devsfan8 04-21-2007, 09:53 PM I thought it would be cool to start up this thread. Each game my buddies at the arena always discuss who the best player on the ice was for the Devils at the end of the night.
I think it was Matvichuk and Gomez was a close 2nd for Game 5.
It is cool to see how many people feel the same player is the best on a respective night. Their so called first star.
Sometimes a player is so dominant it is unanumous and other nights everybody sees something from different players that make them think they made the biggest impact or contribution.
Parise has been all over the ice and has been our best player thus far.
But after each game we should all discuss who we each felt is the best player on the ice for the Devils.
Richer's Ghost 04-21-2007, 11:16 PM Game 5 - Best Player was Marty ;)
Game 4 - Parise (Gomez might have scored the GWG, but he stunk it up until then)
bense27 04-21-2007, 11:18 PM For game 5, Matvichuk and Marty. We have all been expecting Marty to play like that but Matvichuk I think surprised some of us a little bit. He played great.
Malouds 04-21-2007, 11:58 PM Obviously Marty was one if them, but Matvichuk is another. Matvichuk was awesome in this series, especially gm 5. Richard Matvuchuk is gonna be a key to our playoff run, due to his experience and skill.

I completely agree.
devsfan8 04-28-2007, 12:31 PM Game 1 the worst player BY FAR on the ice was Brian Rafalski.
The best was Gomez, Gionta and Greene.
JerryGigantic 04-28-2007, 04:30 PM Game One --
Best, Greene.
Worst, Rasmussen, whose boneheaded penalty cost us the game, and his lackofskill corrupted the EGG line minus Elias. Should have been Clarkson up there.
devsfan8 04-29-2007, 10:12 AM Game 2 Was all Marty Brodeur who baled us out with save after save. He was the man for us and we might have lost that game 6-2 if not for him. That play at the end where he fanned on the puck and did not get it out of the zone was just bad luck. He was insanely good tonight.
Travis Zajac once again played with tremendous heart and I will tell you at the end of the first when he won a face off and we shot the puck on Emery who held the puck and then Zajac won another face and we shot it on Emery who held the puck and then He WON ANOTHER FACE OFF yet again that ended up resulting in Brylin scoring with 2 tenths of a second left was the reason why we had the lead until the end of the game. Zajac has been spectacular.
Matvichuk continues to block shots and make hits and stand in front of the crease where he belongs. He is a stud defenseman who is very underrated and has been our best defense man through the 1st round and 2 games of the 2nd round.
Lou's Koolaid 04-29-2007, 09:18 PM I like this thread.;) Game 2 the Marty show.
Lou's Koolaid 04-30-2007, 08:49 PM Im going in and out here at work who's the best so far? So far by the looks of things score wise Im guessing Marty.
Sting 04-30-2007, 09:42 PM Eh, I guess Marty for Game 3. But Alfredsson, despite only getting an assist, was outstanding once again. Best 'player' on the ice, but Brodeur is the only reason it wasn't 4-0 or something tonight.
Buya89 04-30-2007, 09:59 PM Zajac!:handclap: Brodeur! Gomer
Colin Whites Eye 04-30-2007, 10:20 PM Broduer was by FAR our best player tonight
anyone who thinks otherwise just didnt watch the game
Jared Ramsden 04-30-2007, 11:06 PM No question Marty gets that nod tonight....Gomez' effort and energy give up the runner up.....
bense27 04-30-2007, 11:09 PM Marty. and at least Gomer is trying. He was a little selfish tonight and his line just didn't seem to be clicking.

It's tough for Gomez because I think his confidence is sky right now. You can tell just by the way he's handling the puck and flying up the ice. Gionta had been on a good tear, but he looked fairly pedestrian tonight and Elias doesn't have a whole lot of confidence at the moment. They actually seem to have a tough time keeping up with him right now, but you can't tell Gomer to slow down so those two can keep up! They need to pick it up, especially Elias.
ATrain24 04-30-2007, 11:32 PM I must say Brodeur had a good game, gomez was flying in but needs to dump or pass more. For the sens anton volchenkov great game, I have to also say alfredsson.
Great game to watch.
cheers...brodeur was on fire tonight!!!!
Heatley4Hart* 04-30-2007, 11:33 PM I agree, Gomez is a great player. Once he starts dashing with the puck it's tough to stop the little guy. I fear him on the rush more than any other Jersey forward including Elias but Phillips & Volchenkov are playing him a lot better after game 1 now these last 2 games by giving him the outside gap and eliminating the passes and him cutting to the center/slot. I think the a great deal of Jersey creativity and offence revolves around him and after these playoffs I think he is easily worth whatever he is asking of Jersey as a UFA to be. In another system, I could definitly see this guy get 70 assists 90 pts a year.

That's a great observation and it's dead on. Scary thing is Gomez almost snuck through a couple times despite the clogging up of the middle. Right now, the offense does revolve around Gomez. I think everyone on the ice knows that on both sides though, so with all the attention he's been attracting, someone else on that line (Elias) needs to make something happening. Gionta was a little off tonight, but you can't fault him for his contributions in the playoffs thus far.
Rochester22 05-01-2007, 12:33 AM What about Parise?
He basically had all our scoring chances tonight.
Maybe we should have Gomez and Parise together. Just a thought
Parise - Gomez - Gionta
With Gomer and Zach I'm sure they will find ways to create alot of chances.

That would be a great line, but Zajac really plays well with Parise. Not saying either can't play well without each other, but they play best together. Parise improved a lot from his rookie season, and I think his playing with Zajac and Langenbrunner contributed to that a lot. That line has the most chemistry, IMO.
Malouds 05-01-2007, 04:14 PM Brodeur for last night. Can anyone tell me where our captain is?
fluffernutter mf 05-01-2007, 04:44 PM Brodeur for last night. Can anyone tell me where our captain is?
Figure skating.
He was there, but unfortunately the rest of the team was still in our zone while he was alone in the Sens' zone, with all 6 of them.
devsfan8 05-01-2007, 06:23 PM Brodeur had another great game standing on his head. After him,
ONLY Greene and Martin were both tremendous. NOBODY ELSE.
The only two players who attempted to generate any semblance of an offense tonight was Gomez and Elias. Emery made saves but they were not quality saves.
Game 3 Best Players on the ice:
1) Martin Brodeur
2) Andy Greene
3) Paul Martin
The Worst Players on the Ice:
The Devils offense

True about Emery. But the PZL line -mostly Parise- were trying to get something started, but by the time that happened, there was a line change or someone was off sides or something.
Glad to see someone give Martin credit. He played great last night, as he does a lot of the time, but some people never give him any credit. Greene goes without saying. He's been awesome since he got called up. I don't think he's ever given up the puck or hasn't done what ever he can to prevent a goal. I can see him on the roster all of next season.

That was a great play Martin made on that partial break-away from Heatley. To be able to knock the puck off his stick AND not take a penalty on the play was impressive. And I will gladly add to the Greene kudos. I know I've said it before, but he's so poised out there and looks like he's a seasoned pro.
