People of New Jersey/New York, you are blessed with the culinary gift to humanity known as "Italian-Americans." I find that kind of funny. Because Italians can obviously make pasta. Guess where thats from originally? Just because someone from another country adopts the recipe for something doesn't automatically make them unable to follow it. I remember I used to go to this Italian pizza place owned by an Italian with really good pizza, I caught a peek of the guy making pizzas in the back and he was definately not italian. You can't judge a book by its cover. Jamie1 04-21-2007, 03:03 AM Alaska. I can't think of any good sub shops I don't usually go to them. I did like Blimpies when they were here. The Mexican food is pretty decent. One of the best is out of a motorhome they have good burritos which they deep fry and you can get cheese stuffed inside it also. they slice the burrito longways and stuff cheese in it. Their tacos are also good. They are expensive though as burritos are I think 2.25 and 2.50 with cheese. I think tacos are 2.00. But they are good and worth it. though they had to move because the people who owned the land had to put up yet another hotel up and it's a terrible place for a hotel. They are in a bit of a harder to get to location. The other mexican place I like is hit or miss. They also have good chips and salsa which is supposedly made fresh every day. They are cutting back though as a bunch of stuff they used to have that was good they took off. Like Zuccini and they had this awesome cheese sauce that they took off and replaced with sour cream or some crap it's nasty. They over expanded also because there used to be 3 restaurants in Anchorage but one closed. They also expanded to Japan for some reason and Hawaii. Burgers you got the usual Red Robin is allright but the local place kills it. It's called Arctic Road Runner they have good burgers. Seafood I honestly can't think of a good local place that isn't expensive. If you drive about 5 hours down south there are a bunch of good places though. Pizza there are a few places my favorite is champion pizza which is good 99% of the things I've had there have been awesome http://www.championpizza.net/. The other place I heard is good is Mooses tooth. I've never been there but it's supposed to be good. There are a few other places I haven't been to like the Peanut Farm which is supposed to be good. They also expanded and have tv's everywhere. Gwennies is another place I haven't been to in a long time since probably the mid eighties. Everything here is hit or miss though or atleast most places. We are going to be a pretty decent place for japanese/chinese food here in a few years. Too bad I don't like that kind of food. the quality of mexican food should go up also. There are a few places that do some things good and other things badly. If you could mash all the mexican restaurants together we probably would have one of the best. Italian I haven't had good Italian good everywhere I've been it's tasted the same and it's been good but nothing to note. This is a bit longer that I thought but I'm kind of hungry. MissionHockey 04-21-2007, 03:36 AM Tastee Sub Shop 2 is AMAZING. Man, I haven't been there in awhile, since we moved from South Brunswick it's a little far away. Damn, I miss Jersey food. The stuff here in VA just doesn't compare. The last comment reminded me of the food from the Jersey shore. Whether its the fries or fried oreos or any other extremely unhealthy innovation, they are truly one of a kind. No place even compares. Tao Jones 04-21-2007, 04:05 AM Born in Camden, raised in West Trenton/Ewing when the College of New Jersey was still Trenton State College, living in Tucson, AZ. Late to this thread and I know there's a food thread now Miss the pizza and the Italian bread and rolls. The water mineral content is different west of the Mississippi River and the dough is not the same. The best roast beef sub sandwiches I ever had were from Kelvy's Submarine Shop at 1305 Nottingham Way, when I worked for USG in '86. I'm mostly vegetarian these days. Easton 04-21-2007, 12:34 PM I find that kind of funny. Because Italians can obviously make pasta. Guess where thats from originally? China. I know how you guys feel when you walk into a place and the people there aren't of the same origin as the cuisine, but there are tons of places that would surprise you. The majority of New York pizza places are run by a bunch of Mexicans who have got the **** down. My friend worked at a top Japanese restaurant in the Wall Street area and the chefs there were Mexican. Will Smith and the Olsen twins couldn't even tell the difference. csdevs 04-21-2007, 02:03 PM Elmwood Park, NJ fullmetal2405 04-21-2007, 02:34 PM Edison, NJ. kill me. JRZ DVLS 04-26-2007, 04:33 PM There are no real delis in Chicago, just overpriced "sandwich" places that are terrible. Don't even get me started on the pizza. If you can find regular non-deep dish pizza they cut it into a grid! Not even slices! What is that about? Crash, I have been out in Aurora Il for about a 1 1/2 years. I have vowed my time out here to find a good slice. I have indeed found a few New York/Jersey slices. Some of the Oasis' have a joint called La Famiglia. I know the DesPlaines does, possibly O'Hare and its pretty good. Next place was what used to be a Sbarro, now it is an Umbertos in the Fox Valley Mall (only the Plain cheese slices though, but thats all i want) This is the best i found. Rosati's Double Dough is marginal, as is Amados. I haven't eaten at the same place more than once but i just found the Umberto's so i will now. These are out in the West Suburbs though. You have to tell them ahead of time to cut them in Traditional Slices. I dont understand the Squares either! If you or anyone in the Chicago area finds any other good pizza let me know PLEASE!!!! i eat a pie myself when i ivisit my folks in Jersey Second the Motion on the Subs. Subway/Quizno's doesnt cut it. Same for Bagels. I need to find a good Jewish Deli. JRZ DVLS 04-26-2007, 04:35 PM The last comment reminded me of the food from the Jersey shore. AWWWWW YEEEAAAHHH zarathustra1900 04-26-2007, 06:08 PM Alaska. They are in a bit of a harder to get to location............ ............the other mexican place I like is hit or miss. This is a bit longer that I thought but I'm kind of hungry. Haha, funny. I have just returned from the States to visit family after 4yrs (brother with new child...crazy.
