal fan who said he'd take off his pants if the Habs
gave up another goal in Game 5. They did. And he lived up to his end of the bargain until security removed him.

*The Steve Sullivan goal* was also something to behold. They finally replayed it during the season recaps this year.

Cheers to that... the A-Line was just poetry in motion... I was so sad when they were broken up. I think that will stand as the most potent Devils line for the ages.

Personal favorite moment isn't the cup wins really - it was seeing a spectacular goal by my man Stephane Richer in the playoffs in 1994:

May 7, 1994 - At 14:19 of overtime, Game 4 ends of the Eastern Conference Semfinals ends with a 5-4 Devils victory over the Bruins.

That goal was so un-devils, as Richer lined up at the left D position with the faceoff at the right faceoff dot just outside the defensive zone due to an offsides. While the linesman is getting ready to drop the puck, Richer skates back toward the net, gets up speed and starts breaks up toward the blue line as the puck is dropped. I don't recall specifically who took the faceoff, but I think it was Carpenter, and he won it straight back to the right D who then shoots it up off the far left boards on a bank-pass for richer to pick up mid-stride and he blows past the Bruins defense and roofs it top shelf to end the game.

He also scored a HUGE OT winner vs. the Rangerettes that year too - but we all know how that ended (see Least Favorite Moment thread for details on that series AND the NHL's bias for Ray Bourque in 2001 finals).:p:

There are way too many to pick one.
But here are some of the better ones.

1. Johnny Mac's OT goal in Chicago in '88 to get our first playoff birth
2. The '95 Cup run
3. The 2000 Cup run, Arnott's goal, Patrik's goal in Game-7 in Philly
4. The 2003 run, Game-7 in Ottawa
5. Sweeping and humiliating the Rangers in 2006
6. Marty's goal in '97 vs Montreal
7. The Buffalo series in '94
8. The '88 playoff run, beating the heavily favored Icelanders and Caps
9. Beating Edmonton on home ice, I think in '85 after Gretzky clowned himself and called us a Mickey Mouse team
10. The 3 Cup celebrations at CAA, which are MUCH better than a lame parade
11. Scotty Stevens' big hits

Much more, but those are the first that came to mind

1. MacLean's goal to get NJ into the playoffs for the first time.
